CHAPTER 27

Temi stretched out his hand, and the Royal DayoSword lifted off the ground and slammed into his hand with blinding speed, and immediately the whole ground rippled and shook with the most powerful of all earth tremors!

The red patch in the sky exploded with thunder and blinding flashes of lightning, and in a flash the whole sky changed from its whiteness to a bloodied red.

When Temi looked up, his eyes glinted, and once again they were devoid of color, and had become a couple of dense blackness with gold glints around them, making him look as terrible as he had ever been.

“Temi!” Rose breathed softly and took a step closer to the sizzling barrier as she wiped tears from her face, and felt a warm glow of pride spreading through her as she watched him…the man of her heart!

Temi was looking at Leke Bally.

The evil entity and his cohorts were now grouped opposite them, filling the air with their sheer numbers. Temi twirled the Royal DayoSword twice in his hand and dropped into a half-crouch.

The spirits of the past kings of Dayo and Daniel Godwin lined up behind him and dropped into similar postures, and all their eyes had become pitch black although none had the golden tinge that was present in Temi’s battle eyes.

Thunder boomed, and lightning sizzled across the red sky, and then a gentle rain began to fall on the grounds of The Ashes.

Leke Olugbade Bally roared in a great, unnatural voice, and suddenly the skin around him split open from head to toe, dividing into half, and out stepped a great fearsome monster, the real face of Leke Bally!

This creature stood about twelve feet tall, and it had four legs and four arms. Its face was a monstrous molten mass that kept changing shapes like there were a lot of demons inside him. The face changed from gnarled to smooth to ugly. His eyes flitted continuously, changing from single to double to three, changing shapes from vertical to horizontal to slanted to round to square…changing colors from green to yellow to red to rainbow…

The one thing that remained constant were the two savage horns on each side of his skull. When he bellowed, fire spurted out of his mouth, and smoke billowed from his trumpet-like ears.

“Kill them!” the Leke monster bellowed.

“We purge!” Temidayo said coldly. “Don’t let even one escape!”

“Hail!” the spirit kings behind him shouted.

And when Temi moved forward, he did not move like a human being because his legs barely touched the ground! He soared, and he looked like a spirit himself.

And so Rose stood and watched the most brutal battle she had ever witnessed unfolding right in front of her, a war between the evil dark forces on one hand, and the spirits of dead Dayan kings led by a teenaged boy on the other!

There was a relentless cacophony of blinding lightning and booming thunder, and the grounds rippled with devastating tremors!

Rose could see everything, but her side of the valley remained unaffected by the mayhem just in front of her!

Her eyes were on Temi as he clashed with the Leke Olugbade Bally monster!

The other kings and Daniel Godwin fell on the horrible principalities and forces of darkness, cutting them down with relentless fury, and leaving Temi to face his nemesis one on one!

And each demon that died was slammed into the Royal DayoSword in Temi’s hands, so even as he did battle, executed souls of demons and principalities kept slamming into the sword!

“You die, Dayan!” Leke Bally screamed in his booming canyon voice.

“What will be, will be, demon!” Temi hissed.

Leke Bally sent bolt after bolt of fire from his fingers and mouth at Temi, but the Dayan prince whirled and danced around them as he soared toward the demon.

“Taki!” Temi screamed as he somersaulted thrice in the air and brought the DayoSword smacking down on the right shoulder of the Leke monster!

Leke screamed in agony and grabbed Temi by the arm, and then flung him down hard on the ground. His massive hooves beat a staccato dirge as he stomped on Temi’s body ruthlessly, driving the prince into the white ground.

Watching, Rose was surprised by the fact that she was not scared to see Temi being driven into the ground by the sheer savagery of Leke Bally’s attack!

Somehow, she knew a more powerful force was with Temi, and she waited with bated breath so see what would happen.

She did not have long to wait!

Temi blasted out of the earth with an ear-splitting yell, turning over gracefully in the air, and then he sank the sword to the hilt into Leke Bally’s eye!

The demon had three eyes now, and the sword entered the middle one, bursting it!

Leke Bally let out a massive yell of tortured agony and tottered backward drunkenly as the massacre went on around him. The kings were too strong and too powerful for the forces of evil, and even now the numbers of Leke’s army had dwindled severely. Many tried to flee, but there was no escaping the confines of The Ashes as both the skies and all entrances were closed.

This was savagery in reality, a battle to the death!

Temi planted his legs against the shoulders of the screaming Leke, and then used it as leverage to push himself back, drawing out the sword from the eye of the demon.

Leke Bally bellowed again and swung his massive arm round, trying to deliver a head-splitting blow on Temi. The Dayan Prince flung himself into a graceful mid-air flip and spun with the sword in a devastating downward swing, catching Leke Bally at the elbow joint of his arm!

The sword sliced right through the arm of the Leke monster, cutting it off!

It smashed on the ground, and the stump of his hand gushed with a creepy, disgusting, thick green gooey!

The monster wailed this time, and it was evident that he was now scared…very scared!

Leke Olugbade Bally threw back his head and roared-wailed in a ferocious, thunderous voice that shook the ground, and then he leaned forward suddenly and his remaining three arms came together in a savage clap! Immediately the ground rumbled and blasted open with a horrible, shattering noise, the split running fast on the ground and splitting under Temi so that he fell into the great, yawning abyss in the ground!

Rose screamed shrilly and forgot where she was!

She rushed toward the entrance, scared at what was happening, and came up against the invisible barrier! She screamed with pain as the sizzling energy zapped her, sending her smashing down hard on the ground! Defying her pain, she got to her knees and looked at the battleground with horror!

Temi was still inside the deep abyss, and then Leke Bally clapped his hands again, and the two sides of the split ground came crashing together savagely and smoothed over, as if there had not been any crack in the ground at all!

“Nooooo!” Rose screamed with horror as her throat choked over, and for a moment she could not breathe, and she grabbed herself as a horrified wail locked deep in her throat!

Leke Bally had just buried Temi alive!

The spirits of the kings had stopped fighting now, and they were all looking at the spot Temi had vanished into the ground with appalled faces!

“Do something!” King Demi screamed at Jhon the Moziz with a tortured face. “Save him!”

Jhon the Moziz pointed his staff, but nothing happened, and he looked at the kings with a thunderstruck expression on his face.

“I’m terribly sorry…but…there’s nothing…nothing I can do!”

Leke Olugbade Bally threw back his head again and bellowed savagely.

“I’ll purge the systems of you and your Creator!” he screamed maniacally.

And then, suddenly, the ground rumbled, and a very bright light shot out of the ground and travelled upward!

The red skies burst open suddenly and a gigantic hand appeared in the sky and grabbed the ray of the white light!

“The light from the sword!” Rose screamed and pounded the ground with both happiness and horror as her tears fell, part in anguish and part with happiness!

“He lives!” the spirit of Peter Igwe Pedro whispered. “The prince lives!”

The giant hand in the sky pulled the bolt of light. The ground exploded outward in a shower of white particles!

And Temi emerged grasping the Royal DayoSword!

“Hail the king!” the spirit of King Oliseh shouted.

“Hail, hail, hail!” the past kings screamed and raised their weapons to the sky.

The huge hand disappeared, and Temi, grim-faced and wicked, began to walk toward the stunned and flummoxed Leke Olugbade Bally.

The evil monster clapped his hands again, and once more the ground split open in two halves underneath Temi, but the prince did not even look down!

“As empowered by the power of the sword of the Creator, the Royal DayoSword wielded by me, the hundredth Dayan prince, the youngest, the strongest as witnessed by the receipt of the most impartations, the fearless one, the catalyst of the Great Purge…me, Prince David Temitayo Dayo of Dayo…I will walk across the space beneath my feet as if I walk in the comfort of my bed!” he said boldly as he walked across the empty space beneath him.

“Sweet me!” Daniel Godwin whispered in awe, looking at Temi walking across the empty space without dropping. “He’s always been The One…the only One!”

“He recites the Prayer Of The Fates!” King Oliseh whispered.

“The Prayer of The Fates?” King Demi asked. “As in the Oracles?”

“Yes!” said Peter Igwe Pedro. “And as he recites the Prayer Of The Fates, his eyes will bear testimony of his unequaled power, and victory of The Purge will be handed to him!”

“His eyes?” Daniel asked, looking at Temi’s dark eyes with the gold tinges. “His eyes are the same!”

“You will walk on air?” Leke Olugbade Bally screamed shrilly with fire emerging from his throat. “You will burn in the air then!”

He clapped his hands, and suddenly a great horrible fire emerged from the depths of the grounds and enveloped Temi completely.

And although the fire was all around Temi, burning furiously, he continued to walk without bother, twirling the Royal DayoSword slowly and smiling a smile of death at Leke Bally!

And then they all saw it!

Deep in the hot fire, burning savagely, Temi’s warrior’s clothes remained intact, and as he looked at Leke Olugbade through the burning fire, his eyes changed!

They were no longer black with a golden tinge, but his eyes seem to have changed to flames!

It was as if fire was inside his eyes!

“And his eyes shall bear witness!” King Demi said softly. “His eyes have changed indeed!”

Leke Bally took scared steps back as Temi suddenly got to where he was standing.

“I am the Prince of Dayo!” Temi screamed, raised his leg, and kicked Leke Bally solidly in the chest!

The kick lifted Leke Bally into the air and flung him several meters away!

The ground closed up, and the fire died off!

But the fire in Temi’s eyes continued to burn!

“Get them!” Temi said.

“Hail!” the spirits around him shouted with awe and belief.

Temi was running when Leke Bally gained his feet. Temi spun and delivered a damaging kick into the solar plexus of the monster. Leke groaned with pain and doubled over.

He floundered wildly, but Temi was already dropping low and swinging his sword in a vicious arc that sliced through two legs of Leke Bally, cutting them off completely at the knees!

The monstrous demon wailed in agony and took several stumbling steps back and then crashed to the ground. Temi began to run toward the demon, and then he jumped into the air with the hilt of the sword held in both hands and drawn back so far that Temi’s body appeared to be arced horribly into a reverse C-shape!

As he landed on the chest of the Leke Bally beast, he brought the sword swinging forward in a wicked stab that went right through Leke Bally’s right eye!

The huge demon screamed and crashed down horribly on the ground. Temi pulled out the sword and swung himself sideways, slicing viciously through the remaining arms of the vile beast as he tried to knock Temi off his chest, and soon Leke Bally lay helpless with his arms cut off, and two of his eyes gouged out, leaving the left eye.

With a horrible wail, the vile monster sent blast after horrible blast toward Temi, but the Dayan Prince was spinning fast on the balls of his feet, twirling the Royal DayoSword and catching each blast in the sword.

He screamed suddenly and leapt into the air and then pointed the sword at the Leke Bally monster.

“Take my blast now, demon!” Temi whispered, and a blast of white energy shot from the sword and hammered into Leke Bally!

The monster wailed and screamed as his body was suffused by a horrible white fire that sizzled and cut into him with horrible cruelty!

Temi pointed the Royal DayoSword, and the white light consuming the demonic entity reversed and slammed back into the sword.

Leke Olugbade Bally lay helpless on the ground. Suffused with great pain, and filled with indescribable horror, his body burnt to gruesome proportions. His heart beat in the middle of his chest fast, and he looked at Temidayo with great fear.

“Please!” he said from a broken, burnt mouth. “Mercy! Spare my life, and I’ll never bother any Dayan or human again!”
