The storm stopped immediately Temi went through the golden door with the blazing fire, and the turbulent rainwater just disappeared!
Neji Helen stared at the wet floor and the little drizzle of rain, and her heart broke. Shivering, in great pain, she clutched her breasts and dropped slowly to her knees, grief shattering her very soul.
Her Temi was gone!
She heard a whispering sound behind her, and when she looked behind her with trepidation she saw her nightgown sailing through the air toward her with the spirit of Jhon Moziz behind it, and when she got quickly to her feet the dress slipped gently over her head and down her body.
Gratefully, she pushed her arms through the spaces and the dress covered her nakedness. The spirit of Jhon Moziz began to move slowly away from the door, and Neji Helen stared at the apparition with a mixture of frustration and bitterness.
“You’re also leaving, aren’t you?” she asked bitterly.
“Alas, Maiden of the Earth, my duties here are done,” he said gravely. “I must go and guide my prince toward his cause. For all what it’s worth, know that I’m indeed sorry for your pain.”

“Are you really, Mr. Jhon Moziz, are you really?” she asked bitterly. “Tell me, sincerely, is it true that if Temi had made love to me, he wouldn’t have been able to go through the portal?”
There was silence from within the dark shroud of the cape, and Neji Helen experienced a numbing sensation all over her body, and goose pimples stood out on her arms as she stared at that hoodie-shrouded apparition with mounting fury and hatred.
“Oh!” she said painfully, almost in a whisper. “You lied! You just didn’t want him to make love to me! Oh, you horrible, horrible man!”
“Judge me not, Earthling!” he said, his tone almost defensive. “Aye, I didn’t want the prince to copulate with you, for a truth! But believe me, I did it not with malice, but with foresight!”
“Oh, you most horrible man!” Neji Helen wept bitterly. “You don’t know what love is! I don’t believe you’ve ever truly loved any woman!”
“Atweaapuu!” Jhon Moziz said, aghast. “That madness you people call love should forever pass over my head!”
“You had no right stopping us!” Neji Helen screamed. “I love him, do you hear, and he loves me! He’ll come back for me, Mr. Jhon Moziz! Do you hear me? You can’t keep us apart!”
“Don’t be filled with bitter gall, Earthly Maiden!” Jhon Moziz said sharply. “If you noticed, I didn’t summon a double portal. What I summoned was a single portal!”
Neji Helen felt the air whooshing out of her lungs, and for a moment she could not breathe as deep fear assailed her.
“And what do you mean by that?” she asked painfully.
“Just what it means, Maiden of the Earth!” Jhon Moziz said. “It means he cannot come back here again, because the single portal will not allow him to retain any memories of this place, and of you. The moment he went through that portal, he forgot all about you. You no longer exist in his mind anymore!”
“No, oh no!” Neji Helen said painfully, bitterly, and her heart seemed to stop beating. “You’re a horrible man! I wish you only the worst of pains! Oh, Jhon Moziz, I do hate you most fiercely! You’re a very evil man!”
“Stop being sentimental and waxing on the foolish!” Jhon Moziz said sharply. “The ways of the Dayo prince aren’t the ways of this puny world! He is needed at the top echelons of decision-making! His destiny is to save this world for people like you! And he needs no distractions! That is what you must understand! You must live with the memories of him because he is not coming back! He will not remember you, Maiden of the Earth!”
“He’ll come back, you wicked mean old man!” Neji Helen screamed, weeping bitterly. “You can take me out of his mind, but you can’t take me out of his heart! His heart will speak to him! Every night I will wish for him, I will love him, I’ll cry to him, and my spirit will find him and speak to his heart wherever he is, and he’ll definitely come back for me!”
“What ails you, woman?” Jhon Moziz shouted, and for once he sounded angry. “His brief presence here with you will make your family rich forever because you took care of him, and he loved you! You will never have that appalling disease of the skin again! You will know the happiness of riches, and the prince of this town will marry you, and you will give birth! What else do you want?”
“I don’t want to be well, or rich, or marry the prince of this town and give birth, you silly wicked man!” Neji Helen screamed at him. “You can’t control our fates! You can’t make choices for me! I love Temi, and he loves me! It is him, only him, I want! And he wants only me! And I’m going to make my spirit strong and bring him back!”
The spirit of Jhon Moziz stopped moving suddenly, and then in a rush, he floated toward her, blowing a furious air at her face. Neji suddenly felt something in her mind, a sudden tingling kind of movement which came with a little pain.
“Stop it!” Neji Helen screamed. “Whatever you’re doing stop it this instant, Jhon Moziz!”
The tingling continued for a while, and then it stopped suddenly, and then she heard Jhon Moziz’s voice from afar. It was soft, and it was unsteady, and it was filled with fear.
“Goodness me, I looked into your future and saw that you indeed did bring him back by the power of your spirit calling out to him from the void!” he said fearfully. “I just read your memories…no, no, that cannot be allowed to happen! No, that is unacceptable! You leave me with no choice, Earthling Maiden…I must not leave you with any memories of the Prince of Dayo otherwise you will bring him back from his destiny! He doesn’t need the distractions of love! He needs to focus! No, you too must lose any memories of him! It is the only option now!”
Neji Helen took frantic steps away from the spirit of Jhon Moziz.
“No, no, please, please, don’t do this to us!” she moaned weakly. “Don’t take away my memories of Temi, please, please, I beg of you!”
She watched, horrified, as Jhon Moziz pointed a hand at her, and she became absolutely still, unable to move!
Jhon Moziz uttered some very strange words, and then, suddenly, there was a round globe of green fire in Jhon Moziz’s hand, and he threw it at Neji Helen!
She was enshrouded in the green light completely, and as she watched, weeping and sick to her heart, she heard Jhon Moziz’s voice coming from far away.
“By the abilities given to me as Grand Oracle of the Empire of Dayo, and realizing this Earthly Maiden, Neji Helen, poses a threat to the destiny of my prince, I do hereby declare, bind and seal, that this Earthling Maiden will sleep, and wake up with no memories of Temi, of the Empire of Dayo, or anything that has transpired here…she, and the whole town, and anybody who came into contact with Temidayo of Dayo shall have no memories whatsoever! Sleep, Earthling Maiden, and wake up without Temi!”
And then Neji Helen suddenly closed her eyes as she fell into a deep sleep!
But she did not fall down, no.
The green ball of light held up her body, lifted her off the floor, and slowly glided with her back through the store, up the staircase, down the hall and straight to her bedroom, and then it lay her gently on the bed!
The ball of green fire shot out of the window and straight into the shroud of Jhon Moziz who was waiting outside Neji’s window. A moment later the chain around Neji Helen’s neck – the chain that Temi had given to her – slipped off her neck and flew out of the window too, and Jhon Moziz caught it deftly.
“Indeed, I’m sorry, Earthling Maiden,” Jhon Moziz whispered sadly. “But what must be done, must be done!”
And then, slowly, he vanished into the night.
Later in the morning Neji Helen woke up and stretched luxuriously.
She felt really sad, but she could not explain why.
She quickly brushed her teeth and slipped on her clothes, and went to the kitchen.
Neji was surprised to see her mother already in the kitchen, humming happily as she prepared breakfast.
Neji stopped suddenly with deep shock.
“Mama!” she said with disbelief. “You’re…your hands…they’re…”
Grace Ebere Opurum smiled and showed her beautiful hands to her daughter.
“The swellings are gone!” she said with an excited voice. “No pains in my legs too! I woke up this morning, and I was free from pains!”
“Oh, what a miracle!” Neji screamed, and then she embraced her mother tightly.
“Neji, my baby!” Grace Opurum shouted suddenly, and it was her turn to be shocked as she pointed a trembling finger at Neji’s face. “Your pimples…all gone!”
Neji Helen gasped!
Yes, she felt no pain on her face! Gingerly she ran her hands across her face…there were no ugly bumps, no uneven spots! Her face was as smooth as a baby’s cheeks!
Uche Joseph burst in, his face excited.
“The store is filled with people!” he screamed. “Baba needs help! And oh, there was a lot of money on the counter! And Dad just opened my results slip, which he forgot to do yesterday, and I am first in all the subjects! Me, the block head in the class…I am first in class for the very first time ever!”
“What is happening here?” Segun Osuolale said as he entered the kitchen. “Seems to me like something strange just happened to this family overnight! The blessings are unbelievable!”
Neji Helen scowled as she gently massaged her neck.
“Was I wearing a necklace last night?” she asked with some confusion, and her family burst into laughter.
“No!” Uche Joseph said. “You’ve always hated necklaces!”
Neji sighed with sudden trepidation.
“Tamidodo!” Neji whispered, her face filled with sudden sadness. “Tami…doyo?”
“What are you saying, dear?” Grace Ebere Opurum asked, gazing at her dear daughter with confusion.
“Yes, my darling, what name are you mentioning?” Segun Osuolale asked.
“I…I don’t know…” Neji whispered painfully. “There’s something…I seem to be forgetting…”
She knew there was something, but she just couldn’t put a finger on it. It seemed to her that a very important memory was eluding her. She tried, but to no avail, and finally stopped thinking about it, and started feeling happy with her family again.
And, outside in the backyard, the spirit of Jhon Moziz slowly put the necklace once more into the folds of his black hoodie.
“It is done,” he said miserably. “No memories for her. Indeed, I’m sorry, but it is done, and I’m sorry. Goodbye, Earthlings!”
He shot into the sky fast, and a moment later disappeared into the air.
