“My Lord!” Prosper Freeman cried, alarmed. “It is the wish of the Spirits! The way they have chosen!”
“There’s another way, through the land of the waiting spirits!” the king said quickly. “A portal that is open, my Lord. You can go through it to Hades, right now, as you are! But, you cannot use this portal if you marry Grace!”
“It is of unknown elements, my Lord!” Prosper Freeman cried. “For starters, I cannot enter that portal to be of need to you if it arises! Secondly, it is in the Scrolls that you can pass through the Land of Waiting Spirits to Hades, but no one knows for sure!”
“Oh, let your lying tongue pause its wagging!” the king cried, exasperated. “The Land of the Waiting Spirits has two exit ways, my Lord! One that leads to Gleam, for deserving spirits, and one that leads to Hades, for spirits of evil!”
“But the Breed is not a spirit! He’s a living entity! How then, could he use that portal?”
“The GET in his forehead enables him to! And secondly, he is the Warrior of the Spirits! He can transcend and tread the multiverse, including Hades and Gleam, should it be of good purpose! He wastes away here! And he risks confining Grace of the Skits to Hades! But he can be fleet-footed, if he passes through the Land of the Waiting Souls!”
“Then so be it!” Sena said calmly. “I see no other way!”
“No, my Lord, please no!” Prosper Freeman cried with passion. “Through that portal you will enter naked, with nothing, my Lord! You cannot take your axe along! You have to enter it as an innocent soul, with bare hands, and make your way to Hades! Remember, only the Axe of the Executioners given by the Spirits can kill Lord Lastor!”
“The Axe of the Executioners is for earth, dear Sage!” the king said. “With the Halo Breed within Hades, he would be guided by the Spirits to the destiny that awaits!”
Sena sighed and looked down at the raging fire beneath him.
“Can I say goodbye to my people?” he asked calmly.
“Alas, that cannot be, for the portal is unstable as it is, and already beginning to close. If you must leave, it must be now!”
“Don’t hearken unto his voice, I beseech you, my Lord!” Prosper said desperately. “He is in haste because the spirit of his wife usurped the natural ways of the Spirits, and he fears the consequences would be dire for his wife! Surely, she would miss Gleam, and end up in Hades! That’s why he wants to hasten your hand to right things so that his wife will be pardoned!”
“I will not lie about it, that is true, but it is only part of the reason!” King Koduah said. “I also seek retribution for Lord Lastor, and the sovereignty of earth restored and protected against evil! And that, my son, is the truth!”
Sena Kukah looked at the pale king for a while, then he nodded.
“We leave,” he said finally. “Dear Sage, keep my people informed. Protect them till I return!”
“Ah, your stubbornness and foolhardiness sometimes stir my ire sore and raw!” the Sage of the Spirits cried as he watched the king soaring into the bright, circular, shimmering portal in the ceiling with naked Sena behind him.
As soon as they went through, the portal closed, and Sena’s mattress dropped into the raging fire. Prosper Freeman stretched his staff, and suddenly heavy water fell from the ceiling and began to douse the raging fire. He dropped low, opened the door and went into the lounge where he saw the women gathered and frantically trying to get into the room.
“There’s fire in Sena’s room!” Grace of the Skits shouted. “Oh, Sage, help him, help him!”
The Sage, having made himself visible, walked slowly with a heavy heart to a sofa and sat down.
“He’s not there. He left, through a portal, for Hades!”
The women cried in dismay, and Kharisa dropped beside the sofa and clamped the arm of the Sage.
“What are you talking about?” she cried. “How is that possible? You told us the only way is through the Tenements, with Grace!”
“Another way was found, and he took it foolishly!” the Sage cried. “Now, stop badgering me already! The breed of Halos takes his own decisions. I’m only there to guard and guide him!”
“Then why did you let him leave alone?” Mavis Tease cried. “You should have stopped him, or gone with him.”
“I couldn’t go through that portal!” Prosper said tamely. “What’s done is done. We can only pray to the Spirits to keep him safe, and make him successful!”
Grace Klubi and Kharisa looked at each other with tragic eyes and faces of remorse.
They both knew the truth now!
It would have been better to share Sena Kukah, than to have him taken from them this suddenly and without a word of goodbye, or one of his passionate kisses.
“How long is he going to be in there?” Kharisa stood in front of Prosper and asked.
“Yes, Sage, for how long would he be gone? You failed in your duties, didn’t you?” Grace said cruelly.
“Stop your silliness, you vain Earthlings!” Prosper cried with uncharacteristic wrath. “Leave me alone!”
And then he made himself invisible and left the two beautiful girls holding hands forlornly.
