Topic: Marriage Can Be A Distraction
I want you to be free from the concerns of this life. An unmarried man can spend his time doing the Lord’s work and thinking about how to please Him. But a married man has to think about his earthly responsibilities and how to please his wife.
1 Corinthians 7:32-33 (NLT)
Sober Reflections
God instituted marriage for His glory.
So marriage is good. One of the ways we show our trust and love for God is by the way we love and respect our husbands. Eph 5:22
Though marriage is a gift from God, it can also be a distraction.
Paul explains it this way:
The married man is concerned about how to please his wife. And the wife is concerned about how to please her husband. He says this is worldly. It is only on earth that we can marry. There is no marriage after death, no marriage in heaven.
So we need to be careful that our marriage does not come between us and our relationship with God.
We must always make God the number ONE in our lives and marriages.
This is non-negotiable. Exodus 20:2-3
Sisters, our marriages are gifts from God but we must not make the gift our god. Our marriages must not cause us to lose our commitment and love for God. When we keep God first in our lives and marriages, we will experience the abundant blessings of God in our marriages and family.
Prayer
Thank You Father God for the gift of marriage and the blessings that come with it.
Holy Spirit, please help me to glorify God in my marriage. Help me to always put God first and not lose my commitment and love for God in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen!
