CHAPTER 4
But Daniel was seeing all that far too late when he was prone on the floor with a shattered jaw and broken ribs, arm, and thigh, and could not do anything to help himself.
And so, for the first time in his life, tears spilled down the sides of his eyes as he experienced the horror of impending death. A weak sound emerged from his shattered mouth, and Daniel knew that he was screaming feebly with fear.
The onlookers watched, absolutely stunned with the speed of Temidayo who had completely reduced the giant Daniel Godwin to a pulp within a simple minute!
No one was in any doubt that Daniel’s skull would be crushed if Temi stepped on it. Many heard the pitiful sounds coming from Daniel’s throat, and one of them Emma Toby, whose heart beat painfully as he realized that in going against Temidayo, he had sealed his own fate in the future kingdom of Dayo.
And then, at the very last moment, Temi shifted his foot, and it landed on the side of Daniel’s head, breaking the ground and leaving a deep foot imprint!
The sheer power of a man whose stamp could break the earth and form hole on hardened ground dawned on all of them as Temi slowly removed his foot from the hole and looked down at the weeping Daniel Godwin.
He turned his head and glared at the Keepers…and then an amazing thing happened.
Ayaka Nsugbe looked at the glowering Temidayo, and slowly he dropped down to his right knee and placed his hands on his left knee and slowly lowered his head.

And then there was a flurry of movements as the people of the Haven dropped to their knees, one at a time, and then in increasing numbers.
Prosper stood on the steps with a huge grin on his face and tears washing down his face and then he also dropped to his knee.
Finally, a dismayed Temidayo was the only one standing with a dying Daniel Godwin at his feet.
“Get up, all of you!” Temidayo said. “This is not the time for that. There is something far important to do. Where is Sage Agu Samuel? Come and heal Daniel Godwin now.”
Prosper got to his feet first and descended the steps to stand beside Temdidayo.
“They imprisoned Sage Agu and Shemen Persis for abusing their Oaths when they helped you out,” he said calmly.
“For helping the heir of Dayo they were imprisoned?” Temi asked darkly, his eyes fixed on the suddenly cowed Ayaka Nsugbe.
“Yes, my Lord,” Prosper said.
“Release them immediately, Commander,” Temidayo said. “Let the Sage attend to Daniel. I don’t want him dead.”
“It shall be done,” Prosper said as he looked triumphantly at the Keepers.
And that was when Temi saw Rose Amaefule for the very first time. She looked so beautiful standing there with her lips trembling and tears of shame falling down her face. As he glared at her with pure hatred and fury, she raised her trembling hands to her chest and crossed them across her heart in a gesture of remorse and pain.
Temi’s eyes did not soften as he turned from her and mounted the steps. He could see the stunned incredulity and sheer respect in the eyes of Walexman and Mickey King as he passed them and opened the door.

Nneka Okez turned from the window where she had been standing and watching. There were tears on her face and her lips were parted. In the depths of her eyes was the fear that had gripped her when she saw the giant Daniel Godwin bearing down on Temi.
“I was afraid for you,” she whispered, and although she brushed tears from her eyes, they still spilled down her tears.
Temi glared at her with a fierce gaze.
“You don’t have to fear for me in a fight anymore, Nek,” he said gently. “Fear rather for my opponent.”
“I can see that, my Lord,” she whispered and waited as he walked toward her.
She was shivering when he took her in his arms. She lifted her face, and when their lips met, she kissed him the fiercest, putting a hand behind his head and kissing him fiercely, hungrily, thirstily as if she would never let him go again.

And when the door opened and Rose Amaefule came in with tears in her eyes, meaning to apologize for her wicked act of betrayal that had almost taken the prince’s life, she saw him in this passionate kiss.
She had not been aware that Temi had come to the Haven with the widow of the valley. And as she watched them in this close embrace, kissing so passionately, she felt a horrible stab of pain in her heart that simply took her breath away.
Her hand gripped the knob of the door tightly as her knees shook. For a moment – a very brief moment – she felt like grabbing a knife and rushing to them to separate them and sticking that woman in the heart.
She went out and closed the door, standing for several moments still holding the knob and shaking slowly.
Finally, when she turned and headed down the steps, there was a doomed look on her face. She was racked with a terrible feeling that was as horrible as it was shocking and unexpected.
She knew, as she had watched the brutal fight, that her heart had been with Temidayo, and she had almost wished his foot had come down on the head of Daniel Godwin!
It was not ambition anymore, or games anymore!
She knew she was happy, extremely so, that Temidayo had survived and not died as a result of her betrayal. That was expected because she had bitterly regretted that act, unable to forget Temi’s eyes as he had looked at her that day.
But now, she was faced with an alien feeling she could make no tail or sense of. She did not understand the bitter pain in her heart, the sudden feeling of sheer helplessness and a sense of doom when she saw Temi kissing that widow.
Suddenly, in a horrible sort of way, Rose Amaefule was very afraid.
And extremely unhappy.
