“Temidayo David Dayo is out there right now, looking every inch like a king! He’s back with that widow below the hill! There’s no hint of any scratch on him! If anything, he looks even grander, even grander than his own father! And, to make it worse, he’s carrying King Demitayo Oliseh’s Swords of Destiny!”
“You lie!” Daniel Godwin roared and threw Emma to the ground, and his eyes were furious orbs of hatred.
Emma Tobi, in great pain, struggled to his feet and then pointed a trembling finger toward the entrance of the training ground.
“Stop acting like a damn fool, Daniel Godwin!” Emma Tobi screamed. “How the fuck would I lie to you? The Seer gave us one month to wait for the Chosen One, and now Temidayo shows up from thin air with swords that belonged to the first king of Dayo, looking every inch like one of the past kings of the Dayo Empire! A crowd has gathered to gawk at him, and every minute you wait is vital! Go out there and end this once and for all otherwise you’ll kiss your ambitions to be king goodbye!”

“So, he’s back with the witch and holding the swords of a ghost, huh?” Daniel Godwin said savagely. “Well, only one way to end this shit!”
Daniel Godwin leaned down, picked up his sword, and then he marched furiously toward the entrance. Emma Tobi and Ziloux Escobar Adeyeye, and also by the stunned warriors followed closely behind.
Rose Amaefule stood still with shattered glass and spilled berries around her feet, trembling uncontrollably, a stunned expression still pasted on her beautiful face.
After a while, she came to the realization that she was all alone on the training grounds, and then she moved slowly, like an automaton, and soon her legs gathered speed, and she began to run desperately toward the quarters of Prosper Freeman where a great crowd had already gathered.
She could hear Daniel Godwin bellowing furiously as she pushed her way to the front of the crowd.
Daniel was standing in front of the door with his sword drawn, and behind him at a safe distance from him were all the Keepers. Ziloux had also drawn his sword, and he was standing defensively behind Daniel.
Prosper Freeman was standing on the top step with Walexman and Mickey, and all of them had drawn their swords and looking on grimly.
“We end this here!” Daniel Godwin screamed. “Temidayo, this is the week the Seer gave! You come out and we decide this, or when I make my way inside that room, I will not spare your miserable life!”
“Then you will have to go through me, Daniel,” Prosper said grimly.
“And me!” Mickey shouted.
“Me too!” Walexman said calmly.
“So be it!” Daniel Godwin shouted, but just as he took a step forward the door opened behind Prosper, and Temidayo appeared in the doorway.
The crowd gasped audibly, and so did Rose Amaefule.
There he was; tall, broad, and incredibly handsome.
Rose noticed at a glance that this was a man, and no longer a boy. He seemed to glow, and royalty oozed out of him. His face was absolutely calm, but his eyes…goodness, his eyes!
They were not the eyes Rose remembered, no, not by a long shot. These were cold eyes that were filled with the blue heat of cold fury.
“This is my fight, Commander,” Temi said quietly as he put a hand on Prosper’s shoulder. “Sheath your sword.”
“Temi,” Prosper said, obviously scared. “Look…”
His voice trailed off because Temidayo was already descending the stairs and moving toward Daniel Godwin. Prosper’s gaze came down to Temi’s hands, and he gasped with sudden shock!
Temi was flexing the fingers of his left hand!
That was the characteristic trait of King Demi when something had angered him!

And as Prosper watched, it dawned on him that if it had not been the shock of thick dark hair on Temi’s head, he would have sworn that the man walking down the stairs was the old King!
Stunned, Prosper slowly sheathed his sword, and a moment later Walexman and Mickey did same.
“He’s…” Walexman breathed, stunned. “He’s his father!”
Temi’s eyes were not on Daniel, though. He was glaring furiously at Ziloux, and he didn’t break stride as he pointed at the man.
“And why are you in a Commander’s uniform?” he asked coldly.
“I’m the new Commander of the Army,” Ziloux said disdainfully.
There was fury in Temidayo’s eyes as he took a step nearer to Ziloux.
“There’s only one Commander,” he said softly. “Prosper Freeman.”
Ziloux laughed disdainfully.
“Sorry to disappoint you, Temi, but –” he began to speak, but it was as far as he got.
Temidayo backhanded Ziloux across the face, a harsh and abrasive sound that threw back the man’s head and cracked his lips.
“You will address me properly,” Temi said coldly.
Ziloux’s hand touched his lips and came away bloodied. Without thinking, he drew his sword with a cry of fury and rushed at Temidayo, his sword extended to run the prince through the heart.
Temidayo moved slightly, taking a simple sidestep that made the sword whisk harmlessly past his chest, and then he grabbed Ziloux by the neck and lifted him clean off the ground. It was an amazing feat of strength that made the onlookers gasp with sudden awe, for Ziloux was a stout man, and could have weighed rather heavily. With one movement Temi flung Ziloux down into the hard ground with such brute force that the ground shook.
Ziloux Adeyeye Escobar groaned with pain, horrified by the incredible strength he had just encountered.
Blood oozed out of his mouth and nose, and he stared up fearfully at the fury-filled face of Temidayo looking down at him.
“Remember this?” Temi asked softly, and then his right foot went up and he stomped furiously on Ziloux’s right knee, breaking the bone right through.
An animal screech of raw agony tore out of Ziloux Adeyeye’s throat as tears of extreme pain hotly fell down the sides of his face. Yes, indeed he remembered stomping down on Temi’s knee on the hills! Through the haze of his torture, he saw the bleak face of the boy above him, but he was no longer a boy. It was as if Ziloux was looking up at a young version of King Demi.
But how was this possible? What had happened within this short period to change this boy so, to make him so efficient and deadly?
He saw Temi pointing a finger down at his face.
“If I see you again in a Commander’s uniform, you’ll never see the light of day again,” Temi said softly. “Commander Prosper Freeman commands my army.”
With fear and panic, Ziloux nodded his head profusely, forgetting who he owed allegiance to in the midst of his great fear.
“Yes, my Lord Temidayo!” Ziloux blubbered. “I’ll take it off, I’ll take it off! Please, forgive me, please, my Lord, have some mercy for a poor, irresponsible warrior!”
That stunned the crowd!
Daniel Godwin saw the mounting awe and respect on the faces around him. Worse, he saw adoration, and he knew these people were rapidly changing their commitment to him to Temi, that they were seeing in him a liberator and a leader, hewn from the rock of kings, and doing what kings were supposed to do.
Daniel could not take that!
This couldn’t be happening. This nightmare must end at this very moment! Dear goodness, what had happened? This boy had been virtually dead when they left him! How had he escaped the White Kombas? But no, these were questions he would find answers to later. Right now, the only solution to the problem facing him was to kill his little brother fast and horribly!
These people were disrespecting him with their looks of worship and adoration for Temi.
Daniel would cut off that boy’s head and hold it up for them to see, and that would show them who the real Heir Apparent was!
“Your army indeed!” Daniel Godwin furiously, aware that people were staring at Temidayo with awe, and knowing he had to do something drastic to restore the balance of power.
He had been taken aback by the efficient and deadly manner the boy had handled Ziloux. The Temidayo they had left half-dead on the hills could not have lasted a minute with Ziloux.

But something had happened, yes, definitely. Even Godwin could see the difference. It was the same Temidayo physically, but something quite drastic had happened to him. For starters, his skin and features looked better defined, giving him an amazing handsome look.
The way he was bearing himself up was different too. His shoulders were up and proud, his head held high and arrogantly like the kings of Dayo. There was a confidence about him that defied contradiction, giving him a regal quality.
The biggest change Daniel Godwin could see, however, was the look in Temi’s eyes. Where they had once been filled with uncertainty and innocence some few weeks back, they now held a steel-like look that was both intimidating and powerful.
Daniel Godwin could not hide the fact that he knew he was running through a lot of minds at the moment: Temidayo was looking like a real king!
Daniel could not allow that to go on. This was it, the final showdown, and he knew that he had to force a fight on Temi and kill him otherwise his chances of being king would be nil.
Emma Tobi had been right, of course, and Daniel could see it now.
Temidayo, it seemed, had been reborn, as incredible as it seemed, and it was time for Daniel to send him back to the doldrums of hell, permanently.
“You have no right to issue orders, Temi!” Daniel continued furiously as he planted himself in front of Temi. “Ziloux took over from Freeman because the Keepers wanted it so. You can’t usurp the powers of the Keepers by overturning their decisions!”
Temi’s eyes glowed with fury as he returned the giant’s stare and a took a menacing step toward him.
“I have spoken,” he said in a dangerously soft voice filled with steel. “And my word is final.”
