EPISODE 1
Twum Boafo: Maame nurse, good day. Please my wife is in a critical state so can you please help me out?
Nurse: (twisting her mouth whiles making noise with the gum she was chewing) Does you wife have our hospital card?
Twum Boafo: No maame nurse, this is the first time we are coming to this hospital.
Nurse: Then you people have to wait, the one who writes the card has left for her lunch break so when she comes back then we will take it from there.
Kwame Adjei: What sort of nonsense is that suppose to mean? Do you think it is because of the hospital scent here that is why we are here or the beauty of this place? You heard what my brother said, his wife is sick and she in a very critical state and you sit there twisting your mouth like a ruminant to tell us to wait? Why are most of you young nurses so rude and arrogant like that? If the woman was your mother or aunt, will you be there talking nonsense?
Twum Boafo: Kwame please take it easy with her.
Nurse: Sir please leave him, let him insult and abuse me. He thinks he can leave the comfort of his house and come to my office and tell me what to do. He thinks because he is older than me, he can order me around as if he was the one who employed me. I have seen so many of his kind whom have even done worse than him so give him the room to operate, when he is done barking like a toothless dog that he is, he will shut up and go back to his cage.
Kwame Adjei: It is your father’s mother who is a toothless dog. It is your mother’s husband who is barking. It is your foolish face that will be sent into the cage. Young lady if you try me I will deal with you mercilessly, foolish girl. Is it because we have come for medical assistance that is why you are showing off erh, look at her multi coloured face like a chameleon. If you don’t take care erh, you will see the other side of me.
Twum Boafo: Kwame please calm down, kindly take a seat as I talk with the nurse and please no more utterances from you, let me handle everything myself.
Mrs Twum Boafo: (talks from her seat in a sick voice) Kwame Boafo if anything happens to me erh, I will never forgive you anywhere I find myself. See the mess and pain you are taking me through?
Junior: Mummy please dont say that, nothing will happen to you so please take it easy.
Twum Boafo: Maame nurse so please how long will your colleague take before she comes back to her post? As you can see, my wife is really sick and she is in great pain. Please kindly help us by admitting her first, the hospital card or folder thing can be tackled later. I have her health insurance card and everything here so please help us out
Nurse: Sir that is not how we do things here, I can only admit your wife if her condition was worse than I am seeing her now but with her current condition she can wait and go through the laid down formalities.
Twum Boafo: My dear, my wife is in pain and really suffering, please do something for us, I don’t mind giving you something small as moltivation. All I want now is for my wife to receive treatment and get better.
Nurse: You said you have her health insurance card here, let me see so that the small boy over there can go and run a photocopy of her card outside the hospital. Our photocopier machine for this hospital got spoilt 3months ago.
Twum Boafo: (fishes the card out from his breast pocket) Please this is her card, Junior come over here so you go and do a photocopy for the nurse.
Nurse: (takes a look at the card) Ah but sir, this card is bond to expire tomorrow. I can’t accept it please.
Back at the Resturant:
Mrs Nortey: So my dear what is your final verdict, are you in or not?
Youngman: Madam if I accept your offer then what happens to my relationship with my finance? She has never wronged me and I can’t walk out of the relationship just like that.
Mrs Nortey: Ah who is talking about a breakup here? I am a married woman who is still married to my husband but because he is not performing his marital duties well, that is why I am employing your services. What I want from you is not a full time thing, you will be with your fiancee still and when I need you, you come and render your services.
Youngman: So madam, sorry Becky, what if she is with me and you also need my attention? My girlfriend is the jealous type who wants undivided attention anytime she is with me.
Mrs Nortey: That is when you show your manliness, if your financial statue changes, you can control her the way you want or like. See if you are able to play by my rules and you are able to satisfy me well, your life will turn around soon. I will give you money that you can’t ever imagine of, you will be able to take very good care of your parent, siblings and your fiancee. I need not talk plenty for you to take a decision on this simple matter, it is a now or never affair.
Youngman: Hmmmmm if you say I can still be with my fiancee whiles I am with you then I don’t have a problem, I am in.
Mrs Nortey: You are indeed smart but I hope you are as strong as your muscles down there? I don’t like a one minute or five minutes man, I want a man who can give it to me like 30 to 50minutes minutes non-stop. If you are able to do this, then in no time the zeros in you account will multiply because I will take very good care of you.
Youngman: Becareful for what you ask for madam Becky because I am a machine and a maniac when it comes to what you are asking of me.
Mrs Nortey: (sips her wine) Oh really, you mean you are a mercilessly striker when it comes to that or should I call you bedroom commando? Well I will like to have a piece of that right now, let me get a key to one of their nice rooms here so you show me the stuff you are made of.
Youngman: Ah do they have rooms here in this restaurant?
Mrs Nortey: Yes they have private rooms here, this place is a big time hideout so from today, the room we are about to go in will be out meeting place or battle grounds. Anytime I want us to meet, this is the place you will come and wait for me. Anything you want will be given to you as I will instruct them to always treat you special because you are my special asset. Where is this girl, Emefa!!!
Emefa: (rushes in) Madam please you called me.
Mrs Nortey: Yes I did my dear, get me the key to my private room and tell your madam I am taking a nap inside so she should wait for me before she goes home and you see this handsome youngman here, he is a very important person to me so anytime he comes here, please accord him with the same respect you give me. Kelvin please anytime you also come here, ask of Emefa. She will be the one to attend to your needs. Emefa how do you see my guest?
Emefa: He is indeed very handsome and charming. Sir you are very welcome and please if you need anything, at the mention of Emefa, all your needs will be attended to.
Mrs Nortey: Very well my dear but hey don’t try anything funny with him because if you try and I get to find out, I will cut your boobs, fry it and serve it to you as your supper. Now go and do as I have instructed.
Back at the Hospital:
Kwame Adjei: (screaming on top of his voice) So what nonsense are we experiencing over here? Where are the doctors and nurses in this hospital for crying out loud? We have been here close to 40minutes and no one is saying anything to us or attending to us.
Matron: (hears the noise and comes out to see what is going on) Excuse me sir, I believe you are very much aware that this place is a no noise area and why is this sick woman sitting her unattended to?
Kwame Adjei: Please ask that arrogant nurse over there. She has bluntly refused to attend to us or listen to anything we have to say, I wonder who employed her into this hospital in the first place.
Matron: So sorry about that sir and you Rashida, why haven’t you attended to the woman? Where are your colleagues too?
Nurse: (in a confused state) Sorry matron but I am only following the laid down procedure.
Matron: Which bloody laid down procedure are you talking about here? Have you forgotten the oath you took to protect lives of the people you come in contact with? You better start talking because I see you to be in a very big trouble which can lead you to a month or two suspension.
Nurse: Matron, the new administrator circulated a cash and carry memo around that, if a patient is brought here and he or she doesn’t deposit money, we shouldn’t commence treatment on that person.
Matron: Are you listening to the nonsense that just came out of your silly mouth? When did this nonsense and madness start that I am not aware of? Is the money in question more precious or valuable than lives of the people who come here for treatment? God gives lives whiles medical practitioners saves lives, we don’t rather worsen the predicament of people who come to us for life. I am disappointed in you and that clueless administrator, I want to assure you that the director of this Health Centre will hear of this inhuman laws you people are practicing. Now go and get a wheelchair so you rush this very sick woman to the Emergency Ward.
Nurse: Yes matron I will do as you have instructed. (rushes to get the wheelchair)
Matron: Madam you will be taken care of and please sirs, find a place in your heart to forgive the insolent behaviour of the nurse. As she said she was only following orders from above.
Kwame Adjei: She should pray nothing happens to my brother’s wife, if not this hospital will be shut down and I will see to it that none of the workers here will be employed in any hospital in this country.
Matron: (turns to watch the face of Twum Boafo) Wait a minute, don’t tell me this is Kwame Twum Boafo?
Twum Boafo: (raises his head to watch the face of the matron) Yes I am Twum Boafo and please who are you because I don’t remember you?
Matron: Kwame this is Adwoa Amoakoah, we were in the same hostel back at the university and you helped me pay my final exams fees when we were doing the registration and I lost my money. I searched for you everywhere on campus to thank you but I didn’t see you again. If not for your benevolence and generosity like I wouldn’t know what will become of me. Anywhere I have gotten in life, you are the big reason for that and I want to say thank you very much.
Twum Boafo: I am glad my little assistance made a difference in your life.
Nurse: Matron please I am in and I want to take the woman away to the Emergency ward.
Matron: Please sir, kindly help the woman onto the wheelchair so she is taken into the ward where treatment will commence. Mr Twum Boafo, I will need you in my office.
Back at City:
TV Anchor: Cherished viewers, we are crossing carpet to the police headquarters where I am told the Inspector General of Police has something for the media. My colleague Kofi Dumor is present there so I will hand over to him so he takes over from there. Kofi if you can hear me, please tell us what is happening at your end.
Kofi Dumor: Wendy thank you very much, as our cherished viewers and listeners have been already informed, this morning a special unit formed by the IGP of the police, embarked on a successful operation where a youngman who is believed to be part of the people who kidnapped some girls in the Western Region.
The suspect was rushed to the CID Headquarters for further interrogation and questioning, we the media and pressmen here wanted answers for some questions but the IGP and the CID boss promised to get back to us after they have properly been briefed on things. Some few minutes ago, the director of communication of the Ghana Police Service released a memo which states that the IG will engage us soon with some information they have gathered so far.
TV Anchor: Okay Kofi so how is the atmosphere right now at the place?
Kofi Dumor: Wendy looking around this place, it is a bit quite and dull because the way and manner the innocent girls were kidnapped, it is still is a mystery to everyone. Looking behind me, you can see a lot of microphones from different media houses and I must say most of us here are in an expectant mood and we are craving for good news. Before the director of communication left this room, she left some few words of advice and I will run you by the details.
She said we shouldn’t leave our wards in the care of strangers or people we are not much familiar with. Again she said we shouldn’t send our kids out to isolated places and at ongodly hours. She said again that we need to build a health relationship with our kids so that, they can feel free to discuss or tell us things that happens around them. And she also said we need to devote time for our kids, visit their schools to see if they are studying hard or even putting up a good behaviour up or even attending class regularly. She said it will be better to know the houses of some close friends of our kids.
Again she said we should be careful and observant in our houses, offices and everywhere we go because in most cases, the kidnappers follow their victims for days before kidnapping them. Lastly she said if you are driving, be communicating with your mirrors and if you see someone or a particular car following you, you either drive to the nearest police station and lodge a complaint or you can drive to a place where there are people around. Wendy the CID boss and the IGP just walked in so let me pause here and leave the rest to them to say……..
What do you think the IGP and CID boss have for us?
Have you ever come across a nurse like Rashida before?
Do you see any trouble coming to the way of Kelvin?
Let the dicussion continue to flow at your end and you know am always available for discussions.
