CHAPTER 16
Perhaps, the most difficult thing he had ever done was saying goodbye to Nneka just a couple of days after sharing that wonderful hour with her.
Dressed in black clothes with a huge hoodie over his head, he stood gazing down at her lovely face in her room early that morning.
She gazed up at him with tears bubbling in her eyes.
“Temi, my love,” she whispered as she put her arms around his waist. “Come back to me soon.”
“I don’t expect to be gone for long, my love,” Temi said with a reassuring smile. “I’m just going with Commander Freeman and Daniel Godwin to see a man in Aradise. Shouldn’t take more than a couple of days.”
“Two days without you are two days without air,” she said, and then she kissed him desperately.
“Simmer for me, Nek,” he whispered against her lips. “I’ll come and put out that fire in a couple of days.”
When he walked out his two companions were waiting for him.
They nodded grimly, and the three of them walked briskly to the Conference Room where all the Keepers and the warriors were assembled.
Shemen Persis walked toward Temi with a sad smile on her face as she took in his calm expression under the hood.
She put her hands on his upper arms and looked fondly at him.
“My prince becomes a man,” she said. “May the Creator go with you.”

She giggled and nodded once.
“You’re always welcome back, my Lord,” she whispered.
He smiled sadly.
“Alas, my heart, body, and soul are for one woman now,” he said and hugged her briefly.
When he turned Sage Agu Samuel put his arms around him and hugged him warmly.
“The boy becomes the prince of destiny,” he whispered quaveringly. “Your real mission begins today. Go, and may the Creator guide you.”
Temi nodded and sighed with passion.
“We have to move now, my Lord,” Daniel Godwin said.
Temi fell into step with him, and Prosper Freeman followed as they entered the luxurious royal carriage. Walexman jumped onto the driver’s seat, gathered the reins, and whipped the horses into motion.
The carriage rolled, and soon they came out of the secret passage into the trees, and soon they were speeding toward the heart of Aradise.
“Destiny, little brother,” Daniel Godwin said as he leaned across and squeezed Temi’s hand. “Your training ends, and your destiny begins. My life is yours, at your disposal from this very moment.”
“And so is mine,” Commander Freeman said bleakly. “I failed your father, my Lord. I aim to redeem myself, with my life, if necessary. That I pledge to you.”
“Gentlemen, I appreciate you,” Temi said calmly. “For Dayo, my journey begins.”

They stayed on the outskirts of Aradise this time, at a lodge called The Comfort, ran by a homely woman called Precious Obed. They were given three rooms on the second floor. It was decided that Temi should wait whilst Daniel, Prosper and Walexman made subtle inquiries around Aradise for the whereabouts of the mysterious Emmanuel Suncity the Butcher.
They went out on the very first day of their arrival. They visited every shady spot and spent money on informants, but they could not unearth any positive information about the man’s whereabouts.
On the second day, they went out very early.

Temi felt very bored indeed by the inactivity as he waited for their return. With Precious Obed insisting on feeding him something every couple of hours, he was increasingly getting tired of waiting. In the gathering dusk of the second day, he put on his dark clothes and the huge hoodie. He descended downstairs, keeping his face hidden, and went outside. Precious Obed chased him, enquiring breathlessly where he was going.
He smiled and informed her he was just going for a walk.
He walked through the streets of Aradise, enjoying the sights of city life, something quite different from what he was used to inside the Haven. Temi was passing a store when a young girl suddenly came out through the doorway screaming frantically. She was being chased by two burly men. Her face was filled with terror as she gazed at Temi with a blatant plea. Other men who were around looked the other way as she called on them to help her. One of the burly men caught up with her and slapped her hard, causing her to fall heavily to the ground.
Temi’s fury flared at the sight of such huge men beating a poor defenseless girl!
“Hey, stop that!” he said, quickening his steps.
The girl got up from the ground and began to run desperately.
The two men followed at a fast pace.
Scared of what they might do to her, Temi also broke into a run as he chased them.
He was unaware, in his desperation to help a damsel in distress, that they were taking him away farther from the inner hub of the town, and that they had entered a more secluded, dangerous part of the city. It occurred to him suddenly that Aradise was a town of peace where no one was allowed to engage in violence, where people would never attack another being for fear of breaking the law and being arrested by the dreaded Judges of Aradise.
But these men had attacked the lady in broad daylight!
Temidayo came to a stop suddenly!
This was not right…it might be a trap!

And that was when he realized that he was lost and that they had led him to a deserted part of the town. The dusty streets here were deserted, and the doors along the streets were all shut. The girl had stopped running, and so had her pursuers. They had turned to face Temi whose eyes narrowed suddenly when three other men dressed in dark clothes emerged from around the corner, and when he looked behind him three more men had appeared, blocking the way out of the stretch of street.
They had worked it nicely and cornered him brilliantly.
He could not forgive himself because of his naivety. Like a fool, he had rushed into the trap without pausing to analyse the factors and the evidence given him. This was definitely not good enough for the Prince of Dayo.
That he could be so lied to, and his innocence exploited by people he did not know, and his weakness so exposed, made the young prince so furious that his left hand began to flex rapidly…clench, unclench, clench, unclench!
Eight men…three behind him, five in front of him, and suddenly they drew long swords from their scabbards and began to move relentlessly toward him.
“Tasan!” the ancient attack command came through Temidayo’s lips as he raised his head slowly and fixed the attackers with a furious stare from inside the hood!
