FINAL CHAPTER
[wp_ad_camp_1]They were all in the great hall of the palace.
All the Keepers, the queen and princess, Emmanuel Suncity, Prosper Freeman, Shemen Persis, Sage Samuel Agu and Jhon Moziz. They were huddled in the beautiful chairs and seats, and the expressions on their faces were looks of doom and dejection.
Okakuo Agbons and Princess Uvbi Akenzua were sitting a little far away, their arms around each other as they looked at each other with sad eyes, finding solace in the strength of their love.
They were all looking at Jhon Moziz as he stood in the middle of the hall with his staff and looking extremely forlorn and downcast. He looked old and listless as he struggled for words to say to them, words of hope that would lift their spirits, but there were none. He was finding it difficult to get out of his crippling fear and dejection, and he could simply not shirk the crippling fear that was wound around his heart.
Queen Kelly Philip’s lips were clamped tightly between her teeth, and tears shimmered in her eyes.
“Tomorrow will mark the end of the sixtieth day of the Apocalypse,” Jhon Moziz said softly and sadly. “If the prince does not return tomorrow, the Apocalypse will take full root. The whole of Dayo, including us, will turn to stone…and the elements of evil would come out of the White Lands and destroy both Dayo and the Earth!”

I know he will do everything in his power to help Dayo.”
“He was angry and bitter when he left, Your Highness,” Suncity said gravely. “Perhaps he thought us too untrustworthy to help.”
“My son takes after his father, Emma!” Queen Kelly shouted indignantly. “He does not hold grudges!”
“Well, my Queen, that is so, but…” Emmanuel Suncity began, but he clamped his mouth shut suddenly because the huge curtains in front of the marvellous doors that led to the Western Wing of the palace parted, and the doors flew open suddenly!
They all gasped with great shock when Rose Amaefule emerged from the King’s Quarters wearing a long white gown that set her beauty to perfection!
There was a mischievous look in her eyes and a sardonic little smile playing around her lips as she walked forward holding a tall vase within which was an olive tree overflowing with great branches and glorious green power, seeming so fresh and alive!
“Rose!” Queen Kelly screamed with deep shock as she bounded to her feet. “Where did you come from?”
They were all jabbering in a cacophonous excited chatter, but Rose said nothing as she set the vase down in front of Jhon Moziz, who was so shocked that his mouth was open wide as he stared with almost moronic rigidity at the plant in the vase!
“That’s your Dead Olive!” Rose said and turned again, running hard toward the doors. “Emma Suncity, you wanted to kill me, you wizard! That’s your Dead Olive, wicked man!”
“Rose, where’s my son!” Queen Kelly screamed, both agitated and excited at the same time.
Princess Uvbi Akenzua was on her feet and rushing toward Rose with tears of joy on her face, and laughter bubbling around her lips.
“Rose, where’s my brother?” she screamed. “Where’s Temi?”
“They made it!” Prosper whispered in awe, and began to laugh in his rich deep voice. “Oh, the Creator be praised…they fucking made it!”
“Knew he would,” Sage Agu said as Shemen Persis hugged him with tears of joy streaming down her face. “That boy has always been special…our special king!”
Rose was laughing happily and excitedly as she swerved the hand that Queen Kelly flung out to hold her.
“Stop, stop, Rosie!” Queen Kelly shouted, unable to hold her excitement as she rushed after Rose. “What’s wrong with you? Wait! Talk to us, damn it!”
“Leave us alone!” she shouted happily through her lovely laughter, but she did not stop or turn round. “He’s my husband now! He says you can have your olive and nobody should disturb us!”
“Goodness, Rose!” the Queen shouted, now laughing too. “Have you gone mad, girl? Stop this instant, I bid you!”
“Leave us alone, mother-in-law!” Rose shouted, unable to stop her laughter.
They all rushed toward her, and the door opened again, and Temi was standing just inside wearing only a pair of shorts and with an amazing crown on his head.
“Temi!” they shouted, but he was laughing too as he caught Rose in his arms and then looked at them.
“Keep away!” he said to the stunned onlookers. “You have your olive, old man! Fix it on the damn rock! Hey, Mother, Pops sends his love to you! Uvbi, dad sends his blessing for your marriage to that Agbons bastard! Hey, Commander Freeman!”
“Yes, Your Majesty!” Commander Prosper Freeman said and dropped to one knee. “Your servant listens.”
“Cut out the crap, my friend!” Temi said gently. “You never kneel to me, for I am your son. Please, make sure the remains of Moshood, Nneka’s husband, are exhumed and brought here. He will receive a fitting burial inside the Royal Cemetery!”
“It shall be done, Your Majesty!” Prosper said as tears came to his eyes, tears of relief and love. “I love you, Temi.”
“Temi, my son!” Queen Kelly said again, hurrying forward with her arms outstretched.
“My lovely Mama!” Temi said gently as he touched her hands lovingly. “We will talk, Mama. But, right now, I need to be with this witch.”
He stepped back into the room and kicked the door shut and barred it from behind.
“Temi, you goat!” the Queen cried with tears in her eyes, and everybody in the great hall began to laugh uproariously and, almost simultaneously, began to applaud.
Jhon Moziz did not applaud. He dropped down slowly on his knees and touched the glass holding the amazing olive branch.
“He saved us, just like the Oracles said!” the Grand Oracle whispered with uncontrollable relief. “That means he was in The Purge, and won! Purged the lands of evil…Oh, Temi, Temi, Temi…”
***
And so, early on the sixtieth day, a day that shocked the new king so much because he thought he had been in the White Lands for less than a week, but was shocked that timelines were different in Dayo, and those few days inside the White Lands had actually been about two month and in Dayo, they all gathered in the Dayo Square.
The two halves of the Rock of Redemption had come together, and Jhon Moziz hovered in the air and set the glass vase on the gigantic rock. He then hovered off the rock and stood beside Temidayo who was sitting in the wonderful throne his father had sat on almost nineteen years ago.
“What now?” Temi asked softly.
“We wait for acceptance, Your Majesty,” Jhon Moziz said.
Almost immediately the vase shattered, and the green olive tree pushed into the rock, and slowly its glorious branches spread outward!
And then, without warning, without thunder and without lightning, the weather opened up, and a gentle rain poured down!
“Acceptance!” Jhon Moziz screamed and raised his staff triumphantly. “The spirit of Dayo is back!”
The great number of onlookers assembled below the platform screamed wildly and applauded!
And as it rained, the stones began to change back!
Buildings, plants, animals, insects…and human beings!
They all began to change back, and all across the great Dayo Empire, family members, friends, strangers…came together, and hugged each other amidst tears, and screams and shouts of happiness and achievement!
They all gathered around giant screens spread all over the Empire to watch what was unfolding in Dayo Square!
Those who were in the capital of Dayo began to hurry toward the Dayo Square to see things for themselves, to witness this new dawn of life, of hope and of new beginnings! To live and to grow, and to know that the dark years that had lasted almost twenty years were over now.
It was a time to live, to hope, to aspire and to triumph.
Jhon Moziz was holding the grand crown as he stepped up to the throne, and then placed it on the head of Temidayo.
“People of Dayo!” the Grand Oracle screamed. “I present to you, your new king, son of King Demi and Queen Kelly, here he is…King David Temidayo Dayo! Today is his birthday, nineteenth birthday, the youngest King of Dayo! His wife, Rose, youngest new Queen! Accord them the honour!”
Temi stood up, and he wept silently as the rain fell gently on him, and the great applause of joy, happiness and hope rang out all over the Dayan land! He looked behind and beckoned to his friends and his queen, and they came to stand beside him.
The cries and applause never ceased.
Queen Kelly Philip stayed behind and watched her son putting his arm around his wife’s shoulders and looking down at her with love. Rose had her crown too, and was wearing the beautiful ceremonial gown of the queens, and she reached up and kissed Temi gently.
Kelly saw the king smiling, the king, her son had become the king…oh, how sweet it was!
She saw Temi pointing to someone in the crowd, and Rose turned her head to watch, and then the new queen gave a wild scream of happiness when she saw her father, Abdul, old Babangida and almost all the faces of the people she had met inside the Brown Rocks of the White Lands! A weeping Ziloux, her brother, was there too, but Rose barely looked at him. She just stared with dumbfounded happiness at her father!
Her father’s hands were clamped to his lips with happiness!
“How?” Rose asked Temi, her face twisted with great passion as she looked up at her husband.
Temi smiled down at her with great love.
“Last night, when you slept, I spoke to Jhon Moziz about it,” Temi said gently. “Evidently, now that I am king, I can pardon prisoners too, and he showed me how to open a portal to the Brown Rocks. I let all of them out, my love, for your sake. With evil purged, I’m convinced those men are of pure hearts now!”
“Oh, Temi!” Rose whispered as she burst into great tears now, her heart tearing up with indescribable and strong passion as she put her arms around her husband and squeezed him mightily. “You will kill me, Temi…you will simply kill me!”
He chuckled and kissed her sweet lips.
“Because I love you, Rosebud, because I love you to death!”
She kept her arms locked around his neck as she nibbled his ear.
“I don’t think this is the time for your foolishness, you two,” Jhon Moziz whispered frantically. “Official is official! Stop those bedroom nonsense!”
Temi chuckled and looked across Rose’s shoulders at the chagrined Grand Oracle.
“Yes sir, old bald man,” he said, making Rose giggle.
“And the men in the Damned?” she asked, and giggled when Temi made a dark face at her and shook his head.
“The men with the erections?” he asked with a sour look. “Maybe later, when my anger against them subsides a bit! How dared they!”
They both laughed again hard.
“You can go down to your father, my love,” he said gently to her, but although she was crying she shook her head gently and drew his head down and kissed him again.
“Later, my love, I’ll hug my father,” she whispered. “My place is beside you, now and here. There is a time for everything!”
“Your Majesty!” Jhon Moziz cried fiercely. “Break it up, please, goddamn it!”
Temi and Rose giggled as they finally broke apart and faced the screaming crowd, but Kelly Philip noticed that they kept on holding each other’s hand.
Kelly looked at her daughter, and standing beside her was her own love, Okakuo Agbons!
Almost unwittingly she looked sideways off the platform, and saw the stricken face of Juliet Udeh in the watching crowd. This woman had hated her, and imprisoned Kelly Philip in the dungeons out of spite, but Kelly did not hate her, because Dayo had had enough of hatred. Juliet looked at Kelly, and then she smiled with tears in her eyes, and made a slanting gesture across her heart…the Dayan gesture of ‘forgive me, I am sorry.’
Kelly nodded, and slanted across her heart too, this time in the opposite direction that meant ‘I forgive you.’
She wiped tears of joy from her face and exhaled deeply.
Here, almost twenty years ago, she had watched her husband slain, and the world had ended for her! She had watched her mother-in-law brutally killed! The horror and atrocity began here, but now, there was a new rain, a new life, a better future!
She cried, as she had cried so many years ago…
But today, her tears were of indescribable joy!
Dayo was alive once more!
EPILOGUE
[wp_ad_camp_1]It was the last day of the Yam Festival in Asawka.
The streets of the village were filled with citizens wearing their best clothes as they enjoyed the carnival!
Local drama troupes were playing great cultural songs and many people were dancing with abandon!
The main festivities were on the huge park in front of the palace where a great crowd had gathered. Yam mashed with red oil and a lot of fish and meat was on display at many tables around the park for the people to eat and enjoy!
The king of Asawka and his family were on the raised platform watching the festivities with great joy. He held a horsetail whisk and waved it at the dancers to express his appreciation.
The prince of Asawka sat on a smaller throne behind his father with his beautiful wife, Neji Helen and their one-year-old son, Abu, who was sitting on his father’s laps and giggling happily.
Neji Helen sat quietly with a calm expression on her face.
It had been a hard couple of years, yes.
Her second meeting with that Grand Oracle from the mysterious Dayo Empire had left her a bit drained, and there had been times she had wished she had allowed the man to take her memories again.
Living here and loving Temi had taken a toll on her, but thankfully, Abu had come along and filled her with a bundle of happiness. It had been a battle with her heart, but finally she had come to accept that her love with Temi was a rare pocket of happiness she would hold in her heart forever, and move on with her life.
She would try to be the best wife to her husband, and the best mother to her children. Maybe, in another life, at another time, she would find him again, and spend her life with him.
Oh, Temi!
How she missed him especially this day! She wondered if he was able to save his people.
She was so engrossed with the train of her thoughts that she failed to notice the loud silence around her. It took a moment for her to see that all the noise had died down quite suddenly!
She looked around her with sudden fear when she realized that everyone present was frozen in place!
Her husband was looking at her with a concerned look on his face, but he was as still as a statue! Her son was reaching up to touch his father’s nose, his face filled with happiness, but he was also very still!
Neji Helen got to her feet and looked around her with great fear now!
The king was frozen, the dancers were frozen…everybody was absolutely frozen!
Neji touched her husband and her son.
“Abu, darling!” she whispered. “My love, my prince! What is this? What is happening?”
She looked around, her fear escalating as the whole scene befuddled her mind! Everyone in the village was frozen! Just as she was about to scream to break the horrible silence, she heard a sharp whining noise, and when she looked up a beautiful golden door dropped from the skies and slammed down hard on the ground in front of the platform!
It was just a door, but all around it wild flames burned!
Helen Neji gasped and took faltering steps backwards with her heart racing with fear, but the door opened slowly inward, giving her a glimpse of an incredibly-luxurious room within, and then Temi stepped out.
Tall, grand, the most handsome man in the world!
He was wearing dark trousers and a white top that enhanced his extreme handsomeness. He was still young, but there was an unmistakable air of maturity and royalty on him now.
She knew he was not the same naïve innocent man she had known!
Temi, her Temi, had become a man!
Neji gasped and put her hands on her chest, and before she knew what she was doing she ran toward him and jumped off the platform straight into his arms.
Tears of great happiness flooded her, and she almost melted when his arms went around her and held her in a tight embrace.
“Oh, Temi, Temi, my love, you came back!” she wept uncontrollably.
“Hush, Neji,” he said gently as he held her at arm’s length and looked at her. “Yes, I came back to see you a final time, as I promised, and to thank you for everything you did for me.”
Neji pushed his hands off her shoulders and hugged him closely again, putting her face against his chest and squeezing him hard.
“I don’t need thanks, my love,” she whispered gravely, painfully. “I just need my love back, Temi. Just want to spend the rest of my life with you!”
“Oh, Neji!” he whispered painfully and rubbed her back. “How wonderful it would have been, but alas, things moved in directions we could not control. The Creator, our master, had plans that could not be broken.”
She froze, and her heart beat with pain as she stepped back from him.
She looked at him with great horror now.
“You love someone else,” she whispered painfully as she saw the incredible wedding ring on his ring finger. “You married someone else! Temi!”
He put his hands on her shoulders.
“Listen, Neji, my dear,” he whispered gently. “Please, forgive me if I hurt you in any way.”
“You promised to come back for me!” she cried painfully. “You promised me, Temi, but you forgot all about me, didn’t you?”
“Alas, the Grand Oracle took our memories because the fight ahead of me was great, Neji. But, I have studied the Royal Oracles, a book even the Grand Oracle is not permitted to read, reserved only for Kings. And inside that book, the Royal Oracles, it is stated that even if Jhon Moziz had not taken our memories, we could not have been together because it is not possible for you to live in my land. Dayans can come to earth, because we are the keepers of this planet, but if an earthling comes to Dayo, he will perish.”
“Then you could have come here to earth, my love, and been with me!” she cried painfully as her tears shimmered in her eyes.
He sighed and smiled down at her gently.
“It could have been so, indeed, dear Neji,” he said gently. “But then the earth would’ve been in turmoil with me not being where I’m supposed to be to ensure a proper balance is kept on earth. But all is well. I am happy to see you married, and with a prince for a child.”
“But not happy, Temi!” she cried miserably. “I’m not happy without you! And you’re married! And you have children?”
He nodded at her.
“Two troublesome little babies who keep me awake at night, Neji,” he said gently. “A boy and a girl, twins. But I want you to be happy too, please, for my sake, for me, and for the pure feelings we shared.”
“You love her, this new woman, don’t you?” she asked bitterly.
“Rose,” he said and nodded. “Yes, Neji. She does drive me crazy. Was a time I almost killed her…but yes, I do love her. But Neji, what you and I shared will always be here.”
He touched his heart area with a sweet smile on his face.
“You showed me love, and kindness and I’ll never forget you,” he said as he drew her into his embrace again.
Her shoulders shook heavily as she wept bitterly.
“Our love was doomed from the beginning,” she whispered. “We were never meant to be together!”
“Don’t cry, Neji dear, because it breaks my heart,” he whispered tenderly. “Another time, another life, I will find you, Neji Helen of Asawka.”
She looked at him and smiled beautifully through her pain.
“Oh, Temi,” she whispered. “You always kill me with your sweetness! But it is well. Your happiness makes me happy! Tell me you avenged the deaths of your father and grandmother!”
He smiled.
“I did, and there’s great peace in Dayo.”
“I knew you would, my love,” she whispered and touched his heart area. “Keep me in your heart, Temi, my love. Never forget me.”
“You’ll burn there forever, Neji Helen,” he said, and then took out his father’s chain from his pocket, the one he had given her before leaving the last time, the same chain Jhon Moziz had taken away again.
“This belongs to you, Neji,” he said gently. “I will always be looking at you, dear. Be happy for me.”
“I will!” she said as she took the chain. “Oh, Temi, now that I have seen you again, heard your voice, felt your embrace…it will keep my heart beating again!”
“I’m glad, Neji,” he whispered. “I need to go now.”
She wept harder now, uncontrollably.
“Will I ever see you again, Temi?” she whispered.
“That I do not know, Neji Helen!” he said, his brow furrowed with worry. “Your tears make me sad. Indeed, maybe I should have stayed away.”
“No, no, Temi, my love!” she cried desperately. “I’m so glad you came to see me again. See, I have stopped crying.”
She stopped weeping and cleaned her face.
“Put the chain around my neck, please love?” she said and turned.
He unhooked the chain, slipped it around her neck, and hooked it up again.
She turned round and looked at him.
They both laughed then, gently and happily as they used to.
“That’s better,” he whispered.
“So, you’re a king now, I suppose?” she asked. “Keeping watch over the Earth.”
“I am,” he said gently. “Made possible by your kind heart. Thank you, Neji Helen.”
“Thank you, Temi, for making me feel the passion of real love.”
He nodded sadly.
“Goodbye, Neji.”
He turned toward the door, but she reached out desperately and wound her arms around his neck, raising her tear-stained face.
“Kiss me, Temi, for a final time, my love!” she whispered. “Let me feel the passion of your love one more time!”
Temi sighed as he looked down at her face with a trace of pain in his eyes.
“Ah, Neji Helen of the sweet lips,” he said with a sad smile. “I still remember your kisses searing my soul, my very first kisses, and nothing would please me more than to feel those lips on mine again, and taste the honey in there. But, alas, Dayan kings live by the dictates of the Creator, and the principles He judges us by are hard sometimes. If I kiss you, I might not be able to go through the portal again, Neji my dearest.”
He hugged then, and kissed her on the cheek fondly.
She smiled sweetly into his eyes.
“Yes, that is my Temi,” she whispered. “So pure, so holy, so principled! Here in Asawka, my husband can have the delights of another woman if I’m incapacitated or pregnant, and can’t warm his bed.”
“That is untenable!” he said, chagrined. “You need him most when you’re vulnerable! I will let Jhon Moziz, my Grand Oracle, change their minds at once so that they do away with such barbaric thinking.”
Neji laughed softly.
“Don’t do such a thing, my love,” she whispered. “I don’t care, really. I’ll just be a good wife and a mother to the best of my ability, knowing I have the greatest Dayan king out there looking after me.”
“Neji, my best friend,” he whispered.
She nodded with a heart beating with craving and longing.
“Temi!” she whispered. “Oh, my Temi! I love you so much!”
“Be happy for me, Neji,” he said. “You deserve it. Goodbye, my cherished earthling lady.”
He smiled at her, and then stepped backward again quickly.
The flaming door opened, and he stepped into the portal, then he turned and smiled beautifully at her. Neji Helen raised her hand and waved, and she was not surprised at the sharp pain that seared her heart.
The portal became less and less visible, and then vanished.
He was gone.
Neji wept softly for a while, and realized that the pain in her heart was alright now. She could live on, knowing he remembered, and still had her in his heart.
Yes, that kiss on the cheek would last her a lifetime, and as he had said…maybe another time, another life…
[wp_ad_camp_1]She went back to her seat, and the moment she sat down, the noise started all over again!
The drums beat, and the dancers danced.
“Are you okay, my love?” her husband asked her as her son touched his nose.
“I’m fine, my darling,” Neji replied with a sweet smile.
But her hand was on her dress above her breasts, and it was holding Temi’s chain tightly.
And then, strangely, she felt a warm glow spreading through her, and a happy bubble began way down within her as, unbeknown to her, the mercies of the Creator took over, for Temi’s sake, and slowly eased her pain…and the same mercies flowed through her husband so that he looked at her with a different set of loving eyes, and he reached out and took her hand.
And by the time the festivities were over, Neji Helen had found a new ground of loving, and happiness burned within their hearts.
