The Last Kiss is served…
EUNICE ANSAH-AGYEMAN
THE LAST KISS
EPISODE 21
It is Monday morning.
Alicia drops off Curtis at his workplace.
The two have decided to ride to work together that week.
They agreed to take turns to drop and pick the other for the week just to spend more time together.
Cynthia on the other hand is running out of patience.
She had given some money to a cleaner of the hotel in Tamale to put one of her panties and a used condom in Curtis’ things hoping to hear from either a fuming Curtis or a suspicious Alicia but that has not happened.
One plan is for Curtis to find it and rush to her place in anger to give it back so she can seduce him one last time and if he fails her, she is going straight to the police with rape charges. Somehow, she thinks the rape charge will carry more weight if the incident is said to have happened in the victim’s house.
The other plan is for Alicia to find it and get jealous. She wants to sow the seeds of doubts in Alicia’s head, and that is why she paid a waiter to take pictures of them during breakfast. She has taken the first step by sending those pictures to Alicia that morning. Yes, she is sure the discovery of the panty and bra will make Alicia think about what she told him about getting together with Curtis and eventually cloud her judgement.
She has waited for more than two hours and still nothing has happened.
Knowing Curtis, he will unpack his things immediately he gets back so she is not sure what game he has up his sleeve.
She has only one option and that is to call Alicia and do her best to sow the seeds of doubts in her mind.
Once she succeeds in doing that, Curtis will have no option than come back to the drawing table. She desperately needs Curtis back in her life and that will only happen if Alicia leaves him.
She picks up her phone and dials Alicia’s number, a number Omar has given her without sweat.

She answers it.
“I think my underwear mistakenly got in Curtis’ bag. Was wondering if you can tell him to bring it over when coming to my place this evening as arranged.”
“Oh, yeah? Wake up from your troubled slumber, ok? The days you wound Curtis around your finger with your silly ways are over. He’s not interested in you and the sooner you allow that to sink into your metal skull the better. That way you will save yourself all these schemes that only expose your desperation. I know you planted the underwear in his things. How desperate can you be?
Why are you wasting your energy on a man who has made it clear that he wants nothing to do with you? Why didn’t you call him instead since you claim he’s your lover? You are just trying to create a rift between us but I won’t give you that satisfaction. Curtis is a true gentleman. I’m sure he is not picking your silly calls that’s why you called me in the first place. You are so bent on separating us you are humiliating yourself instead. Move on, will you? I’m really getting tired of your stupid ways.”
“My stupid ways? You are the stupid one sitting there and thinking he loves you. Well he doesn’t. He still loves me. He told me every time he makes love to you, he thinks of me!”
“Oh really, why aren’t you his wife then, huh? Oh, let me guess, because he loves you so much, right?”
“I don’t have time for your nonsense, lady. I want that panty back. It’s one of my favourites.”
“Come and get it. It’s in the trash can outside my home. Just hurry before the waste company comes to pick up the trash.”
“In a trash can? How stupid can you be? I will get you for this. Mark it on the wall.”
“Really? Bring it on, silly! I’m ready!”
Alicia cuts the call before Cynthia says anything else.
Cynthia on the other hand is fuming with rage.
She is so angry Alicia has seen through her ploy.
Desperately, she looks for a way to separate Curtis and Alicia at all cost.

The police station is a little crowded when Cynthia walks in.
Shyky, she walks to the counter and greets.
“Good morning, officer.”
“Morning, how may I help you?” the smartly-dressed police woman asks.
“Well, just want to get a little information on an issue. Can you still report a rape case when it happened a while ago? What I mean is can it hold any water if it didn’t happen the day of the report?”
“Sure, it can. I hate rapists and I’m sure most woman do. Who is the bastard here? Let’s get the report down and I promise you I’ll make sure he rots in jail for a long time.”

Cynthia smiles. It seems she is in luck. It’s payback time for Curtis for treating her like a common whore at the hotel. All she wanted was to help him but he is so silly he turned her down and even disgraced her in front of the security personnel.
The police woman who gives her name as Celestina pushes a statement form to Cynthia and guides her to pen down her ordeal.
Cynthia breaks down in tears half way through the statement and Celestina has to console her and urge her to bring the perpetrator to book.
When it is done, the police woman gives her a form for a doctor’s examination and report.
Cynthia has it all planned. She has already called a doctor friend for that service for payment in kind.
Cynthia takes the form, thanks the officer and walks out with joy in her heart.
The thought that Curtis’ reputation will be dented by her actions gives her satisfaction and just imagining the look of shock on Alicia’s face makes her day. She is bent on getting back at them at all cost.
She drives straight to the hospital.
Her doctor friend is all ready for her.
“Hi, beautiful!”
“Hi!”
“You only come to me when you need something. Anyway, it’s always a pleasure serving you. So, are you paying in cash or in kind?”
“What would you prefer?”
“Cash. I want you to give yourself to me when you want it. I don’t want you to feel like you have to. It’s more fun when there’s mutual need, you know?”
“I hear you. Just name your price.”
The doctor takes the form, asks questions as he fills in the blanks.
He completes it in no time, appends his signature and stamps it.
He puts it in an envelope and seals it after Cynthia has checked the content.
“Did this guy really rape you?”
“Yes, why will I lie about something like that? I wasn’t ready, I begged him to stop but he did not listen. That is rape, right?”
“Okay. He has to pay for his actions.”
He hands over the envelope to Cynthia.
She takes fresh notes from her bag and drops them on the table.
“Will that be enough for your trouble?”
“I should think so. Can I examine you?
Cynthia scowls.
“Why would you want to do that?”
“Just to confirm there’s been sexual activity and most importantly to feel you get wet by my touch.”
“Don’t be a pervert. We will surely have sex, but not today. Right now, I need to get this back to the police station. We can arrange to meet later on in the week.”
“Sure. Enjoy a blissful day, my dear!”
Cynthia picks her bag and leaves the doctor’s office.

Curtis is sitting behind his desk in the office. He stretches his neck and rolls it around to free it from the tension from straining it since he came in.
He has just finished his report on the Tamale trip and completed all the urgent schedules that were waiting for him on his desk.
Slowly, he gets up and walks to the table in the corner with coffee ingredients on it.
He picks a saucer and a tea cup from the cabinet, sets it on the table, pours hot water in the cup and scoops one teaspoons full into the cup.
Leisurely, he stirs the contents in the cup whiles he reminisces on the wonderful weekend he has just shared with Alicia.
He relives every kiss, every touch and every caress.
Frankly, he admits he never seems to get enough of Alicia. His thirst for her kisses are never quenched and his hunger for her sweet citadel is never satisfied.
It’s been the most wonderful weekend they’ve ever had and now he is sure Alicia has put the HIV scare behind her. He has his Alicia back and that’s all that matters.
Quickly, he goes down to the reception after sipping his tea in relish to quiz the Executive Assistant on who else knew about his flight details.
“No one else, sir. Everyone knew you were travelling for a period but the flight and hotel details were confidential.”
“Are you really sure of that? My flight and hotel details were compromised. You wouldn’t have anything to do with that, would you? Let me warn you, if you lie to me and the truth comes out, it will cost you your job!”
Curtis is getting angry now.

Somehow, he suspects the girl sitting right behind the reception desk and staring at him nervously but lying through her teeth.
He has seen some exchanges in body language between her and Omar any time he came around. He will not be surprised if Omar is going out with her. And he is sure she leaked his travel details to him.
The secretary says nothing!
She drops her stare as tears form in her eyes.
Curtis just stares at the otherwise well-behaved secretary with his patience running out.
He repeats his warning and waits.
Two policemen enter the reception area and Curtis looks at them with raised eyebrows.
They greet and ask to see Curtis Owusu-Mensah.
The secretary and Curtis exchange worried looks.
“I’m Curtis. How may I help you?” Curtis replies confidently.
“I’m afraid you will have to come to the station with us to answer a few questions on a case we are investigating.” one of the policemen answers.
“May I know which case that is?” Curtis enquires,
“You will know when we get to the station. You need to come with us now!”
“Don’t I have a right to know what you are picking me up for?”
“Well since you are so insistent, it’s about a rape case levelled against you by one Cynthia….”
“You must be kidding me. Rape? Who raped who?”
“We don’t have time for this. We have orders to bring you in. Don’t force us to use the cuffs on you. Everything will be explained when we get to the station. Come with us now!”
Curtis looks at the police officers confused.
He gives orders to the secretary to put his personal belongings together and call his wife.
He follows the two policemen outside to the waiting police jeep.
Curtis tries to get answers from the two policemen without success.
One officer opens the back door and pushes Curtis inside, a bit roughly.
The other starts the engine and waits for his partner to join him in the front and then takes off.
Casandra, the Executive Assistant in Curtis’ workplace is at her wits’ end.
She has given Omar information on Curtis’ travel and hotel details when he had indicated that the friends wanted to surprise him in the north.
She had not seen anything wrong with it at the time but the turn of events makes her very suspicious of Omar.
From the little she gathered from the police men who came to pick Curtis, the rape incident is believed to have taken place in the North, during the company’s retreat for management and the fact that Cynthia is involved is what is unsettling her.
She remembers Omar had come to the office that day with a Cynthia, whom he had introduced as his fiancée.
She is aware by Curtis’ interrogation before the police arrived that something unpleasant must have happened.
Curtis’ anger for the first time towards her that morning really frightens her.
The police have mentioned rape as the reason for picking him up.
She needs to speak to Omar urgently.
She looks in the visitor’s register, picks his number and dials with the office line.
No answer.
She picks her cell phone and dials the number.
It goes unanswered.
She quickly writes a message and sends without thinking twice.
Shortly afterwards, Omar calls back.
“Hey Cassie, what did you mean by Curtis was picked up by the police? What did he do?”
“I’m not sure. They said something about a Cynthia pressing rape charges against him and I remember giving you his flight and hotel details. You wouldn’t know anything about this, would you? Did you lie to me to get those details from me? Did you set Curtis up?”
“What are you saying, Cassie? You know I care about you even though you are still playing hard to get. I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise your work. You have to trust me on that.”
“I don’t know why I feel I made a very big mistake by leaking his travel details. I don’t think Curtis is capable of raping any one. I’m really scared.”
“You shouldn’t be, dear. I’m sure whatever happened has nothing to do with you.”
“But you were here with a Cynthia …”
“No, please stop thinking too much. That Cynthia is a friend of mine, I just wanted to make you jealous that was why I brought her. You know what, let me get down to the police station and see what’s going on, okay?”
Omar asks for the details of the police station and cuts the call.
He is worried. He does not believe Cynthia would do something like that to Curtis. Accuse him of rape? No, that will be going too far.
He put a call through to Kobby to find out if he has heard about Curtis’ plight.
And he replies in the negative.
They two friends decide to meet and go to the police station together.
