The Last Kiss Episode 14 is on….
EUNICE ANSAH-AGYEMAN
THE LAST KISS
EPISODE 14
Curtis walks into the crowded bar and heads for their favourite spot.
It has been a while since he met up with the guys for a sit up.
He has given one excuse after the other just to be free of them.
The truth of the matter is that Omar and his obnoxious girlfriend are getting on his nerves over Alicia, and he has been trying to avoid them.
The last time they met, he had been pushed over the edge so much that he had thrown a punch aimed at Omar.
Secretly, he has decided to shun their company outright to avoid any further confrontations.
Curtis is aware Omar means well and is just looking out for him but he is happy where he is and wants him to accept that.
Kobby has promised he is meeting him alone that night but deep down he knows that’s impossible.
He finds their usual spot occupied by strangers and looks around to see if he will find Kobby.
A tap on his shoulder from behind makes him turn.

The hug is so tight Curtis feels air is draining from his windpipe without replacement.
Curtis senses the hug has a million and one emotions in it. He feels his childhood friend’s fear, pain, worry and sadness in his hug.
“Hi buddy, how be?” Kobby asks when they finally break free from the hug.
“Cool, bro. It’s just been hectic with work and… “
Omar walks in then with a forced smile on his face.
The three friends find a spot and put in an order.
Curtis notices that for the first time in ages it’s just the three of them, no female companions especially from Omar and Kobby.
The three friends share jokes and recall their past pranks and conquests whiles enjoying a good drink.
Curtis is, however, toying with his drink.
Kobby clears his throat and speaks.
“OK guys, let’s get down to why we are here. You know, we’ve been friends since we were babies because our parents lived in the same neighbourhood. We went to the same basic school, secondary and finally the same university. We have grown to be more like brothers. Years ago, we made a pact never to let go of this beautiful relationship we share.Â
Present events have rendered us worried and for the very first time the very foundation of this brotherhood has been threatened. Curt, I pulled you here today to reason with you and beg you to cut ties with Alicia. We are scared she is going to infect you and then we will lose you. We love you massively and wish you can see things from our perspective.”

Curtis is quiet for a long time. He should have known better than trust his friend about a supposed emergency. He is angry that he has left Alicia when she was hurting over Ekow’s story because his buddy has sounded like his problem was a matter of life and death.
“Guys, I know you mean well but I got this. Alicia is my life support and there’s no way I’m leaving her. I know it’s scary and all but when you truly love someone nothing matters. I will ask you two to back down. No one is forcing me to live with Alicia. I want to be with her. I love her and that’s it. Nothing more, nothing less and you two will learn to respect that if I ever meant anything to you.” Curtis responds with all seriousness and a bit angry.
“I honestly don’t know why you are so calm about this. We are talking about HIV/AIDS. The deadly disease that has no respect for anyone, the ultimate soul crusher and life terminator. You have to consider this, bro. There are better women out there. Alicia is not good for you. I’ll bet she knew exactly what she was doing. She’s a fake, leave her now that there’s time before she sinks her destructive claws into you.” Omar offers.
“I won’t have you talk about my wife like that, Omar. Alicia is not that callous. I don’t even have to stay here and listen to the nonsense coming out of your mouth. It’s my wife you guys are talking about and I will appreciate it if you accorded her the respect that’s due her. I really am not in the mood for power play with you guys.
I have the most kind, loving and caring wife in Alicia. It’s a shame you guys don’t see it. And nobody is forcing you to be friends with her. She is my life, my problem so let me be the one who takes the decisions when it comes to her. I’m sorry I can’t stay if you are going to go on and on about this.”
Curtis gets to his feet to leave.
And then he sees her.Â
He turns around swiftly to face his friends.
“Whose idea was it to bring Cynthia here? You guys are really pathetic. Is that how you show your loyalty to a friend you claim is more than a brother? I’m truly disappointed in the two of you.”
Kobby is speechless. He stares at Omar with shock all over his face.
He has no clue why Cynthia is there. Omar has mentioned a surprise when they spoke in the morning but this is too much.
“Look Curt. I am only trying to help you. I don’t know what Alicia has fed you with to make you so headstrong. There’s a time to love and a time to let go. You have done your part, now is the time to let go. If she ever loved you, she will understand. Bottom line is, we don’t want to lose you.” Omar explains.
“I honestly don’t know what you guys are thinking. I love Alicia and you should all get that through your thick skulls. She is my wife and you all should learn to respect that. This matter is closed, and if you bring it up again, you will see a side of me you’ve never seen. Enough of the meddling.” Curtis states between clenched teeth fighting so hard to keep his anger at bay.
Cynthia moves closer to him and looks straight into his eyes.
“Curtie darling, I know I betrayed your trust in me. I was stupid and plead for closure. My life is not the same without you. I’ve loved no one else all this while. It’s not like I’ve not tried but it’s simply impossible. I want us to start afresh especially with what has happened. God still believes you and I have a chance. Forget Alicia, especially now that you know her true worth. Stop living in a fool’s paradise. I’m sure she planned to trap you all this while. I’m sure she knew exactly what she was doing. Stop defending her because she is not worth it.”
“And you are worth it?” Curtis cuts in. “You never cease to amaze me. You have the audacity to stand before me and spill this crap in my face? Well, let me tell you this for the last time, I really curse the day my eyes ever fell on you. I don’t love you, I never did. What I feel now for Alicia is real and there’s no way I will choose you over her. Let this be the last time you come this close to me. And you two should take this as the last time I tolerate your disrespect for me and the woman I love.”Â
Curtis leaves without looking back despite the pleas from his friends to stay.
He gets into his car and sits for a while to calm his nerves.
He has come so close to beating the hell out of his friends. And it goes without saying that he is so angry his friends will do something like that.
As he drives home, he wonders what they would have done if he had ended up with HIV.Â
The thought that he has left Alicia when she was hurting and sad just to honour an appointment with his childhood friend who were just out to deflate his positive bubble makes him sick to the stomach.
He feels betrayed by his friends in the worse way possible.
Curtis stops by a gift shop and buys a bouquet of flowers and a bar of chocolate for his wife.
He arrives home a while later.

[/stextbox]Alicia is coiled up in the sofa when he enters.
He pulls her close and embraces her tightly.
He kisses her deeply.
Alicia looks at him with a worried expression on her face.
“Is everything alright, Curt?”
“Yea, everything is alright. I miss you the very second we are apart. I love you so much. My heart is overflowing with love for you.”
“I miss you more. I love you twice as much as you love me.”
Alicia and Curtis go for a long walk down the road to clear their fears and worries.
The two lovebirds hold hands as they walk, both grateful for the gift of life and the opportunity to be together.
