EPISODE 2

LOCATION: KYLE STUDIOS B

The silence continues for a while. The room is dead as a cemetery.

LAWRENCE AKUTEY

(worried)

Hey, Jay you…

And James does something which surprises the audience. He laughs really hard. It looks like he is losing it!

It looks funny but it is not! There are pain, horror, and sorrow in his laughter. The people are frightened.

Slowly his laughter dies out and his face shows on the screen. One can see how worried his face looks. He takes a handkerchief from his pocket and wipes the tears in his eyes and smiles!

The people are worried. They see the pain, suffering and the hard life he has had.

JAMES NORTEY

Oh! Yes! I will clear all the doubts.

He pauses, looks at the camera absentmindedly and for the second time, he wipes the tears that form in his eyes.

JAMES NORTEY

(Sadly)

Oh! Mama, the world thinks I murdered you. Paps, the world thinks I’m a beast. Mama why didn’t you take me along. Oh, death!

That day…

FLASHBACK: JAMES’ NARRATION

LOCATION:  THE NORTEY’S RESIDENCE.

JAMES and his parent lived a happy life. They did not lack anything. Samuel Nortey, James’s father, was a rich businessman and a politician. They lived in a big mansion with everything available.

The compound, rooms, hall, and everything were to their taste. They lived a perfect life.

Because of Samuel’s status in the nation as a politician, he was used to threats from the opposition. He never really bothered about them. He had his personal bodyguards who protected him 24/7.

But that fateful Thursday changed the life of the little boy. JAMES was only 10 years old! Every afternoon after school, his father sends a car to pick him from school.

But that day, the car never came. He had to take a commercial vehicle back home!

JAMES NORTEY!

Mama! Mama! I’m home!! Paps!! I got a surprise for you!!

He walks through the main door that leads to the hall but finds none of his parent there! That’s not normal? He always finds his parents in the hall watching TV or discussing anytime he comes home but today it looks like the house is empty.

And he goes to his room and changes to normal house wear. He climbs the stairs that lead to his parent’s room shouting their name yet there’s no response!

For the first time in the boy’s life, he looks worried and he is afraid. He looks left and right on the corridor that leads to his parent’s room. He walks in fear!

Something strikes him as he stood at his parent’s door. On a normal day, the door would be locked!

But there, the door is not locked and it is half opened. And he can hear the sound of running water in his parent’s bathroom.

With fear, he pushes the door with full force! At first, he thought he was dreaming. His face is horrified! And the tears flow freely. For a minute he cannot move. He is rooted to the spot!

On the floor lies the lifeless body of his mother in cold blood! This is his first time of seeing a dead body. Quickly, he rushes to his mama’s dead body. He sits on the floor and holds the body of his mama in his arms!

Her eyes are not closed! And it looks like she sees his son carrying her in his arms! James is covered with the blood of his mama.

JAMES NORTEY

(Horrified) 

Noo! Mama! Mama! Please No! Nooo! No! No! Don’t leave me, Mama. Pleaaaaaaase! Wake up, mama! Wake up! No, you can’t die Mama! I need you, Mama! Please wake up!

His tears flow freely as he speaks to his mama’s lifeless body. He cannot see anywhere. His heart is broken and he is shuttered. He cannot leave his dead mama alone and he sits on the floor and cries his heart out!

PRESENT DAY

LOCATION: KYLE TV STUDIO B.

The room is quiet. The people are shocked! James takes his hankie and wipes the tears in his eyes.

Some of the people are crying! Others take their hankie and wipe the tears that form in their eyes!

Victoria, James’s wife is crying really hard and she hugs her kids. Out there on the streets, others shake their heads in pain, trying to understand and feel his pain. But he alone knows that pain. He alone has endured it.

The room is quiet once again. The cameras roll and  LAWRENCE AKUTEY’S face is seen on the screen. His face is sad and it looks like his eyes are swollen.

LAWRENCE AKUTEY

(Sadly)

That’s a sad one Jay! Your story is really sad. This is really bad. Jay, what about your dad? Where was he? Was he dead too?

The camera settles on James and his eyes are closed. But then the tears flow and his body is shaking. For a minute he cannot speak!

The production team signalled to LAWRENCE AKUTEY to take a commercial break. It looks really hard for JAMES NORTEY this time around.

LAWRENCE AKUTEY

Ladies and Gentlemen, we’ll take a commercial break and when we come back, we will continue. Stay tuned.
