UNTIL YOU
EPISODE 13
Naa woke up to the sight of a smiling Nii looking down at her.
He kissed her gently and greeted. His joy was written all over his face.
“Good morning, beautiful.”
“Good morning, handsome. I was not much fun last night, was I?”
“It depends on what you are referring to as fun. Having you here was the best thing ever and watching you whilst you slept was divine. I can live like this forever, you know.”
“You don’t say. I don’t recall when I fell asleep. We were supposed to watch a movie and I couldn’t keep my eyes open.”
“You were tired and it’s understandable. I am happy you are here with me. That’s more than enough.”
Naa recalled waiting until Nii started his engine on campus and hitting the highways. Nii had stayed with her throughout the journey home since that was the first time she was driving at night after the near-death incident almost a year previously.
Her car had been taken at gunpoint when she was returning from an event in the night and that had shaken her to the bone. It had taken a lot of willpower and encouragement to get her behind the wheel again but she had vowed never to drive alone in the night ever again.
She remembered Nii bringing her to his house after she had parked her car at her house and Nii being sweet and courteous with her. It was just after eight or so and half an hour later they were ready for their movie night after sharing a bath and dinner.
The bath was a hurried one and apart from sharing a deep kiss, nothing else happened.
Nii had scheduled two movies in a row after allowing Naa to decide which ones she would love to watch from the list of movies available. They were propped up in his huge bed with their 3D shades and cone bags filled with popcorn in their hands.
She remembered her eyes getting heavy and then waking up to a smiling Nii even though they had not made love, and she wondered if it was all a front or he was being genuine.
She expected him to make a move to make love to her even though she knew she was not going to go through with it until she was sure of his love and commitment, but he surprised her by turning to the consoles again and selecting another movie to watch.
“I can make popcorn if you want,” he offered.
“No, I’m okay. Just hold me and let’s enjoy the movie,” she countered.
And so, for the next hour, Naa’s head rested on Nii’s chest as he ran his hands through her hair while the movie played.
“Mom expects us at breakfast,” Nii said when the movie ended.
“Oh, no! How did she know I was here? You wouldn’t be guilty of that, would you?”
“I didn’t tell her if that’s what you are asking. I think she saw us coming in last night. I’ve not even seen her… she sent a message,” he replied. “But why do I get the feeling that you don’t want to see her? I thought you said she was your favourite person in this house.”
“She is, I was just…” Naa began uncomfortably.
“You don’t have to fret about it, honey. I can make an excuse for you if you don’t feel up to it,” Nii cut in, and he sounded a little disappointed.
Naa just got another reason to be surprised.
Nii would have moved heaven on earth to get her to see his parents at breakfast. For him to give in so easily made her take a second look at him without saying a word more.
As they got ready for breakfast, Naa filled him in on Celine.
“There’s this mate of ours who stands to be thrown out because she lost her scholarship. Apparently, she failed to retain it by some low score alerts and was asked not to come back this term. She came hoping to raise the money for her tuition but an uncle who promised to help did not come through and now she is forced to choose between a rock and a hard place before exams start. I was thinking we could team up and help her without getting our parents involved.”
“Sure, why not? This person who needs our help, guy or lady?”
“I’m not telling,” Naa replied.
“Why?” he asked with a modicum of surprise.
“Because I know if I mention it’s a guy you would not help out willingly, but if it’s a lady, you’ll gladly help out and that will disappoint me.”
“Why do you even think that? I’m not a sexist,” he replied petulantly.
“You do have a soft spot for ladies, that I know.”
“That’s not true, I only have a soft spot for you, Naa Shika!” he said with a little smile this time.
Breakfast went well as his mother pampered Naa as always.
It was his dad who had a stunned look on his face every time he looked at Naa, and then he would look at his son.
When breakfast was over, they waited around for a bit and then climbed up. Nii’s father came to knock on the door a few minutes afterwards and the two stepped out onto the porch.
Nii was gone for a while but when he came back into the room, he was a little upset when he told Naa that he had to ran some errands for his Dad but wouldn’t tell her what he was going to do.
Naa welcomed the news as she was looking for an excuse to go home and get ready to receive her guest for the day.

Naa jumped with excitement when her doorbell dinged and hurried to open it for Benjie who was dressed in an all-white trousers and top holding a rose flower and a bottle of red wine.
They exchanged a brief hug and entered the plush living area of Naa’s wing.
He handed her the rose and placed the expensive wine on the low table in the living area. Naa already had ice cubes in an ice bucket on the table with a bottle of white wine beside it.
“Glad to see you again, Benjie. It’s been ages,” she said with a sweet smile.
“The pleasure is all mine, Shika. You’re even more beautiful than I remember. You do know how to take care of yourself.”
Benjie and Naa had met three years ago at her doctor’s and they had hit it off instantly. Naa could swear she had a crush on him then. But then, he had taken up a position in the big city shortly after that.
She had lost his contact and had changed doctor’s because the old one had relocated abroad after getting married. She had always wondered what had happened to him until their paths crossed again at The Beach Bliss.
Naa had been excited to see him and had invited him without a second thought but now that he was here, she was not sure if she did the right thing. Things were not like it used to be. He seemed to be more reserved and a little boring.
“Can I offer you something to drink?” she asked after tuning the TV channel to an investigative channel, suddenly feeling the tension that was building up between them.
Naa walked to the dining area and brought two wine glasses and placed them on the low table when she felt a sudden tension emanating strongly from him. It was as if Benjie was fighting his emotions.
She picked the red wine and was uncorking it when Benjie came to stand beside her.
He picked up a glass and aimed it to be filled.
Naa got distracted by something that was showing on the TV and ended up staining Benjie’s clothes.
They both burst into laughter as they stared at the stain in his top and trousers.
“So sorry about that, Benjie,” she said with a hand over her mouth to stem her giggles.
“No problem. Wondering how I’m going to get to work from here looking like this though,” he said gently.
“If you wouldn’t mind, I can get it laundered pretty fast for you,” Naa offered.
“That would be great. I’m a little embarrassed though,” he said with a chuckle.
“Don’t tell me you are naked under those clothes,” Naa said with raised eyebrows.
“That’s not the case. My discomfort stems from the fact that I’ll be undressing before someone as beautiful as you,” he said in a voice that was not quite steady.
“It’s not a problem, Benjie. It was my fault anyway,” Naa replied.
Benjie pulled off his top and got stuck at the neck area so Naa tried to help him get it off.
Then, he pulled off his trousers, and as he was handing it over their eyes met and held for a while, creating an awareness between them. Then, Benjie’s free hand went around her and pulled her closer, their lips inches apart.
“I have always loved you, Shika. Always!”
Then, the door crashed open and an expectant Nii came to a screeching stop when he found Naa in the arms of a half-naked man in the confines of her living area.
The massive headache that rocked through his head almost knocked him unconscious! It was a raw explosion, a violent impetus that no human was ever in control of, an emotional expulsion of insanity wrapped in barbed wire that simply tore through his head so hard that even as he grimaced, tears came to his eyes!
His pain was raw and he could not find his voice.
Tears formed in his eyes for a moment and then he was overtaken by the insanity that was like a viral boost taking over his whole body.
He bunched his right fist to calm his ragging nerves and looked coldly at Naa, still standing in the circle of Benjie’s arms.
Nii tried to speak but nothing came out.
With a herculean effort, he turned around and fled down the stairs without looking back.
