EPISODE 12

Maa Adjoa is nervous.

She is in her living-room with her best friend Faustina. It is her turn on the Hot Seat that day in the Klever Chatroom and it is only an hour or so to the time. She has done everything to calm her nerves but whatever she is doing is not working.

She is contemplating backing out but Faustie is making it very difficult for her by calling her silly names just by trying to opt out of the program.

There is a movie showing on the big flat-screen TV in the living- room but she is not paying much attention. Faustie, on the other hand, seems to be enjoying it.

Maa Adjoa looks on her phone and sees that the chatroom occupants are at what they do best. She shudders when she remembers some of the provocative questions she has seen people asking during the Hot Seat in previous sessions.

She sees Nana Amoah, the moderator of the Hot Seat session typing and her nervousness peaks because of the acute fear that has suddenly eclipsed her.

Maa Adjoa looks at the time and realizes the moment of truth has finally come.

“Just be yourself, Maj. You don’t have to hide anything. Talking about things openly helps. I’m sure you are afraid Kwamena’s issue will come up and that’s why you seem to be fretting. Is that not it?”

“Oh no. I’m totally over Kwamena. It’s not about him, it’s just like stage fright, I guess. I don’t want to lose my cool in the Chatroom. Sometimes the questions are very provocative and there are always counter posts to people’s answers.”

Maa Adjoa posts a detailed profile of herself and members present ask questions on the personal information she has provided. There are questions on the number of siblings she has, her parents and the schools she attended and what she does for a living. Everything seem to be cruising fine and all the nerves she felt before the program vanish.

We have one of the best curricula in the world, I must say. The problem has to do with implementation but I don’t blame teachers much. The resources needed for implementation are lacking and other factors like poverty, parental neglect etc are making it close to impossible to achieve the set targets as far as education is concerned.

Hmmm, this is a tough one. Just thinking about it breaks my heart. I guess I will make her see that it’s something someone took from her so she should not blame herself in any way. She should strive against the odds and make something out of her life. I will let her see that the only revenge you can give someone who doesn’t want you to succeed is to succeed. I’ll also encourage her to report to the police if she hasn’t already.
