THE LEGEND OF DAYO
SEASON 1: THE EMERGENCE
CHAPTER 7
The Spirit Of Jhon Moziz
Neji Helen stared at that faceless apparition and took slow steps backward as she fought to still the pounding of her heart.
“Wh-who a-are you?” Neji asked in a very unsteady voice as her fear escalated.
“A wise and reasonable query indeed,” the voice said from within the folds of the hoodie. “As I hover here, right now, I must say I am the spirit of the Grand Oracle of Dayo, Jhon Moziz, whose body, alas, is trapped in the Rock of Redemption in the Dayo Square. Until the day I shall be reunited with my body, suffice to say I’m the spirit of Jhon Moziz, Grand Oracle of his Majesty, King Demi of Dayo.”
Neji Helen clasped her hands and wringed them, confusion reigning permanent on her face.
“So you’re a sort of spirit?” she asked in a tiny voice.

Neji Helen was still taking steps backward, although the strange man had stopped moving. Her back came up against the wall, and she uttered a tiny gasp, and then her eyes appraised the man in the black robe, and her heart took a heavy thud of fear when she saw that he had no feet!
Indeed, he was not even standing. He was hovering a few inches off the floor, and he glided instead of walking.
The strange man was standing on air, it seemed!
“What have you been doing to him?” Neji asked fearfully, gesturing at the young man on the bed. “And what do you want from me?”
“Aha, sensible and reasonable queries, maiden of the earth,” the voice said. “This young man is actually Prince Temidayo David Dayo of the Dayo Empire, a land far from here. Under great strife was he separated from his mother, at birth. He has now acquired the fine ripe age of eighteen. He needs to be equipped to return home to Dayo.”
“He’s a prince, of some empire?” Neji Helen asked with puckered brows, her confusion mounting. “This disabled man who is deaf, blind and mute? You’re saying he is a prince somewhere…of an empire?”
“Yes, indeed, my lady. He is Grand Prince Temidayo of the mighty Dayo Empire.”
Neji Helen shook her head numbly.
“He’s blind, mute and deaf!” she whispered softly. “He’s a hunchback, and can practically not do anything without somebody’s help. And you say he’s a prince of an empire?”
“Aha, reasonable and sensible queries, my maiden,” the strange man said. “In due time you shall be apprised of the unfortunate circumstances that led to our prince being here. Suffice to say, what you see now is a…it is a shell.”
“Oh, a shell!” Neji said, getting even more scared. “You mean…you mean he’s in a shell of sorts now?”
“Affirmative, maiden, affirmative,” the said faceless thing said. “He was put into this horrific cutaneous shell to save him from death when he was born. You see, I had to disguise him in this ugly shell to keep him safe from our enemies. However, it is time now for him to come out of the shell, but alas, although I have opened the hatches, over the days, he still cannot come out. That is why I need your help, maiden!”
Neji Helen was getting more and more confused, and more and more scared.
To the best of her knowledge, this strangely-robed man was telling her the blind young man was some sort of prince trapped inside his skin! He was now eighteen years old, time for him to come out of the shell.
And scary apparition in the black robe now needed Neji to help get out the hunchback from the shell he was trapped in.
It all sounded like a load of nonsense. It was ridiculous and absolutely comedic, making Neji wonder if she might still be asleep.
“No, Maiden, you’re here, now, not asleep!” the gentle deep voice said, startling Neji rather badly.
“What?” she exclaimed. “You can hear my thoughts too?”
“It happens, sometimes, when your thoughts are about the Royal Prince,” the strange man said. “Will you help me bring out the prince or not?”
Neji Helen licked her lips nervously.
“H-how ca-can I he-help?” she asked nervously.
“Ah, a kind query, and it gladdens my heart,” the spirit of Jhon Moziz said. “I need him to come out of that cutaneous crust! Truth is, it is urgent he comes out now, to begin his journey back to Dayo. Alas, he will need a quickening of the heart to break through! A feeling of rage, or anger, or pain can also help him break out of the cutaneous shell. However, what will work quickest is a feeling of passion, which you can provide!”
“Passion?” she asked, her eyes going wide with frantic shock. “What do you mean by ‘passion’?”
“Ah, I mean copulation, my dear lady!” the spirit of Jhon Moziz said gently. “A passionate copulation will quicken his heartbeats like no other and quickly melt the cutaneous shell, enabling him to emerge!”
Neji Helen gasped.
“Copulation?” she asked, almost choking.
“Yes,” the voicesaid gently, as if explaining something to a child. “I believe you earthlings call it…sexual intercourse? Some also call it fuck, or screw, yes, something gross like that, I gather.”
“Oh!” Neji exclaimed, suddenly getting angry and less afraid. “Oh, the cheek of it! You want me to sleep with him?”
“Sleep? No, not sleep, alas! I mean have sex with him, like you Earthlings do rather recklessly! You take his royal bar inside your earthling hole. Believe me, my maiden, he might look somewhat hideous now, but the real prince is of grand sight to the eyes, I assure you!” he said, his voice getting a little concerned. “If you can get through the initial repulsive moment of being intimate with him, I assure you that as soon as the cutaneous mask falls apart, you would enjoy the resultant copulative act very much indeed when the real handsome and grand Prince Temidayo is revealed!”
“Oh, shut up already, Mr. Jhon Moziz!” Neji cried, chagrined, her hands balling into tight little fists by her side. “I am not repulsed by the sight of this young man, no. Oh, okay, maybe just a tiny little bit. But I’m not one who goes around doing…copulative acts as a favour! Royal bar inside my earthling hole indeed…what’s the matter with you?”
“Perhaps you wanted me to say he should put his penis inside your vagina?” came the disapproving voice of the dark thing. “Or, as you people rather grossly put it…put his amu inside your otu? Believe me, Maiden of the Earth, these are gross things for me to say!”
“Oh, oh, you!” Neji Helen breathed out, more furious than she had ever been in her life, her body shaking so badly with fury that she could barely speak. “Oh, if I had not been so afraid of you, Mr. Jhon Moziz, I swear I would’ve smacked your face in to pulp for such rather irresponsible and reprehensible and absolutely offensive words!”
“Ah,” he said, and he sounded disappointed for a moment. “A price then? Would a bar of Dayo Gem be enough payment for you to copulate with the Grand Prince?”
Neji Helen was definitely furious now.
She took angry strides toward him and stopped close by, staring angrily into that dark space inside the hoodie.
“I’m not a prostitute, Mr. Jhon Moziz!” she hissed furiously. “I don’t sell my body! If I sleep with a man, any man – something I have not yet done – it would be because of love, and not pity, and I definitely won’t sleep with any man for all the bars of Dayo whatever in the world!”
“I find your reasoning absolutely unreasonable!” the spirit of Jhon Moziz stated, his voice still disappointed. “Because you have been with him, and taken care of him, and been kind to him, I covered your abode with the Cloud of Goodness! Surely, the tragedy of your facial skin which is now repaired, the agony of your mother’s limbs which I repaired, the repair of your brother’s malformed brain, and the success of your father’s trading should be enough kindness for you to copulate with the prince and bring him out of the cutaneous shell!”
Neji Helen shook with fury, and for a moment she felt like strangling this stranger.
“Thank you for the wonderful things this cloud of whatever has done for us!” she said angrily. “Yes, you’re right! My mother is healed, I’m healed, Uche is cleverer, and my father’s store is making amazing profits, yes! And I do thank you from the bottom of my heart if indeed this cloud you put on us made all these possible. But please, I don’t do sex to show appreciation! Surely, there might be something else I can do to help this young man apart from making love to him!”
The black-clad thing began to glide slowly back from her.
“I am indeed disappointed that you do not want to help me bring out the prince,’” he said quietly.
He was disappearing as he spoke, becoming fainter and fainter.
“No, please, don’t go, stay!” Neji Helen cried with frustration, and reached out blindly to hold him!
Her hands touched his robe, and she gripped, but the robe just folded inward, and she didn’t feel any body inside it!
It was empty!
There was nobody inside that robe!
The man had indeed been invisible!
As she gasped with shock, the door suddenly opened, and her father, looking absolutely concerned, came in with a lantern.
“Neji, dearest!” he said with concern. “What are you doing here? I thought I heard voices.”
Neji Helen collapsed weakly against her father as she fought her tears hard. It had not been a dream, no. It had been very real, and for a moment she felt so depressed and inadequate.
She felt very sad indeed.
Why did the man make her feel so guilty?
She was ready to help in any way she could, if indeed what she had heard was the truth, but she definitely could not lose her virginity for such a reason.
“I couldn’t sleep, father,” she said in a small voice. “I came here to check on him, and to pray for him.”
“My dearest, I understand, but it’s late,” Olusegun Osualale said gently. “Go and sleep. I think this young man is contented with what he has, my dear.”
As they went out of the room and walked along the corridor, Neji chanced a quick look back.
But the bright light was no longer in the room.
She sighed unhappily as a strong sense of sadness fell over her.
And of course, mingled in the myriad of feelings buffeting her was that uncomfortable feeling of guilt!
