The Roommate Episode 11 © Eunice Ansah-Agyeman
Julie-Anna was lying on the king-sized bed, naked, thinking of her next steps when the angry security men entered their Master’s bedroom.
“Idiots, don’t you knock before you enter your master’s bedroom? The impudence. Your master will surely hear about this insolence.”
“Save us the trouble, Miss. Get dressed and leave this minute before you get us in trouble. You lied to us that our master was expecting you. Get up and get dressed quickly,” the taller of the two security personnel said, while the other gathered Julie-Anna’s strewn clothes and handed them over to her.
“You people don’t obviously value your jobs, I can see that. You better get out of here before I decide to tell Sabastian about your impudence.”
“Save yourself the hassle, Miss. Mr Anderson ordered us to make sure you are gone before he comes back. So, if I were you, I would get dressed sharp, sharp, and get lost. It is obvious that you are not wanted here.”
That piece of information got to Julie-Anna. Sabastian must hate her very much to ask these nincompoops to get her out of the house.
She picked up her clothes, dressed up in front of the security guards in anger because they would not allow her to use the bathroom and left.

Sabastian entered the elegant living area of the Freemans with a pitiful face and walked on steel legs to the place where Mina was seated.
He went on his knees immediately and tried to hold her legs but Mina moved her legs as she shook her head, and the tears that were coursing down her face felt hotter and dropped faster.
“I am so sorry your heart is broken like this because of me, M. But you have to believe me when I tell you that nothing happened between your roommate and me today. I didn’t even know she was there. I saw her just around the same time that you did.
The thing was, when you left I felt this massive discomfort in my balls and even though I so much wanted to come after you, I decided getting a cold shower would help ease the discomfort. I was in the shower for a long time, thinking. I decided to come to your place when I got into the room and you had not returned for I prayed that you would come back. Please believe me when I tell you nothing happened between us that night and nothing is going on between us.”
“You keep saying today, tonight, does that suggest that you two have had sex at some other time?” Mina asked as she wiped the tears from her face.
“You remember I told you I needed to tell you something when I went to my father’s hometown.”
“Yes, and you told me you’d tell me at a more appropriate time when you came back when I asked you.”
“Yes. End-of-semester examinations were around the corner and right after that, our anniversary came up,” Sabastian rushed through, still finding it hard to look her in the eye and tell her he had sex with her roommate on a night that was supposed to be the best day of his life.
The thing is, Sabastian was still battling with forgiving himself for falling into the thorny clutches of that viper of a human by the name of Julie-Anna. He was finding it difficult to verbalize to the woman he loved with his soul that he had intimately been with another woman who was parading around as her friend.
Auntie Cassie cleared her throat when she deduced Sabastian’s discomfort and asked if she should excuse them.
Mina shook her head and looked at Sabastian for the first time he came.
“Whatever you need to tell me, just do. It doesn’t matter if my Auntie is here or not. I will tell her anyway so just get on with it.”
Still kneeling, Sabastian ran his hands through his head several times, and then tears formed in his eyes.
“Something terrible happened on the day of your birthday and I have been struggling with finding a way to tell you,” Sabastian said, almost in a whisper. Somehow, his voice sounded off to him and he was dreading Mina’s reaction to the unfortunate news he was about to let out.
“When I left your place in the Uber, Kelvin called to congratulate me for the proposal and said a few of the boys who could not make it to the party were gathered at his place to celebrate me. I passed through and although I knew I was quite drunk, I took another bottle or so with them before I left with the waiting Uber. Then, I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and saw a note from you, and your dress, the lemon green one, on the floor when I opened the door.”
Mina was confused.
“A note from me, and my dress? What are you talking about, Sabastian?”
“Please let him finish, Mina,” Auntie Cassie admonished, getting the drift of what Sabastian was trying to get across.
“Things went a bit fast from there because someone came up from behind me and then… Well, when I woke up the next dawn to get ready for the trip to my father’s hometown, I was expecting to see you, you know but it was …”
“Who was it, Sabastian? I did not leave the hostel that night. Who was it?”
“I think you know who it was. I don’t have to tell you. I warned you about that girl. She is evil. And to cut a very long story short, she wants a side relationship with me, and money and things like that. And when I refused to give in to her advances and requests, she set me up because she knew you would be with me today. The text message is a lie. What you saw in my room today is also a lie. She wants to break us up because I wouldn’t give in to her crazes. I am so sorry Mina. So sorry I committed a blunder like this and caused you pain.”
Mina was quiet for a long while, still trying to understand what Sabastian was saying.
A note from her!
Her green dress!
“I don’t quite get it, Sabastian. Are you saying you had sex with someone thinking it was me? How is that even possible? You don’t know me that well? Is that what you are trying to tell me?”
“Mina, please. This is hard for me too. I feel very unwise and devasted. I have been beating myself silly over this. I wasn’t myself that night. I’ve had too much to drink, and I did not, for a second, think that your roommate, or any other woman for that matter will try something like this. Don’t question my love for you. I’m a victim too.”
Auntie Cassie stepped in when things began to get out of hand, and slowly she made Mina see things from Sabastian’s point of view.
“Mina, you are my niece, the favourite of the lot. I think you should take things easy and think through what you’ve learned carefully. Your heart knows the truth, so listen to it. It’s not easy to walk up to someone you love and tell them you have been unfaithful. I find it quite humbling that he wanted you to have the peace of mind to write your exams. I see a man who cares deeply for you here. But it’s a decision you have to make. You can believe him, accept his apology and move on or you can do otherwise. That is something that is entirely up to you. And I want you to know that I will support whatever decision you make on this matter.”
Mina got to her feet and walked over to her aunt, and then the tears just broke out without much of a warning. Her aunt just held her, as her agonised body shook from the tears from the pain she was experiencing.
