The Roommate Episode 8 © Eunice Ansah-Agyeman
Julie-Anna almost gave out a shout of triumph when she saw the speed with which Mina came out of Sabastian’s room with him in tow.
She watched from the balcony of the house of her sex mate who was close by.
She turned from the balcony when the car carrying Mina took off despite the pleas from Sabastian.
“Now it’s time for plan B, Bastian Baby. You will learn the hard way that I always get what I want. All you needed to do was play ball but no, your arrogant self has spurned every advance I have made since the last time. I am not going back to campus as a percher next sem, darling, and you are my ticket.”

The night was still young and would have been a beauty to watch if Mina was in her right senses. Her eyes had refused to stop the tears from falling out of them and it had also failed to unsee what they had beheld in Sabastian’s phone.
As the car moved through the streets of the city filled with laughter from merrymakers and music that would have soothed her soul, she could only think about what had just happened. She wondered if she had handled the whole situation right but a big part of her knew that Sabastian was not telling her the whole truth.
Aware that the driver was casting worried glances at her, she looked into the rear mirror to match his stare.
“What?“ she said, unable to hide her displeasure any longer.
“Nothing. I was just making sure you are alright back there,” he replied without taking his eyes off the road.
“What do you care? You all have one grandfather. Men are a bunch of liars, betrayers, heartbreakers, dream-shatters, and… “
“I can understand your pain from the little I saw and heard back there, but generalizing it is not fair to the good men out there.”
Not touched by his words, Mina did not change her stance on how she saw men now.
To her, they will always be ingrates, pain-inflictors, trust abusers, and all the worst names one could think about.
If Sabastian, the man who had treated her as if she was the breath he takes, could be this callous, this disrespectful and uncaring when all she had ever done was give him her all, then there were no exceptions, especially from where she sat at the moment. Men were the most confused and complicated lot on planet Earth.
As she fought the tears from flowing faster whenever the message popped up in her mind’s eyes, she felt angry. Angry that Sabastian, like the coward he was, had not even had the decency to accept a wrong and apologize for it. Instead, he was making it look like she was out of her mind. That was the part that was hurting her the most.
“He could be telling the truth, you know, “ the driver stated, trying his best to make her see things from another side. The problem was he did not like the anguish he saw all over the beautiful lady he was chauffeuring.
He was not always this nosy, but this lady seemed to be losing it and felt he needed to help her get out of it before something really bad happened.
Swiftly, he looked at her through the rear mirror when he did not get any reaction to his submission.
Just when he accepted that she did not hear him and it was best to mind his business, she met his gaze in the rear mirror and chuckled.
“You guys think women are stupid. You think you can get away with anything, but you fail to realize that a woman’s instincts are as accurate as the moon appearing only at night. We have brains, you know?”
The driver felt her pain and decided to just let it slide. He did not want to take sides. Being a guy and with the little experience he had, it was either the guy was innocent or a real playboy and a good actor. He was completely bought by his actions.
The driver pulled up at the destination thirty minutes later. She paid the fare and was about to get down when she saw that the golden padlock to the main house was outside indicating that her sister was not at home. Mina went through her bag and realized her set of keys was nowhere to be found.
Then, she remembered emptying her bag when she was looking for a pen drive containing a collection of songs she had put together for their anniversary night.
“Is there a problem, Miss?” the driver asked after waiting a while for her to get down.
“No, sorry,” she stated as she turned the doorknob. It yielded and she stepped into the cold night with her heart still skipping beats every time she recalled the message Julie-Anna had sent to the man she loved unconditionally.
She wished there was a way to just switch off her feelings for Sabastian to stop the ache that was ripping through her heart, body and soul.
Not sure what to do next, she called her sister and envied her for a spell because she seemed to be having a good time wherever she was.
Wendy told her she was out with her fiancé and would probably spend the night at his place.
Mina stood in the streets for a while, staring at the closed gate as she went over her options for the night.
Her best friend was in the States for the vacation. Her parents, who could have given her an alternative entry to their house, were on sabbatical in Rome.
After exhausting all her options, she decided to take the fifty-minute trip back to Sabastian’s house for her keys. She played over the whole scene and Sabastian’s reactions and wanted so much to believe that it was all a big mistake, that it was one of those exceptions when a message like that landed in the wrong person’s inbox. But try as she did, there was something deep down in her gut that told her she was not wrong about her suspicions. Something was going on, she was sure about that.
Over the years, there had been occasions like this in their relationship when she felt Sabastian was cheating on her or was receiving attention from another woman. But she had allowed him to sweet-talk her into thinking that she was allowing her imagination to run wide.
She quickly went through her purse when the thought of spending the night in a hotel crossed her mind, but there was not enough money for that. Her visa card was in the house, and she had no other means of paying for the service.
Reluctantly, she put in a request for a ride and waited, not surprised that Sabastian had not called. That was very typical of him, especially when he wanted to play the victim. She was going over a lot of scenarios in her head, past situations when her phone made that unique sound that indicated the ride she ordered had arrived.
She opened the back door and lowered herself into the seat as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

Julie-Anna spent about twenty minutes to look pretty. When she was satisfied with how she looked and smelled, she locked up since her partner had left to be with his wife and children.
She walked leisurely to the entrance of Sebastian’s house and charmed her way into making the security guard believe Sabastian was expecting her.
Slowly, she opened the door and smiled when she did not see anyone in the room. The sound from the running water suggested Sabastian was in the shower, maybe cooling off from a possible blue ball situation.
She removed the loose dress she was wearing and stood naked for a spell. Then, she climbed the bed, and laid on it with her jade gate wide open.
“A second time, Bastian, then you can’t say we are not an item.”

Fifty minutes later, the car pulled up behind the tall walls of the house she had dreamed of inhabiting as the wife of the only son of the family and shook her head when that thought surfaced.
“The fool I have been!” she whispered as she stepped out of the car.
“Please keep the meter running,” she told the driver and closed the car door softly.
She walked briskly to the door to Sabastian’s room, ignoring the troubled look on the security guard’s face and reminding herself that she was only there for her keys and nothing else.
Briskly, she opened the door and came to a complete stop at the sight that met her eyes.
For a spell, she stood frozen, as if all the blood in her body had been in a chest freezer for years.
“Sabastian!!!” her chilling scream filled the night air and for a moment, she felt like all the blood in her veins had vanished.
Completely broken now she fought to stay conscious as she literally felt the blood rushing to her brain, her eyes filling with unshed tears and her heart skipping beats uncontrollably.
She held onto the doorknob for balance as she felt weak all of a sudden.
Unconsciously, she blinked twice, just to assure herself that she was not dreaming and that she was really seeing what was right there in her face.
But wait ooo… how could this Julie-Anna always get her calculations right with the movement of Mina and Bastian? I don’t wanna believe he’s been a second-time lucky!
Is it really true that Julie-Anna and Bastian’s are having a go again? That would be indeed surprising
