Wrong Start

“You sure you don’t wanna grab something to eat before going to the hospital?” he asked, taking a glance at her and shifting his focus back on the road.
“No I’m fine. I just don’t have an appetite yet.”.
He nodded. Understanding her plight as he’d been there before when Eyram was pregnant with Saeed.
Soon, he drove past the entrance of the hospital to the car pack, and came down from his side of the car. He went to the other side and opened up for Mimi to get down. She only saw it as a sign of respect and nothing else. That’s what he’d made her believe since she first stepped into his house.
Eyes feasted on the girl whose curves were revealed in the bodycon dress she was wearing. Ibrahim feeling proud of being the one to walk side by side with her, stretched out his hand for hers, and she took it willingly. They walked in tow into the doctor’s office. Ibrahim had called to make an appointment with her before driving them there.
Just a few steps inside the corridor.
“Mr Ibrahim. I’m sorry I failed to congratulate you on your wedding.”
Smiling professionally at Ibrahim, she relaxed into her chair.
“Don’t worry about it, Ashley. Your work gets you occupied.”
He smiled back. They’d been friends in college. Nothing had happened between them and it stayed that way.
“I assume this is your wife.”
“Yes.”
“Alright. Let me get the nurse.”
Picking up the telephone, she dialled a number and was soon connected to someone at the end of the line.
“Get here quickly.”
Mimi subconsciously held Ibrahim’s hands. Connected her fingers with his as she felt nervous in her own seat.
Supporting her head with his free hand, he kissed her forehead, smiling sweetly at her.
Ashley tried hard to avert her gaze towards the couple before her. In those few years of her career, not many couples came to her with content faces and you can tell by looking, how their marriage is close to doom. The actions of the two people before her made her want to get married at that moment.
“I think she’s nervous.”
Ashley laughed.
“I get it. It happens to young people a lot. They don’t know what to expect. You just have to guide them.”
A nurse knocked and entered.
“Doctor, you called for me.”
“Yes. Take a sample of her blood and urine for a pregnancy test. Make sure hers is done before anyone else’s,” she sternly warned.
Ashley was a soft-spoken, beautiful woman. Her career had been her priority, sparing her no time to date anyone. Still, she got men to ask her out.
“She will be brought back to you shortly.” Getting up from her seat, she followed the tall nurse out.
Anxiety filled his face, making him shift uncomfortably in his seat. Ashley noticed it and tried engaging him in a conversation. Soon, he was a bit relaxed.
That handsome face she’d always seen in college sat opposite her. Except he looked more matured now.
The nurse came back with her and with a paper in hand. She handed it over to Ashley.
Looking at the result, she smiles broadly.
Ibrahim sat up, waiting anxiously for the doctor to say something.
His face seemed to have lit up as she announced to him.
“Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Mensa,” she looked at Ibrahim and continued. “Your wife is 5 days pregnant.”
His rich laughter filled the room as he seemed to have forgotten why he got her pregnant. The news had made him very excited. And looked forward to seeing a baby crawling in their house once again.
Mimi sat still, not knowing how to feel. Tired, she craved rest. Nothing could make her happy at that moment but seeing Ibrahim happy made her satisfied. She’d finally fulfilled his wish.
When the laughter died down, the doctor continued.
“Naturally her sex drive will increase. It happens to most pregnant women. Sometimes they wake up in the middle of the night for sex. Tt’s just the hormones doing its job. Her mood will change a lot.”
After lecturing them on the do’s and don’t and what to expect during the pregnancy, they left feeling satisfied. At least Ibrahim was.
He drove home to the clattering in the kitchen and he knew Eyram was in there cooking.
At the entrance, he gave Mimi a peck on her cheek.
“I will come to you tonight. We will just talk, alright?”
Nodding, she let go of his hands and left to her room.
“You’re back, and with her. You seem happy Ibrahim.” Eyram met him in the hall, with an unending smile written on his face.
“C.mon Cara, do you not want to know what it is?” The satisfied look on his face is enough to know, he was happy about something.
“What happened?” With her arms folded, she asked, expressionless.
“Mimi is pregnant.”
Eyram opened her mouth in shock.
“Are you not happy?” Asking with concern, he held her against him. Hugging her while he rubbed her back.
“Our son will have a donor soon…his own sibling.”
Pulling away from his touch, she made her way back to the kitchen with the excuse of going to cook.
At 7:00 pm, Mimi was awakened by a knock on her door.
“Please come in.”
Ibrahim gently opened the door and let himself in. He wore boxers and a t-shirt as it was soon his bedtime.
Mimi swallowed hard. Her eyes fixed on the bulge in his briefs.
“You slept. Are you okay now?”
“I’m fine. Thanks for asking.”
Failing to control herself. She latched herself at him when he sat close to her on the bed.
“Are you okay, Mimi?” he asked, concern written on his face.
Gazing into his piercing brown eyes, she uttered.
“I feel hot.”
Holding unto his briefs, he understood what she wanted.
“Are you sure?”
She nodded.
His big hands travelled around her neck and pecked it.
Taking one last glance her, he asked again.
Latching herself at him once more, he took it as a positive answer.
Not wanting to stress her, he laid down on the bed with her back facing him.
Sliding into her from behind, they moved to their own tune. Her moans filled the room. After seeing to it that she’d climaxed, after his, he watched her sleep.
His work didn’t permit him to slack around all night. He had a conference call to hold. Else he would have slept in her bed that night. Just to cuddle in with her. What he had come to know that she liked.
Getting out of the bed gently, he got out of her room and closed the door behind him. His body smelled of him and her mixed together during sex. A powerful smell he didn’t want to wash off but for the respect of his son and Eyram, he did wash up.
Immediately after taking his bath, he visited Saeed’s room. The boy was sleeping peacefully in his bed. Clutching unto a toy Ibrahim had bought for him, his favourite toy.
Taking a last glance at him, he closed the door behind him. Eyram’s absence disturbed him. She’s been distant since last night. Not that he blamed her after accepting Mimi and being extra nice to her.
The soft whispers from outside, propelled him to go and check if she was there.
The voice was indeed hers. The desperate tone was something he hadn’t heard in a while from her.
“Mum, please, drop it. I can’t tell him that. Not when he’s starting to love some foolish girl.”
There was this angry tone attached to the way Eyram mentioned “girl”.
Ibrahim listened in because she was a secretive person and wouldn’t tell him anything unless he convinced her. The voice could be heard from behind the kitchen building. He could have left but decided against it when he heard his sons name.
“What do you mean?”
“Mum, do you think it would be wise for me to reveal who Saeed’s father is?”
The statement sounded strange in his ears. Who else was Saeed’s father and why did she have to reveal him when everyone knew? These questions clouded his mind but thought nothing of it until he heard her next words.
“Ibrahim doesn’t have to know he’s raising someone else’s child.”
That statement hit him like a rock on the head. His face crunched up in confusion, bitterness, betrayal. Nothing could describe how he felt at that moment. If he did not control himself, he was likely to hurt her. Although he’s never lifted a finger on her.
Walking back into the hall, he sat on the couch with his hand on both sides of his head. How cruel she’d been. To lie about something like this after all he had done for her. After all his family had done for her. The feral side of him had been hidden for years but now, it seemed to want to be out.
Thoughts flooded his mind. Questions he had no answers to took over his brain. Taking his mind of those questions, instinct had him call Mimi’s brother.
They had become friends ever since Mimi turned 18. He knew her exams was near plus her pregnancy so he decided to send her back to her parent’s house as he did not want her seeing anything which might harm her mental health.
Dialling Phil’s number, he briefly explained to him which he understood. Promising to come for her sister the next day.
Saeed did not have to deal with any of this.
Yelling Adidas’s name, she came out running.
With a shaky but firm voice, he told her to send Saeed to his family house with the message that; they should care for the child till he found out the truth about what he was looking for. The conference will still have to go on. He got up and dragged himself to his porsche home office, closing the door.
