UNTIL YOU
EPISODE 10
When Naa woke up the next morning, she found herself alone on the big bed and smiled broadly.
Somehow, she was enjoying the helplessness Nii was exhibiting. In a macabre sort of way, it felt good to see him in suffering too. She was grateful he got to taste what she had been forced to eat all through the years with his flings and hangouts with his numerous girlfriends.
Nii, on the other hand, had done a lot of thinking through the night and had realized what Naa might have gone through with his indiscretions. He liked her a lot but could it be true that he found other women attractive because he was not truly in love with her?Â
If it wasn’t love, why did the thought of losing her affect him so much, and yet when these girls came on to him, he gave in most of the time?
Â
He admitted he had been the dominant one in the relationship. It was always him, his friends, his plans, his time, and nothing else.
He had then decided to balance things a bit to accommodate Naa’s plans, needs, and pastimes. He was going to be a better man for her.
Indeed, he had noticed how relaxed she had been when the imbecile dropped her off and tried in every way to make her feel appreciated. That was something Nii had not done in a long time and knew that Naa was right; their relationship had lost its spark mostly because he was always thinking of himself.
He had gotten out of bed early that morning when he couldn’t sleep anymore, worked out a bit in the gym, and showered in one of the other bedrooms in order not to disrupt Naa’s sleep. He had then gone to the kitchen and prepared Naa’s favourite breakfast – toasted bread, vegetable salad, and coffee.
Â
Nii was setting the table when the doorbell sounded. He answered it and found one of the house staff holding a huge bouquet. The package was so big that it was almost impossible to see the face of the one holding it.
“These came for Miss Naa,” the young man said shyly.
“Okay, bring it in,” Nii said and stepped aside to let him in.
Then, he turned and went back to the dining area, resisting the urge to check on the flowers for the name on the card that was clipped to it.
Looking at the assorted fresh flowers that were sitting on the low table, he realized how much he had taken things for granted.
Â
He didn’t remember the last time he did that for her even though he knew flowers were her thing. Back in the sixth form, he had brought her a flower every morning and his driver had nicknamed him the ‘flower lover’ for doing that, but it was something he loved to do especially when they always made Naa happy. And somehow, it had stopped when they entered the university.
Basically, he had taken Naa’s feelings for granted!
There had been too many distractions, and most times they rode together for school and so he had not seen the need to continue giving her flowers.
Naa never complained so he thought she was okay without it.
Naa walked into the living area as soon as the house staff placed the flowers down on the low table in the living area.
She smiled broadly when she saw the flowers and walked to it, taking in the sweet fragrance it gave off and turned the card to read the message with a smile on her face.
Â
Thanks for a wonderful time yesterday.
PS: Flowers in general are much more beautiful on their trees than when plugged. Do find time to visit my flower garden soon.
Allan.
Â
Naa smiled again, getting the drift he was hinting at but refusing to give it a thought, at least not now.
Nii was done setting the table and was standing in the window looking outside. He decided to go to the window when Naa went to touch the flowers with that happy smile of hers.
Â
He did not want to get into an argument over that even though it was hurting. Apparently, he just needed to up his game now that there was some competition. He did not want to lose her.
Naa wound her arms around him from behind and gave him a tight hug, then she turned him around and kissed him on the lips. It was slow at first but quickly graduated into a passionate one and if she had not stepped back, things would have gotten out of hand.
They ate in silence and when Naa cleared the table and was doing the dishes in the kitchen, Nii came to stand beside her.
“If you feel up to it, I want to take you to the beach today, ” he said.
Naa gave it a thought for a while, then when Nii was just about giving up on an answer, she agreed to go with him.
Â
Nii thanked her with a kiss, helped her wash the dishes then asked to go home and freshen up for the beach.
As soon as Nii went out the door, Naa fetched her phone from the bedroom and came to sit close to the flower. She took a selfie of her beside, the flowers and sent it to Allan with a message.
Thank you for a wonderful time yesterday, and for the flowers. They made my day!
Love, NS
Â
Allan called after the message had gone through and they talked for a while. Then he brought up the topic of another date, this time she would choose where she wanted to go.
It was nice to notice he was trying to be sensitive towards her but Naa did not want to pay any attention to those things. She was not looking for love. Love did not exist for her anymore.
By the time they ended the phone conversation, Naa had agreed to go out with him again but left the day and time open.
