EPISODE 13
Darkness was beginning to steal across the sky by the time Ledi Pedi entered Sinai Hills again.
He and Oforiwaa had stopped briefly at a restaurant to eat, and then they had continued their journey. Oforiwaa had wanted to check into a hotel and take a bath, because she seriously needed one, but Ledi had refused, telling her that time was of the very essence, fearing that Lusty might decide to mortally hurt or even kill one of her victims.
And so, as the shadows stole across the sky, he cruised slowly into the yard of old Pastor Narh once more, and then he parked the car.
“What now, Mr. Ledi?” Oforiwaa asked, and she sounded scared indeed.
Ledi sighed deeply again, and just as he began to speak, twin headlights shone into his car as Pastor Narh drove in behind him.
He had been at the hotel, and when Ledi called that he was coming, the old man had agreed to meet him on the premises.
He parked the car Nana Kwadwo had told him to drive beside Ledi’s car, and then he got out. His old face looked even more haggard, and there was a growth of grey stubble on his chin.
Ledi got out too, and Oforiwaa quickly scampered out.
“No host?” Pastor Narh asked gravely, and Ledi shook his head.
“But Yaw Boat wants to ask Oforiwaa who the host could be,” Ledi said slowly.
“Yaw Boat?” Pastor Narh asked, surprised. “He’s here too?”
“No, no, Father,” Ledi said miserably. “He wants me to call him – on video – so that he will speak to Ewura Ekua and try to locate the host for me.”
“Oh, how could that even remotely be possible?” Pastor Narh asked with sudden concern. “Hasn’t the demon submerged Ewura Ekua? Is that not what you said? How could he even manage to speak to Ewura Ekua when the demon has taken over her? And is he not supposed to be present physically to deal with such things?”
“I told him, Father, but he wouldn’t listen,” Ledi said, his voice cold. “Since there’s no way we can now reasonably pinpoint the host, we have no option than to try his suggestion.”
“This is preposterous!” Pastor Narh cried. “Anyway, if he really thinks it is possible, by all means try it. Maybe, if he fails, he might come down himself.”
Ledi took out his phone, hesitated a moment, and then he went to the boot of his car, opened it, and dragged a small bag toward him. He rummaged inside and eventually brought out a larger screen iPad, which he powered on immediately.
He went to the front of the car as he was inputting Yaw Boat’s number, and then touching the ‘call’ icon. The video call screen came on, and a moment later it was picked up, and Boat’s extremely handsome face filled the screen.
He was wearing a black T-shirt, and appeared to be sitting behind a laptop, with his earphones in his ears. Behind him were shelves of books.
As Ledi stopped in front of the car, Pastor Narh and Oforiwaa peered on the screen of the iPad.
“Oooop!” Oforiwaa said before she could control herself. “He’s very handsome!”
“Tell me something I don’t know!” Ledi said calmly. “Hello, Yaw.”
“Ledi,” Boat said, his expression serious. “Get me to the room.”
“I don’t know how you planning to do this, man,” Ledi said, and he sounded concerned. “I can’t get within her zone, okay? She affects me, makes me lose focus and floods me with desire. So what do I do? Slide the phone through a window? Ewura Akua, I’m sure, would now be in the living-room!”
“You worry too much, Ledi,” Yaw Boat said calmly. “Let’s get into the room. Walk in.”
“Did you hear what I said?” Ledi retorted.
“I heard you, Ledi,” Yaw Boat said. “She’s not coming near you, trust me.”
Pastor Narh put a gentle hand on Ledi’s shoulder.
“It’s okay, son,” he said gently. “Go.”
Ledi moved slowly toward the house, and already he was praying, reciting Psalms instinctively. He could feel the pull of the demon now, and smell the stench!
The aura of Lusty had increased, and become palpable somewhat!
He now held the iPad outward, so that its screen was facing the door, and Yaw Boat could see where they were headed.
Ledi Pedi was beginning to get short breath, and sweat broke out on his face. He could feel the sexual assault rolling out in droves, but somehow he derived strength from the fact that he was now basically not alone.
He reached the door, held the handle, opened it, and went inside.
Reaching out to his right, he switched on the lights and kicked the door shut.
Ledi gasped and almost dropped the phone at what he saw!
Nana Kwadwo and Ewura Akua were both pressed cruelly into the wall way up near the ceiling! Their bodies were twisted at such terrible angles that he knew they were in a lot of pain, and compassion flooded his heart!
The demon was enveloping Ewura Akua, shining so completely that for a moment it was hard discerning the naked body of Ewura Akua.
Ledi Pedi was trembling visibly now. He had never seen a more vindictive demon than Lusty.
The demon laughed lustfully as she gazed at him.
“Ah, Ledi, back for a fu*k, aren’t you?” it crooned sexily, the tone underlying its voice, mean and hard. “Yes, my love! I’m all wet and ready for you…come and -”
“Shut up, you worker of iniquity!” Yaw Boat said calmly, and his voice was miraculously loud, amplified and harsh, filling the whole of the room!
Ledi knew that this was not from the speakers of the iPad! Now it was as if Yaw Boat was present in the room because his voice was so much alive and power-laden!
Lusty flinched suddenly, and her eyes now came to rest on the screen of the iPad, and for the first time she saw Yaw Boat. A maniacal scream emitted from the lips of the demon in a deadly blast of fury.
“You have no control over my actions, you puny…”
“I have every control over every demon, as given by me by the resurrection power of Christ!” Yaw Boat said calmly. “You’re damn lucky that you’re only casting a shadow in this room, you vile demon! If you had been here, I would have cut you up to pieces!”
Once again, the demon screeched maniacally, and it twisted the bodies of Nana Kwadwo and Ewura Akua cruelly.
“I’ll kill them this instant if you don’t get out of this room!” she cried.
“You have no dominion over a righteous soul, demon!” Yaw Boat said softly. “Release the man.”
“No!” Lusty screeched. “No, no, no, no! Not now, not ever! They are-”
“You have no dominion over him, because he is a chosen lamb of the Most High God…I command you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ…release the man now!”
Boat’s voice was a whiplash, filled with fury, and no sooner had his words come out than Nana Kwadwo fell from the wall and landed into the seat. He rolled to the floor, and then he stood up groggily, looking around him with fear.
“Mr. Ledi!” Nana Kwadwo whispered painfully, coming toward Ledi.
“Sit down!” Yaw Boat said, and Nana Kwadwo’s eyes were drawn to the screen of the phone for the first time.
“What is…” Nana Kwadwo began.
“Sit down, Nana!” Ledi said sharply. “Now!”
He knew that the battlefield was deadly now.
Yaw Boat had just imposed his will on the demon, but he knew a slight shift in focus, a slight miscalculation would let the demon reign supreme again with very disastrous consequences.
Boat needed all the advantage and all the concentration now.
“Bring the woman down!” Yaw Boat commanded. “Now!”
“Nay, nay, nay, nay!” the demon shouted, and now it wasn’t in the voice of Ewura Akua anymore. “She is a slut of bondage to me! Thou canst maketh me abandon her vessel!”
It had become a combination of voices, many voices speaking at the same time! It had lost its glowing luster now, and all shreds of its beauty were gone!
The demon around Ewura Akua was now looking like a dirty cream creature! Its hair was lank and peeling, its skull somewhat rotten!
Its face was now gnarled and devoid of the illusion of beauty!
The demon’s tongue was a purplish horror with many disgusting growths on it, and its nose was long and beaked.
Its fingers were extremely long and gnarled, and it had three protruding eyes that looked a sickly yellow.
This was the real reflection of Lusty!
And her language had even reverted to that of the ancient.
“She has a strong bond over the girl, Ledi,” Yaw Boat said slowly. “I can’t release her, becuause the demon is casting a shadow. You can only release her from this bondage by finding the host!”
“That’s why we’re here, isn’t it, Yaw?” Ledi asked unsteadily. “To find the host?”
“Yeah, yeah, just a minute!” Yaw Boat said thoughtfully. “I wanted to ask the demon, but it is too strong without its host. I think I have to speak to Ewura Akua somehow!”
Lusty stared belligerently and wickedly from the wall at the screen of the phone, hissing dangerously, seeking to devour.
“I will speak to the woman,” Yaw Boat said calmly.
“Nay, nay, nay, nay!” the demon screeched. “Slut she art! Mine she art!”
“Keep quiet, demon!” Yaw Boat shouted, his voice fierce, miraculously amplified inside the room, making Lusty jerk her head with sudden apprehension. “You can have her body, but because Christ lives in me, you cannot stop me from speaking to her!”
The demon growled and hissed dangerously, and its fingers curled and uncurled, but there was a shifty gaze in its eyes, a kind of desperate glint that Ledi recognized: it was now getting scared of Yaw Boat!
“Come out, Ewura Akua!” Yaw Boat continued. “I want to speak to you now, and no demon can stop me or thwart the rightful ways of the Lord! And by the power of Jesus Christ in me I command Ewura Akua to speak to me, and bind the tongue of the demon!”
Lusty screamed then, fiercely and violently!
A bizarre wind began to blow, strong and so powerful that it lifted chairs, television, books, tables and everything in the living-room into the air! The window panes smashed outward, depositing glass fragments everywhere!
Nana Kwadwo was lifted up, and swirled round the room, his screams lost in the terrible din of Lusty!
Ledi felt himself being lifted slightly off the floor.
He was gripped with a powerful sense of helplessness, and as his faith dwindled, Yaw Boat’s voice came out, firm and furious.
“Stop that this instant, demon, and I command you with the power of Christ!”
And immediately the screaming stopped, and the wind stopped blowing, and everything – chairs, books, papers, television, speakers, tables and Nana Kwadwo – came crashing back down.
There was absolute silence.
“You will not dare to speak again, you filthy demon!” Yaw Boat said fiercely. “Ewura Akua, come out now, and let me speak to you! Now, I command, in the name of Jesus Christ!”
The silence was thick, super thick, but Ledi saw that although Lusty was still firmly around the body of Ewura Akua, the demon had become transparent and less dense.
The naked body of Ewura Akua was still pressed against the wall cruelly, but her face was turned toward them.
“Oh, Nana, Nana, Nana, my love!” came her own voice, broken and shattered, filled with indescribable pain.
“Akua, my darling, my love!” Nana Kwadwo cried and got up from the floor, stretching out his hands to her. “Do something! Please, help us, Mr. Ledi, and…”
“Shut up!” Ledi shouted at him, and he stopped, afraid.
“Ewura Akua!” Yaw Boat said calmly. “You have been possessed by a demon, who seem to have total dominion over you because you’re a sinner, and it seems you’ve bonded with this demon on a severe level. We want to help you, but you must help us!”
Ewura Akua began to weep pathetically, her sobs coming in great gasps.
“Stop it, now!” Yaw Boat said sharply. “The tears are unnecessary now! There’s no time to lose! Because the demon has complete dominion over you, and it is not here but inside a host somewhere, and because it has a sort of evil bond with you, it can kill you any second! Do you understand?”
Ewura Akua, heartbroken, sniffed pitifully.
“Yes, yes, please sir, yes!” she said in a small lost voice.
“So who is it, Ewura Akua?” Yaw Boat queried. “Who is the host? It is not Akwasi Manso, and it must be somebody you’ve had a form of sexual intimacy with! Some man that had a pact with you! A man that didn’t want you to get married to Nana Kwadwo! Who is he?”
Ewura Akua began to sob uncontrollably now.
“Stop it!” Yaw Boat said, exasperated. “A name, Ewura Akua! Give us a name so that we can help you!”
“Oh, Nana Kwadwo will hate me, he will hate me!” she wept bitterly.
“No, no, no, my love!” Nana Kwadwo said in anguish. “I love you! I’ll always love you…please, my love…”
“Hey, cut the crap!” Yaw Boat cut in angrily. “Ewura Akua, seems to me you don’t want to be helped, so I’m cutting this connection! You can go on and suffer!”
“No, no, no, please, don’t go, please, help me!” she wept bitterly.
“Who is it, Akua, please, please tell me!” Nana Kwadwo cried. “I won’t be angry, I promise! I just want us to be free to spend out lives together, my love. Please, give us a name so that these men of God can help us! Who is it? Is it your father?”
“No, no!” Ewura Akua whispered tremulously. “Forgive me, Nana. You see, when I was fifteen years old, I spent a vacation with Akwasi Manso and his parents at their cabin. He was then seventeen years old. Two weeks after the vacation, he left with his father to Accra for a week, to visit his grandparents. I was left alone with Mrs. Kwakyewa Manso.”
And then it hit Ledi Pedi with the force of a mule’s kick.
Mrs. Kwakyewa Manso, Akwasi Manso’s mother!
“She introduced you to lesbianism, didn’t she?” Yaw Boat asked quietly.
Ewura Akua was crying pitifully now, her tears dripping on a paper on the floor and going placata, placata, placata!
“Yes!” she said, her voice broken. “She took my virginity with her fingers and tongue! At first, I resisted her, but soon I found it exciting! She continued to do it even after we left the cabin. She was my partner! I was really into it! She made me promise to marry her son, Akwasi, so that even after my marriage she would be close, and we would continue our lesbian relationship!”
“And then you met Nana Kwadwo, a Christian,” Boat stated.
“Yes, yes, and I couldn’t marry Akwasi anymore!” Ewura Akua cried pitifully. “I broke off my relationship with Mrs. Kwakyewa Manso, and refused to go near her! She was furious, and threatened that I’lll never be able to consummate my marriage! She said she would destroy me! I thought there was nothing she could do…Oh, Nana, Nana! I’m so sorry! You must hate me now!”
“It’s alright, my love!” Nana Kwadwo said in anguish. “I will always love you, till eternity!”
