THE GOOD MAN
THREE DAYS LATER…
Kobina Ferguson was sitting on a bar stool taking stock of drinks after the weekend’s activities. He was using his own customized way of counting the number of shots of hard liquor left in the various bottles. He then counted the beers and the soft drinks too. After being at it for a couple of hours, he compiled a list of drinks needed for the upcoming weekend and placed orders by calling the various distributors.
Â
Feeling hungry, he made his way to Bottom Tree which in years gone by, used to be a meeting place for Railways and Ports workers but had now been turned into a mini market.
He had stopped sending Nkuto to the Market Circle for food after that embarrassing situation he was put in that fateful day.
He bought etsew na kyenam and made his way back to the Club.
Always courteous, always the gentleman, he responded to greetings from shop owners and others. On his way back he even accepted the pleadings of ladies who wanted to be at the Club for free at the weekend.
Â
Done with lunch, he had information from the owner of the Club that Sister Mimi, a wealthy Takoradi based businesswoman had booked the Club for her birthday party on the upcoming Saturday.
And so, when he closed for the day, he passed by her house at Sikafo Ambantem no. 3 to discuss the booking.
Â
Â
“Kobina o Kobina welcome o,” she called out when she saw him.
Â
“Hahaha, Sister Mimi herself. I am here to talk about your birthday party.”
Â
“I can see that… my girls will be at the Club to put in the necessary decorations and would bring the drinks too.”
“Let them come at 12 midday as the place would have been cleaned then, after the Ladies Nite.”
Ohh ok. it’s Ladies Nite tonight right?”
“Yeah, I’ll reserve an empty freezer for your drinks.”
“Oh great, this saves me from the problem of going for ice blocks.”
Â
“No problem, Sister Mimi, I must be on my way home then.”
Â
“OK, handsome Kob, take this 50 cedis for your T n T.”
Despite his repeated attempts at refusing to take the money, she wouldn’t take no for an answer and forced it on him. As he got to the door and was almost out of it, she called out to him.
“Are you married?”
“No please,” he responded.
“Oh great, OK, see you on Saturday.”
Â
Â
He got home to his one room self-contained house at Sikafo Ambantem no 1 and saw that someone, a lady, was sitting in his porch, going through her phone. It was Dzifa Gold, a 25 year old voluptuous beauty he had been interested in for a while but her insolent and insulting behaviour had put him off. He wondered what she wanted now that he had decided to stay away from her and from all girls to help him make something of his life.
Â
“Welcome home. Brother Kobina,” she greeted, giving him her sweet smile.
“Thank you,” he said wondering what could have brought her to his doorsteps.
Â
“To what do I owe this surprise visit.”
Â
“Hmmmm, Mom has travelled and I was home alone so when the power went off and I couldn’t find the prepaid card, I decided to come and watch my favourite series here,” she explained, looking at him with uncertainty.
“I see, so if your lights hadn’t gone off, you wouldn’t have visited me, erh?”
“Oh it’s not like that o, I also wanted to hang out with you, hahaha”
Â
He opened his door, to his room which had all the accessories to make ones life comfortable.
He took out a pack of jollof and fried red fish from the fridge and put it in the microwave, set the timer and switched on the TV for Dzifa.
He then went to have his bath wondering what game Dzifa could be up to.
Done with bathing, he took the food from the microwave said, “you are invited” and proceeded to have his dinner.
After the meal, he sat on the bed while she sat in the couch holding the TV remote control and surfing through the channels. He soon dozed off.
He jerked into wakefulness after sleeping for a couple of hours to prepare for the Club. He saw that Dzifa had fallen asleep with the TV still on.
He quickly got dressed, putting on a jeans trousers and a black lacoste with shiny black shoes. He then woke up Dzifa.
“Awww, brother Kobina, let me sleep small,” she said sleepily arching her sexy body.
He stared at her with seething impotent rage and left after switching off the TV.
Â
As had been the norm since its inception, the Paradox Nite Club had chosen Fridays as Ladies Nite and as such ladies were allowed to go into the Club without paying on Fridays.. only the men pay, and that night was no exception. It was a normal Friday night, until some vagabonds from the Main Spain of Top Ten area in Takoradi, decided to molest the patrons, especially the ladies and Kobina and his bouncers had a tough time dealing with the situation and he had no option than to call for help from the Police men guarding the various banks in the area, but by the time they arrived, the ruffians had already left.
Â
From then on it was smooth sailing throughout the night. It really was an enjoyable night as the DJ dished out nice danceable tunes to the admiration of all, making the dance floor packed with people. Asaboni, Azonto, Atopa and all the crazy dance steps repped.
Even though Kobina Ferguson, as the Manager of Club had most of the female patrons throwing themselves at him, he always refused to be enticed thereby, making his subordinates take full advantage of the situations.
At around 3:00 am after once again warding off some sexual forays from a couple of ladies, he signalled the DJ to end proceedings bearing in mind that he had a party to organize in less than 12 hours.
He closed up, and took a taxi home. Tiredly, he opened his door and stopped short at the sight before him . Dzifa Gold was lying on his bed stark naked in all her glory…
