The fierce whisper brought goose pimples to Nneka’s skin, and the room suddenly became so cold that the glass pane of the windows frosted over! Nneka fell backward and landed on the floor, looking all around her with fear, expecting to see the spirit of Jhon Moziz, but she knew deep within her that this had not been Jhon Moziz!
It had been a different entity altogether!
And so she stayed on the floor and watched as Temi’s body shook, time after time, and scream after tortured scream burst out of his mouth, and when Nneka could not take it anymore she stood up and fled from the room with her hands across her ears so that she could not hear the agony of the prince!
And tears fell down her face in torrents as she fled because she wanted so much to help him, to help assuage his pain, to make him be aware that she was there for him, and yet she couldn’t!
That terrible whisper had stopped…and she was terrified because it seemed Temi was dying!
“Come back, Temi, oh, please come back!” Nneka Okez wailed as she fled blindly from the room, and away from his screams.

And in the Land of Bliss, on the lake, inside the circular burning wall, the Impartation was still on!
The spirits of the past kings came at Temi, one after the other, smashing into him, causing excruciating and agonizing pain, and then exiting his body!
It wasn’t a pain that he grew used to. On the contrary, it seemed to get increasingly more devastating and agonizing until he could not stand any longer, and he dropped to his knees!
Still, they passed through him, hazy spirits that came again and again, causing pain that was threatening to drive him mad, forcing him to drop first on his buttocks, and then finally flat on his back.
However, even though his body could not take it, and his screams of pain erupted time and again, one thing remained constant: he never once let his fingers slip from the metallic pole!

Even when his mind screamed at him to stop it, to give in, to let the pain stop and give his body respite, his fingers remained curled around the pole as he held on tenaciously!
Finally, he seemed to hear a great voice from far off, and slowly he opened his eyes and saw his father kneeling by his side, still in a spiritual form, no longer solid, his face filled with love and fear.
“Temi, my son, can you hear me?” he asked in an unsteady voice, his father filled with great concern.
“Yes, Papa, your voice keeps me company!” Temi whispered and forced himself to sit up.
The fire was gone, and so were the black circle and the pole.
He looked dazedly at his father.
“How did I do, Papa?” he asked weakly.
His father was looking at him with awed and proud eyes mixed with great love and happiness.
“Perhaps, the greatest of all Dayan Kings has just been born,” King Demi said proudly. “Your hand never left the pole, my son. You took all of them on. Tenacity is your bane, and perhaps that is why you’ve been selected to redeem the Dayo Empire, because you never ever give up, Temidayo my son!”
It was Temidayo’s turn to smile beautifully.
“So, I’m now a warrior?” he asked dazedly.
His father nodded.
“Yes, my son,” he said gently. “The strongest and most skilful warrior in Dayo, amongst all the kings.”
“I’m glad,” Temi said proudly, and then his face clouded with sudden fear. “But where are the rest? Why are you still in a spiritual form, Papa?”
A sad expression crossed King Demi’s face.
“It is done, my son, and it is time to part ways,” he said.
“No!” Temi screamed, jumping to his feet and looking at his father with a shattered expression as tears instantly coursed down his face. “Why? No, no, no! Jhon Moziz said I will have seven days with you! Surely, it is not seven days yet! There are things I need to learn from you!”
King Demi shook his head sadly.
“It is done when the Creator says it is done, my son!” he said, his voice breaking. “Now, I must go home. My days with you have been my happiest, my son! But now, you have the destiny to fulfil!”
“No!” Temi screamed in anguish, his tears falling faster. “I need you here! Please, Papa, tarry with me for a while longer!”
“Temi!” King Demi said sharply. “We never question the ways of the Creator of All Things, never! You must go now! Tell your mother, my love Kelly Philip, and your sister, my precious Uvbi Akenzua, that I shall wait for all of you in the next life, and that I love them very much! Live full, live free, live happy, my dearest son!”
And then, as Temi watched, the blue skies parted, and a great golden stairway slowly descended from the skies. His tears fell stronger when he saw the spirits of the past kings waiting on the stairway, adorned in wonderful garments, looking so handsome and resplendent!
Temidayo nodded gravely, his young heart breaking with the pain he was feeling.
“Go, Papa!” he whispered quaveringly. “I love you, Papa! I love you so much!”
And for once King Demi could not speak, because even though he was in a spiritual form, his eyes seemed very shiny and weird as if he were crying too.
He turned slowly and glided toward the stairway, and as he went his form began to change into a more solid composition. His warrior’s apparel changed into a glorious gold and white garment, and a golden crown appeared on his head. He stopped at the foot of the stairway and turned, and tears glistened on his cheeks and in his eyes like diamonds.

“I love you, my son!” he said. “Your father is so proud of you. To me was born a great one…the greatest!”
All the kings waved, and Temi waved back as his body shook with tears. Suddenly, King Demitayo Oliseh stepped forward and threw something into the air.
Temi gasped when he saw the two short swords in their scabbard hurtling toward him, turning end over end, glinting beautifully in the daylight.
The golden stairway lifted slowly, and retracted graciously into the sky, and was gone suddenly.
The two swords stopped in front of Temidayo, hanging in the air vertically.
Temi brushed tears from his eyes, then he reached out with both hands and took the swords. A most glorious smile split his handsome face as he suddenly fell into a fighting stance with the two swords, and then a moment later he stood tall, and put the swords across his back in the form of an ‘X’ with the hilts sticking out across each shoulder for a quick draw, just like he had seen King Demitayo Oliseh wearing them.
And he cut a very fine and grand figure indeed as he stood on the lake!
Suddenly, the bright daylight began to dim, as if darkness were approaching, and he still stood looking around him with sad eyes. He knew he was leaving the Land of Bliss now. The next time he came here, he would be with his son to meet those wonderful kings.
Here he had found love, a father, a lifetime of happiness.
But now he had to leave.
He had a destiny to fulfil, an empire to save.
He was the Chosen One of the Dayan race.
“I am Temidayo David Dayo, the Dayan heir,” he whispered as the darkness engulfed him. “I am ready. Come, destiny, I’m ready for you. Come, foes, face me if you dare.”
