EPISODE 11
Maa Adjoa is in bed reminiscing.
She cannot believe one person can have that much effect on her. She has fallen hopelessly in love with Lexis and as much as it is a beautiful thing, it is also so very scary.
Flashes of the kiss they shared right at her doorstep assuage her mind and she feels her heart skipping a beat. His voice gives her the butterflies and his touch brings the whole zoo home to her. She picks up her phone and enters the Klever Chatroom. She is feeling on top of the world all of a sudden.
As usual, there are about a thousand and more chat threads.
She goes through it, skipping the audios and videos. Her attention is drawn to a post by Stella Kumah. She always posts the Fulfilled Woman series. It is one of the posts in the Chatroom Maa Adjoa always look out for.
She stops at Stella’s post and reads:
The Fulfilled Woman
Topic: God’s Waiting Room
Have you ever had to wait for your turn in a doctor’s waiting room? It is not a pleasant experience, and it can be very uncomfortable. But it is necessary, if we must get the needed attention.
God’s waiting room is the time of the promise, to the fulfilment of that promise. It could be the time you are praying for something that is dear to your heart until you receive an answer to that prayer: The prayer could be for marriage. a child, salvation of the soul of a dear one, a job, a healing etc.
Life seems to be a time-table of waiting for something at every stage. Waiting to finish school; waiting to get a job; yes, waiting to get married; waiting to have children, waiting for this or that.
If we are always waiting for something, then God certainly has a purpose for our waiting.
It is very easy to think that we are ALONE and no one else is waiting.
This is not true.
Everybody is waiting for something.
Sober Reflection
As women, staying in God’s waiting room is very important, though usually painful, it is the place to get the best and right answer.
We need to know that God may use our presence in His waiting room at that time, to change a situation in other people’s lives or even a nation. Thus, our waiting is for a reason and God has a purpose to accomplish in our lives.
In Acts 16:25-32, Paul and Silas were imprisoned for casting out a demon from a girl. Their presence in prison resulted in the salvation of the souls of the prison warden and his household.
My dear sisters, our attitude and conduct, sometimes determine how long we spend in God’s waiting room.
- Let us not fret and complain while waiting. The Israelites spent 40 years instead of a few day’s journey in the wilderness because they murmured against God.
- Let us think about the goodness and blessings of God upon our lives and not focus on the problems. Philippians 2;14-15
- Let us occupy ourselves with fulfilling God’s purpose in our lives by being active in the things of God.
With the right attitude in God’s Waiting Room, Our Break-though is assured!
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91
While we wait upon God, we are assured of His protection as well.
He who has promised is faithful to complete it!
My dear sisters, the Bible gives us many examples of people who had to wait for one thing or the other in their lives:
- Abraham and Sarah waited for 25 years for their son, Isaac.
- Joseph waited for 13 years of betrayal, false accusation and imprisonment for his dream to become a reality.
- David had to wait in exile for 14 years, for fear of being killed by Saul before becoming the king.
- Job waited for years for his restoration after losing his wife, children and all that he had.
- Even Jesus, waited for the right time for His ministry.
Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously; for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
Habakkuk 1:5
God has promised to do great and marvellous things in our lives as we wait upon Him.
As women, society is usually harsh towards us in our adversities. We are given all sorts of names from friends, in-laws and family members. Thus, our waiting period is usually characterized by all sorts of advice and suggestions from all angles. Some will suggest divorce when we are going through a difficult marriage. Some will suggest adultery, this native doctor or that spiritualist etc, in our desperate search for conception and child-bearing.
It is very important that we find peace in Christ in our hearts and wait upon the Lord.
While we wait, we need to prepare ourselves by:
- Studying the Word of God to build our faith in Him.
- Read Christian books and attend marriage seminars if we are waiting to get married.
- If we are waiting parents, we need to learn how to bring up responsible children in the fear of the Lord.
- If we are waiting for a job, we need to take courses to learn a skill to build our CVs.
There are many things to do to build ourselves physically and spiritually while in God’s Waiting Room.
It is also important that we prepare our hearts to accept God’s answer for the wait. God’s answer may not always be as we want.
We must therefore, understand that God is God, and He knows best and has our best interest at heart.
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for reminding me that I am not alone, waiting for the fulfilment of your word in my life.
Dear Lord, please help me not to listen to the loud voices around me and to stay patiently for your answer.
Lord help me to accept your answer in good faith, even if it is not what I want,
Father Lord, in your presence, there is fullness of joy.
Please grant me the grace to endure the pain of waiting upon you to see the manifestation of your promise in my life.
In my waiting, Lord help me to humble myself to be perfected to your glory
Scripture Reading
Acts 16:17-32, Isaiah 40:31
Psalm 27:14; Habakkuk 2:3
💑 💑 💑 💑 💑 💑 💑 💑
Maa Adjoa replies to the post by a thank you and lots of kissing emoji, and then she flips through the chat threads to see if there is something else to note. She gets out of bed and enters the washroom. She has to get ready for jogging.
Maa Adjoa puts on the clothes she has picked the previous night for jogging and slips into her comfortable sneakers. She walks to the mirror to fix her hair. She sees the glow on her face and smiles.
It is evident she is happy she has found love again. She admits this feeling in her heart and body for Lexis is far more intense and different from what she has ever known. She knows her time in God’s waiting room is almost over and is happy things are working out for her at such an exhilarated pace.
There is a gentle knock and her door and she knows Lexis is ready for their time together.
She opens the door to a smiling Lexis holding freshly picked flowers for her. He greets her with a peck on the two cheeks and her lips and hands the flower to her. Maa Adjoa dashes inside after muttering her thanks and expressing her gratitude for the kind and thoughtful gesture on his part.
She places the fresh flowers in a vase of water and hurries back to the love of her life.
They walk hand in hand for a while and then they break into a jog.
They go through the normal route and end up in the woods. Maa Adjoa stops to catch her breath and then she remembers the day she met Lexis. She had been leaning against the same three when she noticed Lexis pretending to tie his sneaker lace that day.
Lexis has stopped beside her and coincidentally he is also thinking about the same thing.
“You remember this scene, right?” he asks, moving closer and wearing his feelings like a jacket.
“I sure do, Lex, only this time you are not pretending to catch my attention. You have my attention twenty-four seven and there is not a single day I don’t thank God for bringing someone like you my way.”
“I’m glad you feel that way.” He says and takes her hand.
He guides her hand to the pocket on his sleeveless hoodie and her hand brushes against something like a box. He urges her to take it out and tell him what she thinks of it.
She brings out the box and stares at it. Her heartbeat is already quickening with so much emotion. She opens the box and its contents. It is a necklace. She has tears in her eyes as she reads the inscription that has been engraved and decorated with diamonds on the flat shining gold metal that has been fixed as the pendant of the necklace.
“Marry Lexis?”
Maa Adjoa looks up at him with tears in her eyes. His eyes are expectant. She is trying to speak but nothing is coming out.
“If you say yes, I will give you this,” Lexis says and shows her the ring he has brought out from his shorts pocket. “And if you say no, I will kiss you to change your mind.”
“I love you so much, Lexis. I love you with every fibre of me and YES, I will marry you.”
He closes the tiny gap between them and kisses her long and deep as he slides the ring on her finger.
