EPISODE 14

Maa Adjoa is on her way to the party.

Lexis keeps calling and texting. He can’t seem to relax. Maj responds to his tenth call.

“Where are you, love?”

“I’m almost there, honey. Just a bit of traffic but I’m almost there.”

“You know, I shouldn’t have listened to you. I should have picked you up myself. Your delay is really getting me worried. I can’t function well without you here. Faustie and her fiancé just walked in. and you are not here yet. I really hate parties. You have to smile even when you are not happy and everybody expects you to be nice to them. Meanwhile all I want to do is kiss you.”

“Me too. Will be there in a minute or two. Just close your eyes and imagine me there. That’s what I do when I miss you too much.”

“Alright, but just hurry, okay? Can’t wait to flaunt you and hey, drive safe!”

“I will, Lex!”

Maa Adjoa looks at her time and she is not even late but she can understand Lexis’ frustrations. He did not like the party idea from the word go but she had convinced him to accept his mother’s offer since she would have been heartbroken if he had turned her down.

Mrs. Bamford has insisted on doing something for her only child before he finally gets married. She knows she has to give them their privacy when they are married and thinks it is just best she does something for her son before he begins his journey into marriage.

Maa Adjoa takes the last turn to the huge house and sees the house right ahead looking exquisite as usual.

She hears loud music and sees a lot of cars parked outside the huge gates. The gates are open though and she sees Lexis at the entrance exchanging pleasantries with some guests who had obviously just arrived. He sees her and rushes towards her car. A special place has been reserved for her and she maneuvers the car into the space.

Lexis is already at the door and opens it for her. She steps out with a broad smile. Lexis pulls her close and kisses her.

“Now I can breathe because you are here!”

“Okay, handsome. Let’s go meet our guests.”

The whole place is bursting with one activity or the other when they enter the compound. There are pretty girls all over the place and Maa Adjoa feels a little bit uncomfortable. Some are in the pool, others are moving from one place or the other looking for God knows what.

Lexis introduces the people he knows personally to her and then greet the rest he barely knew. He explains that his cousins have come with friends and acquaintances and his mom has invited the wards of his friends and school mates.

Everything goes well and Maj admits it is a terrific party by all standards. Lexis’ mom had introduced her to the whole guests present as Lexis’ fiancée and she had been simply elated.

Gradually, all the guests leave and Lexis tries to convince her to stay the night but she knows it will only lead to one thing so she politely declines.

He takes her to her car after Maa Adjoa talks to his parents and waits for her to drive off.

He wanders off to the garden for a while and then heads for his room a bit down-hearted. Lexis doesn’t think it will be nice to leave to the apartment right after the party.

He takes the stairs two at a time to exercise and gets to his door panting for breath. He smells a familiar perfume and shrugs. That must be his cousin, he thinks, she has flown all the way from the States to grace the occasion. It is not like she had a choice anyway.

Lexis’ mom is very persuasive and now she has to wait for their wedding which is a few weeks away before going back.

He turns the knob to his door and enters.

“Surprise!”

Lexis is confused for a minute as he stares at the almost naked woman sitting with her legs crossed on his bed.

“Annabel?”

“Hello handsome. Miss me?

“What are you doing here?”

“You didn’t think I would let this fun pass me, did you? Came all the way to deliver my birthday present in person.” She says and walks seductively to Lexis.

She is wearing only a lacy bra and G-string that exposes every inch of her incredibly voluptuous body. Lexis is dumbfounded. She throws her arms around him and tries to kiss him but Lexis pulls back, still confused.

“Awww, don’t be like this. That’s not how you welcome your girlfriend, is it?” she purrs seductively.

He pulls her arms from around his neck slowly and takes a step away from her.

“Put on your clothes, Annie. I don’t want you to get any ideas into your head. We are not doing this. I love someone else and we are getting married in a few weeks.”

“Tell me something I don’t know, Lex. You are a free man until you are pronounced man and wife, now stop behaving like a child and come to mama. I know you miss my body. It used to be your haven, you know, and I’m offering it back to you this night as your birthday gift. Are you going to turn down a lady’s offer?”

“I’m not going to argue with you over this, Annie. Just get out of my room.”

“Really? You want to play hard to get with me? Wow! I can’t believe what I’m hearing and seeing. I must have lost my touch. You are turning me down after travelling over twelve hours to get here just to be with you?”

Lexis turns to leave then but Annabel grabs his hand from behind and try to put them on her breast…the breasts he had liked so much during their time together.

He tries to pull away but she is very persistent and then his door opens.

Maa Adjoa stands at the door with her present in hand, shocked to the bone. She has remembered when she was a few minutes away that she had not given Lexis’ gift to him and turned back knowing it wouldn’t be nice if she had given it to him later.

Lexis pushes Annabel away in one swift move and then he is already at the door.

“This is not what it looks like, Adjoa. I came in to meet her here and I’m trying to get her out. Trust me. I won’t do anything to hurt you. Please believe me.”

Maa Adjoa looks at the half naked woman in the room and the still clothed Lexis standing before her with fear in his eyes. It really doesn’t look like what it seems.

She thinks it can be one of those coincidences that if not managed carefully can ruin everything even though they are fake.

One single look in Lexis’ pleading eyes and she is convinced he has not dishonoured her in any way. She steps outside onto the long corridor to the rooms. Lexis follows her and closes the door.

“Let’s say I believe you, who is she anyway?”

“We dated a while back abroad. She made it categorically clear that she is not the settling down type and will never marry. She did not understand why people will choose to settle down with one person for the rest of their lives when they could get a dozen more so we parted ways. I don’t know how she got here but she might have heard of the party from my cousin and decided to be here. I love only you, Adjoa.”

“Well, I came to give you this. Happy birthday, Lexis!” Maj says and hands the box to him and turns to leave.

Lexis grabs her hand and turns her to face him. He looks directly into her eyes.

“Tell me, you believe me please. I need you to say it.”

“I do Lexis. Yes, I believe you. I love you too.”

He kisses her hungrily. “I want, need and love only you, Adjoa. I don’t need anybody else.”

“My love, I know. I want you too but it has to be done right. We have only a few weeks to go, I know the urge is strong but I want to give my body to you as your wife.”

Lexis pulls her closer and just holds her, relieved. He decides to drive her home after getting Annabel out of his room.

Later, the love-bitten couple spend the night on Adjoa’s balcony talking and cuddling throughout as they stare into the beautiful starry night with hope and a love that knows no bounds.
