CHAPTER 10
Temi looked at her darkly but made no response.
He just walked past her without a backward glance. Rose took a deep breath, brushed her tears from her eyes, and then she began to run after him. She passed him without stopping and kept on running until she got to the living room of the palace.
It was late now, and almost everybody was asleep, but Prosper Freeman, Jhon Moziz, Emmanuel Suncity and Queen Kelly Philip were still sitting anxiously in the deep chairs.
When they saw Rose they got to their feet with sudden cries of alarm.
“What happened, my daughter?” Queen Kelly asked with deep shock, quite stumped by the distressed look on the face of the girl; and she was scared, very scared, of the fact that Rose no longer looked like Neji Helen.
Rose held out the Mimic Artefact.
“It came off…when we were trying to make love!” she whispered.
“Liar!” Emmanuel Suncity shouted and got to his feet, his face dark with fury. “No one, no matter how strong, will be able to take off a Mimic Artefact except the wearer! Stop lying, girl, before I cut off your damn head where you stand!”
“Emma!” Prosper Freeman growled, obviously agitated a great deal. “Let her speak!”
Rose closed her eyes briefly and then, with lips trembling, she dropped the Mimic Artefact on the floor.
“Yes, I took it off,” she said in a lost voice. “I tore it off, actually! I was about to lose my virginity to a man I love, a man who thought I was some other woman. My heart couldn’t take it!”
“Oh, you wretched soul!” Suncity shouted angrily. “What the hell have you done? We shouldn’t have trusted you, damn you to hell!”
“Emma, damn it, be calm!” Prosper said.

“Put that away, Emma!” Queen Kelly snapped angrily.
“Step aside, Your Majesty!” Suncity said grimly. “That girl is useless and can’t be trusted with anything! After her damn traitorous acts, she still has the nerve to bungle the only thing we trusted her with? God, let me spill her blood right here on this palace floor!”
“Stop the nonsense this instant, Emma!” Prosper said grimly as he deftly pulled the man’s hand back and pulled the deadly knife from his hand.
“We’re not barbaric, Emma!” Queen Kelly Philip said. “And of course, she speaks the truth! You’re not a woman so you wouldn’t know what she is talking about! She had every right to deny sleeping with my son if she didn’t feel like it! That should tell you she is not some kind of a harlot!”
And at that precise moment, Temidayo appeared in the hall on his way out and looked at them with dark, unfathomable eyes.
“Ah, a congress of betrayers,” he said grimly with a bleak smile. “Meeting to take stock of the deeds of their evil hearts!”
“Temi!” his mother cried with compassion, deeply hurt by his words. “Son, how can you speak thus of me?”
“Because you’re a mother and you should’ve stopped this before it hurt the very soul within me like this!” he hissed coldly at her. “These men, they came up with this dastardly plan to hurt me, to shatter every bit of my heart. They are ruthless men, or yes, and I expected that of them! They have absolutely no qualms when it comes to committing the most atrocious and insane acts for their beloved Dayo! But you, mother, you! I didn’t expect this from you!”
“And you won’t speak in such base language to the Queen of Dayo in my presence, Temi!” Prosper Freeman said as he stepped forward angrily.

In a flash, one of the Swords of Destiny jumped into Temi’s left hand, and with a blinding movement, he pressed the tip against the base of Prosper’s throat, nipping the skin and sending a drop of blood on the tip of the sword.
“Don’t give me a reason to kill you, Commander!” Temi said bitterly. “I trusted you, and treated you as I would treat a father! But of course there would never be honour in the hearts of men who would do anything for their empire, would there?”
“My Lord, please, be calm,” Jhon Moziz said softly. “Put all the blame on me. Indeed, I went to Earth to bring you Neji Helen, but alas, she was married to the prince of the village and she was with child.”
Temi turned his dark eyes on the Grand Oracle.
“I can see it all clearly now,” he said painfully. “She was not available to come to me, and so you thought it best to betray me like this, convincing Suncity to make another artefact to confuse me! You’re indeed such damn conniving evil brute, Grand Oracle, and of course, you found the right kind of evil minds such as these to do your bidding! Such a fine collection of back-stabbing betrayers I find around me! Snakes that stab my heel when I’m already down!”
Even as the tears fell down Queen Kelly’s face, she stepped up to her son and hit him sharply across the right cheek.
The slap startled Temidayo, and he looked at his mother with his face screwed out with raw agony. The physical slap had not hurt him, no, but the fact that she could act on it seared him to the very bone.
The Queen looked at her son painfully and her tears fell.
“I know you’re sorely hurt, my son. And I know how bitter you are. I’m indeed so sorry to see you so hurt, Temi. But you have no right to insult them, Temi, my son!” she whispered painfully. “You would have died if these men had not loved you! The Grand Oracle took you on even when you still had your umbilical cord attached to your belly! He took care of you! Prosper carried you away, and he had given you nothing but devotion and love! You will show them some respect!”
“You will side with them, won’t you, mother?” Temi asked softly as he withdrew his sword from Prosper’s neck and released it, and the sword sailed into the scabbard.
“Temi, my son, you’re hurting me now,” Queen Kelly whispered as tears fell down her eyes. “You’re the most precious jewel to me, Temi. I stayed in misery and torture, fighting for the day to see my son again. If I have hurt you, forgive me, but don’t break your mother’s heart, I beg of you. I can’t take it!”
“They brought the traitor to my bed disguised as the love of my life, and you will side with them?” Temi continued, and tears came to his own eyes.
“I love you, Temi, as I will never love any other, aside from your father!” the Queen cried passionately as she put her hands on his shoulders. “Yes, you have had a lousy life! You never received the childhood of an ordinary prince. You have had no joys in your life! Yes, my son, you were born in strife, and you have lived in strife!

That is your destiny, my son! We’re living in a land filled with millions of people who have turned to stone! Your father was given charge over them, but evil triumphed! Dayo must survive, my son or Earth will die. It pains me that you have to go through this, but we had no other option! We were running out of time, and we did what we had to do to make you realize that millions and millions of lives are depending on you, my son!”
“You have done well, mother!” Temi said painfully as he stepped away from her hands. “You want your Empire restored, even if it will mean my death? So shall it be!”
“David!” Queen Kelly Philip cried and clutched at her heart. “You just hurt your mother’s heart, son! You just killed the very soul within my heart.”
Temi turned from her and began to walk away without a backward glance, but his tears of misery and pain stained his cheeks and burned deep into the core nerves of his heart.
They looked at him with strong emotions of pain on their faces, but no one dared touch him or speak to him as he went outside the main doors of the palace and saw some of the warriors standing guard.
“Give me a horse,” Temi said.
Rose saw one of the female warriors standing at the far end of the palace entrance, and she ran to her side.
“Give me your uniform, warrior!” she demanded fiercely.
“Why?” the girl enquired, and Rose struck her suddenly on the jaw, dropping her.
Quickly, she began to unbutton the unconscious girl’s uniform. Already she could see Temi mounting a stout horse.
“You can’t leave like this, my Lord!” Jhon Moziz said anxiously and with an uncharacteristic painful note in his voice. “It is too dark! No one knows the dangers on the other side of the wall! You mother is shattered. We’re all shattered, Temi. You can’t leave us this way! We don’t know what is going to happen to you, son!”
“Do you care?” Temi hissed at him wrathfully, painfully.
“I care, my Lord!” Jhon Moziz said in a choked voice, and uncharacteristically, tears suddenly came to his eyes. “I served your father, Temi, when he was only a boy! With you, I raised and took care of you from the moment you were born. You will not believe this, but I love you more than I loved your father, and that is saying something.”
“Stop your lies!” Temi shouted angrily. “You want your damn Empire back? You will get it back! I’m going to get it back for you, Grand Oracle. But damn it, just stop your lies! I hate liars!”
He spun the horse around and hit its sides with his heels, sending it off into a wild gallop.
Rose was in her trousers and was pulling on the heavy boots.
She picked up the vests and shirt without putting them on, grabbed the sword, and jumped on the back of a horse with her breasts still bare.
She galloped furiously after the prince.
Prosper Freeman saw her at the last minute and tried to hold the reins, but she shot past him and galloped on wildly.
“Rose, come back, you silly girl!” Prosper cried with anxiety. “You can’t go to the White Lands, Rose! Only royal blood can cross from here to the White Lands and come back alive! The moment you enter, you can’t come back, girl! You will die inside there if you go, Rosie!”
Rose paid no heed!

She galloped fast after Temi.
“This boy drives me crazy!” Jhon Moziz said, and then he suddenly jumped into the air, sailed above the palace, and whisked furiously after Temidayo and the girl.
When he got to the wall of the White Lands he began to descend just as he saw Temidayo holding the hilt of the Royal DayoSword and turning it anti-clockwise, opening the door in the great wall!
“Wait, Temi, wait!” Jhon Moziz shouted. “Not like this! Let me say goodbye and pray for you, my son!”
But Temi had already been sucked through the door of the White Lands, and the door began to close, but Rose rode furiously into the narrow doorway, and was also sucked into the void!
Only the two horses were left standing!
The door spun close suddenly, and when Jhon Moziz dropped down, he saw only a blank wall!
Temidayo and Rose had entered the White Lands!
They were gone!
“May the Creator keep you, and guard you, and guide you, and bring you back safely, my son,” he murmured painfully.
