THAT HARM RELATIONSHIPS
The Author
A LOVE SHOP FEATURE
Our life thrives on our interactions, connections, contacts and association with others. These yield bonds that can be good or bad.
Good relationships just don’t happen. It takes a lot of work. It takes Love, Commitment and Compromise to have a good relationship. And all these depends on our attitude.
Â
Let us look at some attitudes that can harm a very beautiful relationship be it a romantic or social relationship.
Â
Bitterness
When you allow past hurts and disappointments to make you angry. If not checked it will show in the way you talk or relate with people giving off negative energy. And no one would want to be in the company of people with negative energy.
Excessive criticism
Criticism is usually the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes of another person. Sometimes, the way we communicate our displeasure can be very overbearing and when this happens all the time, your relationship can just go down the drain.
Example, a husband walks home late from work. Which of the two statements below will generate into an argument?
Â
- You come home late again, you are really insensitive, do you know that?
- Oh honey, I really get worried when you don’t come home on time!
Â
Unforgiving (Boot for Boot attitude)
When one becomes very unforgiving in a relationship and always tries to get even. It sends off the signal that your partner is not who you want to be with. Its like you expect him to be perfect and no man is perfect.
Lack of Trust
When one has a problem trusting the partner even though they have not done anything to incur the mistrust. This is usually carried over from past experiences and broken relationships.
Lack of communication
When you coil into your shell and fail to open up to your partner maybe because of something he did in the past. It is always good to let your hurts and disappointments known so that the relationship can grow.
Selfishness
The me, myself and I attitude. When you seek out only your interests.
Disrespectful
When you do or say things to put the other person down in the eyes of society. Eg talking about his weaknesses to others, openly flirting with the opposite sex in his presence.
Nagging
When one is constantly harassing the partner to do something.
Eg. Why can’t you just put your dirty clothes in the laundry basket?
Laziness
When one is unwilling to work or use energy. Someone who loves to idle about without lifting a finger constantly.
Lack of Commitment
When one fails or refuses to commit to a partner. Making a commitment involves dedicating oneself to someone. Making him or her your priority and making sure all his needs are catered for as much as it is possible. When you commit, you make it work no matter the obstacles you encounter.
Ingrate
When one is never grateful for anything done for him or her.
Lack of Intimacy (Marriage)
When the feeling of closeness between two people which is usually expressed through lovemaking and the quality of time spent together are missing, a marital relationship can suffer greatly. Intimacy builds over time as you connect with someone and this in turn makes you grow to care about each other deeply.
Can you think of the things that can make a relationship better and enjoyable?
