The Roommate Episode 5
A New Story © Eunice Ansah-Agyeman
Sabastian cursed when the alarm by his bedside sounded.
He had a splitting headache and he felt too exhausted to move.
Events of the previous night came flooding back, and he smiled when he remembered the part he came home to a waiting Mina and the resultant explosive lovemaking that followed.
He turned from facing the wall and was frozen instantly when he saw the person lying beside him with a slug smile on her face.
“What the f**king f**k? What are you doing here?” he asked, bouncing off the bed and pulling the duvet to cover his nakedness.
“That is not how you greet a lady who had sent you to heaven and back with pleasure,” Julie-Anna answered, still with that plastic smile of hers.
“Get the hell out of my bed? What have you done with Mina? Where is Mina?”
“Oh, get real for a second, will you? Which Mina are you referring to? I’m sure she is still asleep in her comfortable bed thinking about you. I want to see what she would do when she found out what happened between us.
“Wait, what are you insinuating? We didn’t …” Sabastian queried, the reality of the situation sinking in.
“Stop acting stupid, it doesn’t suit you. You know what happened between us and you can’t tell me you didn’t like it,” Julie-Anna said and got off the bed, showing off her nakedness. She walked seductively to the part of the bed where Sabastian was standing, his shock etched on his pitiful face and his heart racing when the enormity of what had just happened hit him hard.
“Truth it, no one had hit this jade gate the way you hit it, and I think a repeat wouldn’t be a bad idea. Why waste the time trying to make it look like it didn’t happen? I loved it very much and I want more,” she said as she ran her hand seductively across her jade gate.
“Get away from me, you daughter of Jezebel. Why did you stoop this low? I am intrigued, really. What is your game plan, Julie f**king witch? Is it the money? Is that why you did not think for a second about how Mina, the one person who sacrificed her privacy when she took you in, would feel about a betrayal like this?”
“Oh, come off your high horse, Bastian. You and I know that a wet p**sy has no conscience. Don’t judge me. I find you attractive. You should be happy. And when did it become a sin to want to be loved, huh? I’m not asking for much here, Bae. All I want is a tiny bit of your attention, and yes, some money to get by. Mina does not have to know about this. What she does not know cannot kill her so stop making it look like I have put a knife to her throat. All I did was borrow her joystick for a spell, and it’s not something I am sorry for. And, it’s definitely not new.”
“You know what, I don’t have to listen to your outrageous insensitive beliefs, get out of here this minute or I’ll get security to drag you out of this place,” Sabastian said as he lifted the handset of the intercom.
“You wouldn’t dare! You don’t have the balls for that.”
“Really, just watch me…”
Sabastian dialled the security post and when the attentive voice of the security personnel came on, Julie-Anna cut the call with the promise to leave.

Sabastian was the epitome of misery as the car taking him to his father’s hometown cruised through the mountainous planes which used to be his favourite sights in the past.
In his twenty-three years of life on earth, he had never felt so stupid, foolish even, to have fallen face down into the clutches of the deadliest witch of all times.
Over the years, he had prided himself with fidelity and now that reputation was tainted forever with no room for redemption. He was now nothing but a cheating bastard. His Dad would be very disappointed if he was watching him right now. His Dad had been a man with strong moral principles and somehow he had made him see that the only way to stay happy and even healthy was to be as honest as possible in everything you do, especially in relationships.
And he had lived with those principles even though it had not been easy. Because of his looks and the fact that his parents were well-to-do, there had been several instances to get him to dirty his dick but he had been able to come out of each one of those tempting situations with his shoulders high.
Not able to calm himself, he had not put in his usual morning call to the love of his life.
He was not sure he could pretend everything was good and the fact was he was still debating whether to tell Mina about what had happened or not.
He had played the scene of Mina’s reaction and emotional breakdown in his mind since he realised how stupid he had been, and that scenario was something he would love to protect her from at all costs.
He was not sure he could subject her to that pain, that torture and the shattering effect this information would have on her.
It was a few weeks to their end-of-semester exams and something like this could tip her off the urge and negatively impact her academic pursuits.
Another reason making it hard for him to come clean was Mina doubting him altogether.
Since the debate of ‘to tell’ or ‘not to tell’ started, he sent a lovely message to Mina and told her he would be out of coverage area most times as he journeyed to the mountains, and shortly after they ended their morning chat, he put his phone on flight mode. He hated it so much when he pretended with Mina. She was his world, and if he lost her because of his carelessness, he would never forgive himself and as it stands, he was not sure there was a way to fix what this development would have on his relationship with Mina.
The car pulled up at the edifice his father had put up a few years ago before his death through a road accident when he was returning from a work trip, a trip he had planned to go with Sabastian but circumstances made it impossible for him to accompany him for the first time.
His mother was already out on the porch and started walking to the car when Sabastian did not attempt to step down.
He was still looking out the window when his side of the door opened and his worried mother looked at him sternly.
“Are you alright, Maboy?”
“Yes, Mom. Just a bit tired,” he answered and got down in slow motion.
“I did not raise a liar, you know. It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about whatever is eating you up but you know I hate it when you lie to me.”
“Mom, I’m cool. I’m sad, yes but I don’t want to talk about it, okay?”
“Sure, as you wish.”
“Were you able to propose to Mina as planned?” his mom asked when it occurred to her that his son’s mood had something to do with the planned proposal to Mina.
“Yeah, sure.”
“And?”
“Is that why you look like death itself? Did she re…?”
“No, Mom. You should have seen her face when she saw the ring. It was priceless. And she was thrilled to accept. As I mentioned, I’m a little tired but I am here now. How are Dad’s people treating you? I was worried, you know, based on past experiences.”
“So far no one has come to bother me yet. I went to the family house to greet them when we arrived but most of them were not around, and I haven’t seen anyone yet since. Come, let me get you something to eat and give you time to freshen up before the service starts.”
The mention of food made him nauseous but knowing his mom, she would not rest until he ate something. So, he sat in the kitchen with his mom as she put together some breakfast for him.
After breakfast, he avoided his mom as much as possible, and for the first time since his father passed, he cried, first because he missed him so much and secondly, he wished he could talk to a father figure about what he was going through.
