EPISODE 5
Ledi Pedi, torn and shattered, could barely see ahead as he sped through the dangerous back-roads of the Akuapim Mountains.
He was not aware that he had taken the back-roads turn in his great pain, and that the car was hurtling toward hairpin turns on a road that was rarely used.
The huge car screeched around the bends as he descended the tortuous road, and only his instincts saved him from a fatal crash.
Oh, no, Lord! You were, cheating on me, to the extent of getting pregnant and giving me the babies of your lover? Oh, Akua, Akua, Akua! You have killed the soul within me…
There was a jarring and jangling pain in his head, and in his heart. He fought the tears away angrily, savagely, refusing to see her face, to see the pain and anguish in her eyes that final moment when he had blasted out of the house and seen her in the front seat of the burning car, staring at him with great remorse on her face.
She had known she was dying, but her face had held no fear, no panic…only the great remorse, and even as he ran forward toward the burning car, screaming his head off in anguish, he had seen her lips moving as she uttered words…
He had seen those lips over and over in his dreams, in his head, but he had never been able to understand what she had said…
Ledi Pedi went through another bend recklessly, and this time round one side of the car shot up into the air, the tyres clearing the ground, and then smashing back down with a furious squeal of metal.
Ledi was not aware of the terrible demon smashing through the sky above him. The demon had rendered the night pitch-black, and so Ledi could not even discern it. As Ledi’s car levelled out on a stretch of road, the demon came hurtling downward toward the road.
It landed in a curve in the road and covered the length of it, and the darkness was so thick that Ledi could not discern the demon as he took the curve at top speed.
The car smashed sickeningly into the invisible evil body of Kuman-P0-Guru, and came to a shuddering halt!
Ledi Pedi, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown forcibly forward, and his chest smashed with terrible impact against the steering-wheel. He felt some bones in his chest fracturing, causing blood to spew out of his mouth.
Kuman-Po-Guru reached into the car, grabbed Ledi by the head, and forcibly pulled him forward through the windscreen.
Ledi, barely alive, went through the glass, shattering it, and several shards of the windscreen pierced and cut up his body as the demon threw him across the road.
Ledi smashed onto the hard surface of the road.
His chest was smashed, and the glass had cut up his body terribly! He lay on the ground, moaning weakly as blood spewed out of his smashed body.
Dimly he heard the harsh laughter of Kuman-Po-Guru, and smelt the stink of the demon all around him, but because of the dense darkness he could not make out the vile entity.
“Tonight…you perish!” the demon croaked in the darkness.
Blood poured out of Ledi.
He shivered as pain wracked his body. There was a glass fragment embedded deep into his right eye, and he could not see through that.
He could barely move, but he gathered his ebbing strength into a loud shout of defiance.
“Bring it on, demon!” he screamed. “I am not afraid of you, damn evil piece of cow dung!”
In the darkness the demon let out a wail of fury, and it smashed a foot into Ledi’s throat and began to choke the life out of him.
“I made thee a promise to sift thee!” it moaned in the darkness. “Perish, puny human!”
Ledi felt no fear, only terrible crushing failure, and at that moment in time, his sordid life spread out in front of him, and he knew that he had failed not only himself, but his God.
He had been blessed more than many men. He had wealth, more than he could use in a lifetime, and he had power, the most incredible power any human could hope to have!
But he had allowed all that to go to waste in his grief, in his bitterness and his anger toward a God who always knew better!
Sheer helplessness ripped through Ledi’s body, and he tried to pray, to ask for forgiveness…but he could not concentrate!
His body was too torn up, and his mind was too tortured to make coherent thoughts!
And then, he heard the ominous sounds….
The frightening, writhing, terrible sound of many evil beings struggling, and he knew that a Death Cloud had landed, ready to whisk away his soul the moment his life ended!
Death Cloud!
Not an Angel of Death, but a Death Cloud!
Dear Lord! All his work had been in vain because in the end he had lived like a sordid sinner, and there was no redemption for him!
Oh, Lord!
The sounds of the Death Cloud became more frenzied, more agitated, and Ledi knew his death was near.
He was afraid now!
Afraid of the Death Cloud, wondering where they would take his soul and what would happen to him!
“Yes, puny human!” Kuman-Po-Guru hissed in the darkness. “Thou goest to Hades, motherfucker! Mess with Kuman-Po-Guru and dieth! Perish, shmuck!”
Ledi Pedi tried frantically to scream, to pray, to beg for forgiveness, even in his heart, but to no avail. He had waited till the eleventh hour, and now he was dying on the tenth!
He was now beginning to see his dead body on the ground as his soul left his body partially as death loomed closer and closer…
And then his soul turned, and looked down the road, and saw two powerful twin lights of a huge car approaching at breakneck speed!
Kuman-Po-Guru looked down the road too and saw the car, and it growled with sudden fury, uttering out the warning!
The powerful car came to a screeching halt, and the driver’s door flew open, and in the darkness a huge, powerfully-built figure emerged, and a furious voice sliced through the darkness.
“As I be a messenger of the God of Hosts, of God of Israel, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Father of my Lord Jesus Christ whom I serve, my words will be heeded by the Father!”
It was both a familiar and a powerful voice!
Ledi saw that his soul had all but left his body, and only his feet were connected. He knew that as soon as his feet broke free he would be dead!
But that voice of the stranger!
Who could speak with such authority, with such arrogance in his God-given ability?
And then the answer slammed into Ledi with the force of a mule’s kick!
Yaw Boat!
The one with the multiple gifts! The new Unblind who had defeated terrible Legion! This same man God had sent to save Ledi earlier from a demon that had almost killed him when he had been helping the Wailing Entity!
Yaw Boat was coming closer, and Kuman-Po-Guru was growling menacingly in the darkness now as it tried to reach out and grab Boat.
“Keep your filthy paws off me!” Yaw Boat commanded, and Ledi felt the sudden wail of fear from the demon.
Yaw Boat spoke again.
“My Lord, my God, my Father! You made the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon for Joshua until Israel was avenged of her enemies…I pray then, oh Lord, even though it is night, reveal the sun over this mountain, so I can discern this evil turd that seeks to distort the righteous ways of the Lord!”
And then, incredibly, amazingly, the sun simply appeared in the sky over the ground where the whole drama was taking place!
Ledi Pedi could see that the surrounding areas were still dark with the night, but the portion where the demon was killing him was now bright with sunlight!
Kuman-Po-Guru shrieked and let go of Ledi’s neck!
Ledi’s soul slammed back forcibly into his body, and he began to cough terribly!
Kuman-Po-Guru was revealed now!
The darkness it had imposed was gone, and the sun had revealed its ugly glory, its dense, white ugliness!
It shrunk away from Yaw Boat’s incredible glow, and it tried to raise into the sky and flee.
“As by the power given me through the blood of Jesus shed on Mount Golgotha, you will remain still in the name of Jesus, you fucking vile demon!” Yaw Boat uttered, stretching a finger toward Kuman-Po-Guru!
The demon crashed to the ground, moaning and thrashing with pain.
Yaw Boat – tall, incredibly-handsome, dressed in an impeccable short-sleeved white shirt and black jeans – took a step toward the demon.
His face was harsh as he stared at the huge, vile demon.
“Please!” Kuman-Po-Guru wailed in agony. “I have no fight with thee! Please, it is not within thy power to punish me! Let me go!”
“I don’t give a fuck what you think, Demon!” Boat growled. “When you touch one of us, you touch all of us! By the powers given me, by the stripes of my Lord Jesus Christ, I’m gonna mess you up!”
He raised his right hand.
The demon screeched with terror and covered its face.
Ledi Pedi screamed suddenly.
“No, Boat, no!” Ledi wailed in anguish as tears streamed down his face.
Boat glanced at him with absolute disgust.
“No? No, what? Fuck you, Pedi! You don’t even deserve to live, and you know it!”
“Yeah, I know,” Ledi whispered as hot tears fell down his face. “But God doesn’t believe that, right? He sent you, the powerful Yaw Boat, to come and stop my death, didn’t He? Seems to me this is not your call, Mr. Boat!”
Boat’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
“It’s not my call, yes, and I’ve done my duty,” he said in a voice filled with absolute contempt. “I don’t know why you are alive, Pedi. You’re full of shit. This is the second time. I’ll tell you what, the next time I’m sent to save your shitty ass, I’m gonna disobey, do you understand? You bastard, grow up and stop behaving like a fucking sissy!”
He turned toward the demon again, his hand raised.
“No, Boat, no!” Ledi Pedi moaned. “Kuman-Po-Guru is mine, man. I’m gonna deal with that damn demon!”
“Deal with it?” Yaw Boat hissed angrily. “You can’t even clean your own ass, motherfucker!”
“I know, bro,” Ledi whispered weakly. “I’ve been sick, man. I’ve allowed my self-pity and sorrows to drown me. But no more. It took death staring me in the eye to make me see. Leave that demon alone!”
Boat shook his head, looking confused.
“If I let it go, it would come back for you,” he said softly. “You know that, right?”
“Yeah,” Ledi whispered. “But if I don’t deal with it, I’ll never get the confidence to get back on my calling, Boat. I beg of you, let me do this. Please”
Yaw Boat hesitated for a moment, still looking angry, and then he suddenly flicked his arm.
Kuman-Po-Guru was tossed away forcibly to crash into the side of the mountain.
The demon wailed with pain, and then it blasted away into the skies, wailing, and disappeared into the darkness behind the sunlight.
Yaw Boat walked slowly toward the broken body of Ledi Pedi.
He reached down and took hold of Ledi’s arm.
Ledi’s body shook violently as he felt the power of the Lord coursing through him from Boat’s body.
The shard of glass sprang out of Ledi’s eye, and so did all the shards in him!
He felt the wounds on his body closing up by the divine healing powers washing through him from Boat’s body, and his broken chest bones firmed and closed up.
By the time Yaw Boat hurled Ledi to his feet, Ledi Pedi was once again a whole man, and the only signs of his terrible ordeal was the blood on his body and on the ground.
Without a word Yaw Boat turned toward his car.
“Hey, Boat!” Ledi said, and the handsome man stopped.
Ledi Pedi walked forward and embraced Boat.
“Thanks, man,” he said feelingly. “Thank you very much.”
“Get the fuck off me!” Yaw Boat said disdainfully, pushing Ledi back.
He got into his powerful car, started up, executed a tight U-turn, and then he wound down his window and looked at Ledi.
“You better get your act together, man,” he said coldly. “Next time, I ain’t coming.”
Ledi smiled thinly.
“You lie bad, Yaw,” he said.
“What?” Boat asked, taken aback.
“If God wants you to come save me, you’ll have no choice in the matter, bro,” he said with a chuckle.
Yaw Boat stared at him, and then he also smiled and shook his head.
“Get your act together, man,” he said, and his voice was calmer and kinder now. “You went through something terrible. We all did. Watched my beloved father’s skull crushed on a concrete roof. You know what to do, man.”
Ledi Pedi nodded as tears came to his eyes again.
He waved to Yaw Boat as the huge Escalade moved away, and with it the sun disappeared, leaving Ledi Pedi in the gloom.
Ledi nodded again.
He knew what to do alright.
In the darkness, with tears spilling down his face, he knelt down slowly, and raised his hands to heaven.
Ledi Pedi began to pray, for the very first time in years…
