CHAPTER 5
“What?” Neji Helen whispered with sudden fright, her face widening with fear and great agitation. “No, no, please, don’t say that!”
“You’re pregnant, Neji Helen,” Jhon Moziz said, and his voice was filled with sadness. “It makes you unclean to go through the Gateway because the spirit of the child inside you does not want to go.”
Neji Helen burst into uncontrollable tears as she stepped toward him and put a hand on his shoulder.
“You’re to be blamed, Jhon Moziz!” she cried dejectedly. “You took away my memories, and you made my family rich and prosperous! The prince of the town came calling, and he selected me to be his bride! I gladly married him, and I do like him a lot, but I don’t love him, Jhon Moziz.
I don’t love my husband! It is Temi I love, and will always love! You take me to Temi, and I’ll explain things to him. I know he will understand. Believe me, Jhon Moziz, I didn’t know I’m with child!
We’ve been trying, yes, but month after month I do get my flow. This month, it is not time yet for my flow, and so I have not missed it. Please, do forgive me! But I must go to Temi…I must!”

“Neji Helen, believe me, if it were possible, I would remove the foetus in your womb just to enable you to go through this Gateway! But lives are from the Creator, and I have no control over the baby you’re carrying, alas. In all things, the will of the baby will hold sway. I was counting on this so much to help the prince get out of his clout of grief and save us from the Apocalypse!” he said in a despaired voice.
“What are you talking about, please?” Neji asked with tears streaming down her face. “Please, I beg of you! Send me to Temi! If indeed I’m pregnant, I’ll give birth, I know Temi will accept my baby. I know you can make the prince of Asawka, my husband, forget all about me, and he will marry somebody more deserving and who loves him.
But my life is with Temi, and you know that! I love Temi with every little bit of my life, Grand Oracle. I beg of you, make it possible! Oh, I can’t live without my heart, my Temi, and you know that!”
“I do know that, Neji!” Jhon Moziz said weakly. “But alas, because of the child inside you, it is not possible for you to enter the Gateway because the spirit of the child wants to be here. If we force it, both of you will die. I’m so sorry for everything I did to you, Neji Helen. Do forgive me, but it is impossible for you to be with the prince of Dayo.”
“No!” Neji Helen screamed and sank to her knees, her head bowed. “Do not do this to me, I beg of you! Do not kill the very soul within me again, Jhon Moziz. Don’t make me live a life of pain and strife, keeping a man I do not love company for eternity!”
“Alas, it is out of my hands,” Jhon Moziz said sadly. “Out of my powers too. But do not worry, my dear. I’ll take your memories again, and you’ll go back to the life you shared with this earthling prince of yours. You’ll no longer feel this pain again after I take the memories of Temi away again.”
“No!” Neji shouted and got to her feet, moving far away from the Grand Oracle. “Don’t you dare take my memories again! I want to keep my memories of my time with Temi, and maybe, if there’s another life, I’ll be reunited with him, somewhere, somehow!
Oh, remember a lot now! You go and tell my Temi that I live, and I breathe him! You’re free now, and so I know he wields the Royal DayoSword! Restore his memories, and he will find a way to come for me! His heart beats as mine, and we will always find a way to each other!”
Jhon Moziz hesitated, and then there was another violent kick to his back, and the Gateway began to shimmer!
It was closing up!
“Fare thee well, Neji Helen of Asawka!” he whispered gently. “Yes, keep the memories of your prince. And yes, maybe in another dimension, another planet, and another life, you and Temi will find your way to each other! Dayo is eternally grateful to you and your family!”
“You tell Temi I still wait, Grand Oracle!” Neji Helen said with a pain that threatened to tear her heart apart. “Restore his memories, Jhon Moziz, and tell him I wait. Tell him to come and get me!”
Neji Helen stayed pressed against the wall as the Grand Oracle sadly flew into the Gateway. It shimmered for a moment, and with a cry of sheer pain, she stumbled toward the Gateway blindly.
“Temi, Temi, my love, wait for me, I’m coming!” she cried and launched herself at the Gateway.
But it vanished, and she crashed into the wall rather solidly.
She fell down on the cot, Temi’s cot, and grabbed his pillow, and then she began to weep pitifully.
“Neji, my Neji, my pumpkin, what ails you like this, huh?” Segun Osuolale’s voice came to her as he came through the doorway. “We were having dinner. I searched for you everywhere! What are you doing here? Why are you in so much pain?”
Neji stood up with a cry of pain and flew into her father’s arms, and he held her tightly.
“I’m okay, Baba,” she whispered. “I’m simply feeling happy. Your grandchild comes soon!”
“Ah, I knew the gods of our ancestors will smile down at us, and we will not be shamed!” Segun said with a happy laugh. “The prince, your husband, has been glorified!”
“It is well, Baba!” Neji whispered as she squeezed her father, and as she closed her eyes, she felt Temi’s arms around her, his sweet lips on hers.
Yes, these were memories she would always cherish, for eternity, till she saw him again, somewhere, somehow, one day.
“Oh, Temi, my Temi…how do I live without you?” she whispered to herself, and her tears of anguish fell.

The Gateway was burning fiercely now, and in desperation and fear, Prosper Freeman thrust the rod repeatedly into it.
“Is he coming out, goddamn it?” Suncity asked with obvious agitation.
“I don’t bloody know!” Prosper shouted as he kept thrusting, and then the Gateway began to shake and become smaller.
“Oh damn, damn, damn!” Suncity groaned in agony, and then just as it closed completely the body of the Grand Oracle was hurled forcibly out of the hole to smash against the Rock of Redemption.
The lower part of his robes was burning furiously. Prosper and Suncity rushed at him and began beating frantically at the flames, and eventually, it went out.
“What the hell kept you, old man?” Suncity asked with relief.
Prosper helped the Grand Oracle to his feet and handed the staff back to him.
“You had us scared, Grand Oracle,” Prosper said.
“I know,” Jhon Moziz said. “Sorry about that. Had a bit of a complication.”
“I see she refused to come through,” Suncity observed coldly, and the Grand Oracle shook his head sadly.
“Oh, poor girl, she wanted to come through alright,” he said. “A love as strong and as pure as she has for the prince I have never seen anywhere.”
“So, why isn’t she here?” Prosper enquired, intrigued.
“Alas, it was a calamity. I was too late. She caught the eye of the prince of her village, married him, and she is now pregnant. I was bringing her through the Gateway, but the presence of the foetus in her made her unclean, and the Gateway rejected her.”
“She was willing to leave her husband, a prince, and come here to frolic with the Heir Apparent?” Suncity asked, shocked. “You mean that earthly hyena was callous enough and brave enough to want to leave her husband behind, and not only that, carry that accursed baby to our Heir Apparent?”
“Aye, aye, she was,” Jhon Moziz replied. “Quite amazing, isn’t it? And sad too, aye. But, I felt guilty, in a way, because I did what had to be done.”
“Why, did the Heir Apparent impale her with his royal lance whilst he was there?” Suncity enquired, evidently confused. “I’ve heard of how diabolical the kings of Dayo romp through women.
Perhaps, after lancing his way through this Neji Helen, her nether lips have developed the taste for the crazy sweetness of our prince, hence her insane madness to come through knowing perfectly she carries the ilk of another prince, albeit a useless prince at that!”
“Oh, don’t be gross!” Prosper shot at him with a dark look. “Your words are offensive and vexatious dampness to the soul! Love is not all about copulating!”
“Oh, yes, it is, my young friend!” Suncity said with a sneer. “The only good part about love is the copulating. The rest is sheer nonsense and just a vexation of the soul, as you mention. I don’t want love, but give me tons of the tender meat between the thighs of a woman, or a dozen women, and I’ll show them a love of a kind.”
“Everything about love is fractious if you ask me,” the Grand Oracle said.
“So, what now?” Prosper asked, unable to stand their jesting. “Here we are, unable to get the one woman who can help the Heir Apparent out of his lethargic and abysmal grief, and the Apocalypse still continue to rage! What do we do now?”
“That question makes me sore with fear, my brother,” Jhon Moziz said as he stopped and looked at Prosper. “As I stand here, I have never been more afraid for the future of the Dayan Empire and what evil waits for Earth. But, certainly, there is still hope somewhere. Let’s rest, and hope the morning brings a little clarity.”
Scared and uneasy, they approached their horses which had been tethered to the hitching rails at the entrance to the Dayo Square.
Prosper and Jhon Moziz mounted, but Emmanuel Suncity remained standing for a while, his face pensive.
“What ails you, Emma?” Jhon Moziz asked quietly. “I can feel that shady and dishonourable mind of yours working overtime. What ails you?”
Suncity looked up at the Grand Oracle thoughtfully.
“We can still have Neji Helen here, you know,” he said quietly.
The Grand Oracle raised his eyebrows and leaned forward.
“And how can the impossible be made possible in your estimation?” he asked softly.
“Yes, tell us, old man,” Prosper prompted. “How can that be?”
“Well, it just occurred to me, really,” Suncity began as he swung himself up on the saddle and sat on his horse. “When the Heir Apparent killed the evil anaconda Leke Olugbade Bally sent after us, I got two eyes of the vile beast for the Mimic Artefact. I used one to create the artefact for the prince and saved the other eye. And, yes, I still have it.”
“Oh, craps, you old, mad man!” Prosper whispered with excitement as he began to catch on.
“You mean you can create a Mimic Artefact in the image of Neji Helen?” Jhon Moziz asked softly.
“Well, not quite like that,” Suncity city said. “Now, if I get an image of how Neji looks like, I can create a Mimic Artefact that will transform whoever wears it into the exact image of Neji Helen in the sight of the Heir Apparent. However, Mimic Artefacts normally come with their own shapes, but if I force it to convey the image of Neji Helen, I’m not really sure it can portray the exact picture of her.”
“Oh, I now understand!” Jhon Moziz whispered with narrowed eyes. “Oh, yes, those visions I got, of Neji and Rose interchanging, interspersing…and I was not able to distinguish the two at a point in time. Indeed, by your words, it all makes sense to me now, yes, it does.”
“What?” Prosper asked curiously. “Anything we should know?”
