The Roommate Episode 13 © Eunice Ansah-Agyeman
Sabastian smiled, trying to ease the tension that was simmering in the air around them. He walked to his mom and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
“Mom, you should be in bed. Please let me take you back to your room,” he said, threw his car keys to one of the security officers and asked him to park his car.
“Ekow, what’s going on here? I heard slightly raised voices, and I recognised yours, that’s why I came outside. Who is that lady and what is she doing here at this time of the night.”
“Mom, sorry to disturb your sleep. Let’s go inside, so you can go back to sleep. It’s not good for you to be out here at this time. The lady is from the university…There was a misunderstanding earlier and I left for town. I thought she left but I guess she didn’t. I’ll handle it, please let me take you back to your room,” he said as he tried to lead his mom away with his anger boiling to its peak.
“Good evening Ma. I’m sorry we disturbed your calm night. I did something terrible to your son and I came to apologise but he was still mad at me. He asked the security guards to escort me and left. I didn’t want us to sleep with this hanging around our heads. Besides, he has not told me if he was going to help me or not. I need his help badly,” Julie-Anna rushed through as she drew closer to Sabastian and his mom.
Sabastian’s mom tried to stop but her son urged her to continue walking. He was not sure why Julie-Anna was trying to be such a pain in his life.
“I’ll handle this, Mom. Trust me. Just go upstairs and try and go back to sleep. This is not something I would want you to worry your head about.”
“If you say so, son. And young lady, learn not to stay out too late dressed like that. It’s not good for your image. People would associate that with a lot of demeaning things.”
“Yes, Ma. Thank you.”
When Sabastian came back from taking his mom upstairs, Julie-Anna was seated at the security post with her legs crossed with most of her thighs showing, and a crafty smile playing around the corners of her lips as she found ways to carry out damage control of the situation.
Mina finding out about her little game came a shade too early for her liking. That night, she did not think for a second that Mina would come back for any reason whatsoever. Her plan for that day backfired but at least it was not all in vain. Now, the two were separated and only a miracle could bring them together.
She had realized now that Sabastian would never look at her as a woman and even though that bothered her much to her surprise, she would try and use the advantage she had over Sabastian’s guilt to make things work for her.
The fact was, she had spent the whole time she was waiting for Sabastian away from the prying eyes of the security guards thinking about her next steps, and so far things were going as planned.
And, as a trophy for her hard work, she had just discovered Sabastian’s greatest weak spot, his mother. She was not sure what she was going to use that discovery for just yet but all would depend on how he treated her going forward.
Sabastian pulled her roughly from the chair she was sitting on and dragged her outside the gate, closing it behind him.
“What are you trying to do? Why are you being such a pain in my life? What have I ever done to you?”
The questions just kept popping out as his fury towards the lady standing in front of him now reached a point where he was not able to think straight, and the feeling of lashing out to pacify his soul became dominant.
“You know what I want. Don’t play dumb. Right now, I need a place to sleep for the night, then the rest will follow.”
Sabastian laughed for the first time since the whole bruhaha started and for a minute, Julie-Anna was worried.
“I don’t think this building you see right here has a hotel tag on it. And I didn’t ask you to wait for me. You will not get me on this one, Julie witch-wizard. Thanks to you and your antics, it’s been a long dreary day and I want to be alone now. This house has no room for vipers like you.”
“You can’t leave me out here in this dead of night, Sabastian. Would you like it if your sister is treated like this?”
“Save your emotional blackmail for another person, witch. First, I don’t have a sister and second, my sister will not be this bitchy. What would you have done if I had not come back, huh? It will be in your best interest to pretend I did not return. Scram before I call the police on you.”
“The police, really. Do you want us to go that route? You don’t know what I am capable of, spoilt brat. Don’t press my bitchy buttons.”
“And you don’t know who you are dealing with. I just pressed your bitchy button three times in a row, let’s see what you can do. Get lost and stay lost.”
“Don’t make me scream and draw your mom out again. This time I promise I will tell her everything. From wooing me to your bed on the promise of paying for my tuition to getting me a place of my own.”
“Ha, you have a wild imagination, don’t you? You should consider writing for a career. Scream all you want. I made sure Mother would not hear you even if you shouted on top of your voice. This place here has a lot of cool tech stuff that makes life very easy and stress-free. If I were you, I would be careful about the lies I tell, because you will be forced to eat them all back. Get out of here, and get a life. Let me warn you though, the next time you come close to me or anyone close to me, I’m getting a restraining order.”

The water from the shower spilled down the slopes of the medium-built handsome young man without inhibitions. He let it pour out without a care hoping the water volumes would first, clean his body off the disgust he felt any time he remembered he had been with Julie-Anna and second, bring him hope of a new beginning of life with Wilhelmina Addison.
He had not slept a wink the day before and that was taking a toll on him as he stood under the shower. Feeling worn out and with his mind at a great war with the recent happenings, he had gone to his favourite spot in the house, the garden when he left Julie-Anna out. He was not sure how long he sat there and watched the birds as they slept in the golden nests made for them as if there was no tomorrow.
For a while, he felt at peace, but when he remembered how his life had taken a dip for the worst after Mina took on a roommate in the person of Julie-Anna, the battle of the minds resurfaced.
Last night, he was going to tell Mina all about what happened on their engagement night before anything happened between them if things got that far. For the weeks after the incident, he had put off making love to the woman he loved with one excuse or the other because he knew he could just not be that callous.
Also, he wanted to make sure the she-devil in human flesh had not infested him with anything transmittable and worth worrying about, especially where Mina was concerned.
After what seemed like an eternity, he turned off the shower, cleaned himself and padded to his bedroom in a clean boxer he now kept in a bathroom closet he had ordered to be installed after the incident that had left Mina broken to smithereens.
He still took that precaution even though he had activated the motion sensor to his wing of the house and any movement at the entrances to his side of the house would trigger an alarm.
Quickly, he got dressed, picking one of the black T-shirts Mina had given him as a present, and a pair of dark grey khaki trousers Mina liked very much.
A few minutes later, he pulled up at a flower shop down the lane in his hood.
The owner, who had just opened the shop and was pruning some twigs here and there, sighting his favourite customer smiled, removed her gloves, washed her hands and walked to take her place behind the counter.
“You can write the delivery address here. I will let my guys deliver them immediately,” the kind lady said, as she pointed to the delivery order book on the counter.
Sabastian was in the process of scribbling the address when he had a change of mind to deliver the bouquet of Mina’s assorted favourite flowers in person.
He cancelled the delivery order, picked up the seven packs of assorted flowers and left a few minutes afterwards.
Soon, he pulled up at the residence of the Freemans, and with a heart beating with trepidation and hands filled with flowers, he managed to press the doorbell.
