EPISODE 9
The service ended at nine o’clock.
Boat tried to be inconspicuous by melting into the background, but people kept staring at him with mystified looks, and he knew that slowly what had happened inside the store was making the rounds.
People had heard about his supposed premonition of the accident, and now they were regarding him with various personal thoughts and feelings. That was not good enough. He had wanted to lay low, unnoticed, but sometimes situations arose and there was nothing else to do. What had happened in the store that day was a perfect example.
He knew he had to move out of the town for a while, but he would keep the house. He liked Apaso, and he might return eventually to its serene quietness.
Boat saw that Esi and her father were headed his way with wide smiles.
Joe Eduafo shook his hand hard with a broad smile.
“Glad to see you here, Yaw,” he said with genuine happiness. “This is quite a surprise. Why didn’t you inform me this afternoon that you would be dropping in? Come, let me introduce you to the pastors. You might like our new pastor. Quite a remarkable man, Pastor Swallows.”
Boat smiled and nodded.
“Actually, I came to see Tim,” he said. “He’s an old acquaintance.”
“Oh, really!” Joe Eduafo exclaimed with surprise. “Oh, how grand! I didn’t know that!”
“Glad to see you, Yaw,” Esi said as she took his hand, sidling up too close to him so that her firm breasts brushed his arm, sending jolts of restrained passion through him. “Should I wait for you? The night is still young, Yaw, and I can show you the stream. Quite a wonderful place. You’ll like it.”
Boat smiled lamely at her.
“Maybe later, Esi,” he said in a strained voice. “Right now, I have something to discuss with Pastor Swallows.”
“Awww, shame!” Esi said and giggled.
“Come on, Esi dear, let the man have some peace,” her father said and laughed. “Come on, let’s see your mother before she goes to the pastor’s Manse.”
“I’ll see you later, Yaw,” Esi whispered with a secret smile at Boat, and as she followed her father she passed quite close to Yaw Boat, and her right hand snaked out and touched his loins, and she rubbed her hand gently on his manhood, making him catch his breath as the most insane desire ripped through him.
He could barely breathe because for an instant he felt like grabbing Esi and ripping off her clothes right there in the church and making love to her.
“You piece of evil dung, Swallows!” Boat whispered fiercely to himself. “What the hell have you done to me?”
He looked around desperately, and saw that the church was emptying very fast.
He saw Pastor Tim Swallows at the far end of the room, opening a door behind the pulpit. His hand was on the shoulders of Mrs. Sisi Eduafo, and he paused in the doorway and smiled once again at Boat before passing through the door.
Boat waited, his eyes hard now.
There was no doubt about it now. He knew now that the pastor had been expecting him, incredible as it might seem!
But how…and why?
Demons fled from him…and were scared of him!
But this man was expecting him, behaving as if he was even enjoying the whole game! Why…what was going on?
The church was empty now.
He was all alone, and he knew he had to go through that door, but somehow he was suddenly reluctant. It was not as if he was scared, no, far from that. He was scared of no demon, but he was suddenly uneasy about the confidence of Swallows, and the fact that an innocent victim in the person of Mrs. Esi Eduafo was between them.
Yaw Boat took a deep breath and began to walk toward that door.
“Yea, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I feareth no evil, for thou art with me, my LORD!” Boat prayed as he reached for the handle of the door, pushed it down, and opened it.
He found himself in a long corridor.
There was an open door at the end of the corridor. On the floor of the corridor were the clothes of Mrs. Sisi Eduafo, and the robes of Pastor Swallows.
The pastor appeared in the doorway at the end of the corridor. He was wearing only his singlet and his white briefs. He smiled a crooked, terrible smile as he slowly removed his singlet.
His eyes blazed a terrible red, and as he opened his mouth and chuckled, Boat saw that in his mouth was the beating forked tongue and the upper fangs of a deadly snake!
“Come to me, Unblind!” he hissed and then he ripped off his briefs.
He was now standing naked with a smirk on his snake-like face.
Yaw Boat took two steps into the room, and then the door slammed shut behind him with brute force, and at the same time all the lights went out!
He was in pitch darkness now!
And he heard them!
Ghostly sounds emanated from the darkness, and he felt a cold mist swirling all around him! The air was now filled with a gross scent, a terrible sewer-like stench like a thousand rotting bodies!
Yaw Boat gagged, and he felt like throwing up. They were whispering all around him in their scary voices, and he could feel their hands swirling around his face, around his ankles, caressing him with death!
Suddenly, there was a glow above him, and when he looked up he saw a rotten woman on the ceiling! She was naked, and half of her head was rotten, and her mouth was wide with teeth-) like knives, and a single eye of hers glowed!
A sudden mass that looked like a wriggling anaconda shot from her mouth, coming straight for Yaw Boat!
The fear was sudden and unbidden, and for a wild moment Boat was rendered still like a statue as the evil reigned supreme around him.
“And by His scribes am I rendered supreme over evil!” Yaw Boat said with sudden anger as he shook himself from the evil permeating him. “Depart from me into the deep, in the name of Jesus, you fucking assholes!”
He glowed brilliantly, and he heard them screeching as they retreated with fear, and the lights came back on!
Yaw Boat felt a slithering mass around his legs, and when he looked down he saw the floor littered with about twenty poisonous snakes as large as his thigh, and they were around his legs, seeking to strike him.
“You bloody well can’t touch God’s anointed!” Yaw Boat whispered. “Burn, serpents from hell!”
The floor was suddenly filled with a terrible blue lightning-type fire that zapped the serpents, and Yaw Boat barely looked down as he walked through them, his fury now at a roiling boiling apex by the time he got to the end of the corridor and threw open the door.
It was a huge room, a kind of library.
There were shelves of books, a huge black mahogany desk, a swivel chair, rugs, biblical paintings on the wall and even a small conference area. Just inside the room, near the desk, Mrs. Sisi Eduafo was on her knees, totally naked.
Pastor Tim Swallows was also naked, and he was standing in front of the woman with his erect organ in her mouth.
The elderly woman had tears streaming down her face as she gagged on the man’s erection, sucking on him with reluctance. It was a most pitiful sight…she evidently hated what she was doing, but she had no control over her actions whatsoever.
Tim Swallows looked at Boat and smiled that deadly snake-smile again.
“Oh, hello!” he said, his face contorted with passion, holding up a hand. “Glad you could join us, Unblind! I’ll be done in a minute, and then we shall dally, okay?”
He was moving his waist faster, pushing himself fiercely into the woman’s mouth now, making her gag horribly.
“You dirty skunk!” Yaw Boat said with disgusted fury and moved toward Tim Swallows.
The pastor shrieked suddenly and held up his right hand!
His hand suddenly shrivelled and the fingers elongated and gnarled, the fingers becoming long and sharp like knives.
“I told you to wait, Unblind!” he boomed in a loud, reverberating voice that slammed into Boat’s ears like a thousand jet planes taking off at the same time!
Tim Swallow’s eyes were suddenly rectangular orbs of red, and his jaw opened wide, almost touching his chest, as the demon in him began to manifest.
He flung his arm outward, and Sisi Eduafo shot into the air and slammed sickeningly into the ceiling, and remained pasted there!
Her back was against the ceiling, and her grey hair was hanging listlessly, just like her sagging breasts which were pointing downward. Her arms and legs were spread, and she was flat against the ceiling like that.
“You tempt me, fool, and I’ll rip her intestines out!” the Swallows-demon screeched.
“You can’t distort the righteous ways of the Lord, demon!” Boat hissed with fury as he raised a hand. “Come down here, woman, in the name of Jesus!”
Mrs. Sisi Eduafo began to glow, and then she fell from the ceiling.
Boat was aware of Tim Swallows screaming, but he paid no heed.
He caught Mrs. Eduafo in his arms and set her down gently.
She was staring at him now, her eyes wide with terror, but she was still glowing, much to Boat’s relief.
“Yaw!” she cried hoarsely. “I’m afraid, Yaw! Please help me!”
“You’re okay now,” Yaw Boat said and shoved her toward the door gently. “Get out. Your clothes are in the corridor. Get dressed and go home.”
The terrified woman stumbled blindly towards the door and went out into the corridor.
Boat whirled round and stared at Tim Swallows, and then he had to steel himself against what he saw.
Tim Swallows was changing as the demon in him struggled to manifest.
From his chest upwards he was still a man, but below that his body had changed into a gigantic mass of a scary anaconda, wriggling and turning around rather terribly.
Half of his face was that of an anaconda, and half was a man.
His right hand was holding a dark object.
“Do you know what this is, Unblind?” he hissed, his forked tongue lashing out angrily. “I prepared something nice for you, boy! Something really funky with your hair and skin inside the razor I found in your room! Want to say hello to something funky?”
He suddenly threw what he was holding.
It seemed like white powder, but the moment they sprinkled on Boat he felt a sudden, incredible terror! The powder changed to a lot of flapping white crows with deadly talons. They cowed in maddened frenzy as they attacked Yaw Boat, flapping against his face, tearing painfully into him, their evil beaks digging into him and tearing away like some crazed woodpeckers!
Yaw Boat was horrified!
He wasn’t glowing!
Dear Lord, why? What was happening?
Why, Lord?
They flapped their wings, digging into him, tearing, cutting, hurting!
Yaw Boat felt the blood pouring out of a million places on his body!
Tim Swallows was bellowing with glee as he suddenly moved forward, and the anaconda that was his body lashed out at Yaw Boat, curling around his body and choking him so tightly that Boat could not breathe!
“Come with me, Unblind!” Tim Swallows screamed. “Come with me! Let me show you hell!”
And he crashed through a window, dragging Yaw Boat with him, and then Boat was lifted up and he found himself soaring through the air!
He was filled with fear, and he could barely form a coherent thought!
He found himself falling, and a moment later his body slammed to the ground, knocking the air out of him! Boat moaned with pain and turned on his stomach as he felt the crows coming at him again! They hit, tore, shredded his skin, and then they took off! The pain was excruciating as they slowly laid the skin on his back bare.
Yaw Boat could not even think!
He knew death was knocking on his door!
Suddenly, the crows were gone, and Boat was lying on wet grass, almost unconscious. He felt the blood pouring out of him, and knew he could die from loss of blood in a moment.
Painfully, laboriously, he raised himself into a kneeling position and looked around.
He was in a cemetery!
Funky Grounds come to life…again!
