“I’m a widow, my Lord, but I’ll forever love my husband!” Nneka said hotly. “He is the only man I ever loved and the only man for me! I have no uses for your lusty compliments, Prince, so keep them to yourself!”
And with that, she turned and quickly left the room.
Startled, Temi lay weakly in bed staring at the closed door!
He wondered about this widow, this beautiful dark woman who was filled with so much grace and something extra, a fierce passion of attitude that set her above any woman he had come across so far.
One thing for sure, though: she was an extremely strong and resourceful woman.
He felt the pain of his wounds intensifying and interrupting with his thoughts, and then he began to moan softly as the pain became more intense, and he began to get feverish.
His skin felt very hot, and the heat was emanating from his body in droves as if he were burning up.
The door opened suddenly, and she came in.
She was holding a basket which she set down on a low table and quickly approached the bed. She saw the sweat pouring off him, and her beautiful face became concerned immediately.
Nneka touched his cheek with a cool hand, and then she gasped.
“Goodness me, you’re running a high temperature!” she exclaimed, then she hurried out of the room, and presently returned with a bucket and a towel.
She set the bucket down beside the bed, then she pulled the covering cloth off Temi, folding it carefully down across his loins so that his genitals were not exposed.
And then she walked quickly to the windows, opened them, and pulled the curtains aside.
And then, she returned to sit on the bed beside him, dipped the towel into the water, squeezed the water partially out, and begun to clean his face and shoulders gently.

Temi was grateful for the cool water on his face, and he sighed with relief as she continued to cool him down with the towel. She worked across his neck, shoulders, chest and taut belly, and soon the horrible heat dwindled.
The cool air from the window flowed across his skin, and Temi smiled at her weakly with gratification.
“Thank you, Nek,” he whispered weakly.
She sat back, folded her arms across her chest, and scowled darkly at him.
“And what is that ‘Nek’ thing all about now, Your Majesty?” she asked coldly.
“It just…came,” Temi said weakly. “Sounds nice.”
She raised her eyebrows at him, still scowling.
“Don’t go giving me any special names, Prince Temidayo,” she said coldly. “You’re here, you’re hurt, and my husband has agreed that I take care of you. Get well, if you will, or die if it is your destiny! Either way, get it over with and leave here. You and I do not have any special name-calling things between us.”
“Your heart is dead, Nek,” Temi said weakly. “I hope, before I leave, that it starts beating again.”
“It will never beat for you, or any other man for that matter, except my Moshood!” she said, and her voice ended in a sob, and he saw her lips trembling.
Sensibly, Temi didn’t say anything more.
She picked up the bucket and the towel and took them out. She came back presently and walked to the basket she had placed on the table earlier, opened it, and took out a bowl.
The sweet scent of soup wafted into Temi’s nostrils, and he inhaled deeply as his stomach rumbled with great hunger!
He realized he was ravenously hungry.
The last meal he had was probably the one that traitorous Rose had given him before setting the murderers on him.
His young heart beat with sudden fury as he recollected the deadly actions of those three murderers, and his hands turned into fists at his sides! For their sake, he was praying to get well, and then he would descend wrath of naked intensity on those three murderers.
Nneka put a spoon into the bowl of soup and brought it near the bed, but suddenly the windows darkened, and a figure in a hoodie suddenly glided into the room.
Temi looked at the spirit of Jhon Moziz with bitter eyes.
“You!” he whispered fiercely, ignoring the bouts of pain that racked his body with the effort of speaking. “You show your face after I almost died? Were you not supposed to protect me? Why did you allow those three murderers to set on me?”
The spirit of Jhon Moziz hovered and shimmered in the air.
“My wishes and actions are true only if they are in rhythm and consonance with the dictates and wishes of the Creator, my Lord,” Jhon Moziz said softly. “Indeed, it was my great urge to stop your brother, Daniel Godwin, but I was unable to come to you. I was only directed to come to the cottage of the widow and put your father’s chain around your neck. Whatever happened was according to the ways of the Creator!”
“The ways of the Creator?” Temi said bitterly. “This pain I am going through? This weakness? The repulsive and hideous wounds on my body are all the wishes of this Creator of Everything? What in the name of Hades are you talking about? How would the Creator allow me to go through this torture, this humiliation if indeed I’m the Chosen One?”
“Be quiet, my Lord, and curb the impudence of your tongue!” Jhon Moziz said sharply. “I fail of health, and I die rapidly inside the Redemption Rock! If you don’t come to my aid soon, I shall perish! It is time, my Lord, to be the leader you are born to be! I don’t know what you’re going through now, but I do trust in the Creator that indeed, you’re being prepared! That is why no food will touch your mouth, and no medicine will touch your wounds…until you’re made ready!”

“Madness!” Temi cried feelingly. “I am as hungry as a million men, you vile spirit! My wounds are tragic, and I can smell them because they are becoming gangrenous, and if I’m not given medicine, I shall surely die!”
“You would’ve died a thousand times by now if death has been assigned to be your companion at this time, my Lord!” Jhon Moziz said in a tired voice. “I know you’re somewhere, maybe with the spirit of your father. And because of that, no medicine or food shall pass through your lips!”
“Why, oh why, you most vexatious old man?” Temi asked painfully.
“Because your body needs to be weak, my Lord,” Jhon Moziz said, and there was a note of sadness in his voice. “The weaker you become physically, the stronger you become spiritually, and the better you will receive the gifts from your father!”
“You know about the land of Bliss then, and the impartation of skills?” Temi asked, intrigued. “If you do, then why did you tell Commander Prosper to train me to be a damn warrior?”
“No, I don’t, and you’re not supposed to tell me!” Jhon Moziz said sharply. “I do remember, though, a very long time ago, when your father was but a child not more than ten years of age, he became very sick on his tenth birthday! Your uncle, Pedro Peter Igwe, also became very sick on his tenth birthday too. The medicine men wanted to touch them with medicine, but King Demi’s father, who was king then, refused to let them be given medicine or food.
He never explained himself to me or anybody, but a week afterward, they became very strong and well again. One evening, when your father was very sick – I believe it was about the fourth day – and he was crying for food and medicine, I overhead your grandfather telling him that it will be over soon and that he needed to be weak in the flesh in order to be strong in spirit.”
“So, you really don’t know what happens regarding the skills of the kings of Dayo?” Temi asked softly.
“No, I don’t,” Jhon Moziz said with a sigh. “I do know it had something to do with the princes being sick and weak and going somewhere in their spiritual bodies. Your father, unfortunately, was dead, and I knew you couldn’t go on this journey alone to acquire whatever skills you need, and that is why I asked Commander Prosper to give you skills.
But it seems the Creator had other destinies and ways mapped up which I have not been privy to. So I was directed to bring the chain…and prevent you from taking in food and water. I hope that indeed, you’re where you’re supposed to be now. But you don’t need to tell me. I do not deserve to know. It is the ways of the kings, I presume, and that is how the Creator wants it to be!”
“It makes sense now,” Temi said softly. “Indeed, it makes sense to me. It means I have but six more days with him. Ah, that is even more painful than my need for food and medicine!”
“Whom are you speaking of, my Lord?” Jhon Moziz asked in an emotionally-charged voice.
Temi smiled weakly at him.
“I do not know if I’m at liberty to tell you, Grand Oracle,” he said gently.
There was a long silence, and then Jhon Moziz began to fade out.
“Indeed, there are secrets I must not be privy of, my Lord,” he said sadly. “But I grow weak, and I must depart. But until whatever you’re going through is over, there will be no food and medicine for you, but water you can drink.”
He faded further, and then his voice came, filled with melancholic cadences.
“If indeed, you happen to make the acquaintance of your father, my Lord King Demi, do tell him that Jhon Moziz is indeed very sorry for failing him on that day, and I beg for his forgiveness. Tell him, I have not had a moment of peace ever since. And tell him I love him above all men…except, perhaps, his arrogant and impudent whelp of a son I have the undesirous and painful privilege of looking after! Like the Earthlings say, fuck you, Prince Temidayo David of Dayo!”
Tears slowly formed in Temidayo’s eyes, and he nodded weakly.
“Indeed, I shall so inform him, and hey, wait Grand Oracle!” Temi said sadly.
But Jhon Moziz was no longer visible in the room.
“Are you here, Grand Oracle?” Temi asked softly.
“I wait, my Lord, as you so ordered!” the voice of Jhon Moziz came out of the emptiness.
Temi nodded and sighed tremulously.
“Indeed, I have been arrogant and impudent, Grand Oracle,” he said softly. “I have been an ungrateful one, and I don’t ever remember thanking you for your love for me, and my family. Thank you, Grand Oracle Jhon Moziz. In the absence of my father, you have been more than an able replacement, and I owe you life. Do forgive me if I ever wronged you, for I’m eternally indebted to you, and I have never known a finer man, or spirit, like you! Thank you.”
There was a long silence, and then a powerful blast of air rolled around the room, and for a brief moment Temidayo felt the gentle touch on his cheeks, as if from fingers, and he knew Jhon Moziz had just touched his face with love, and Temi’s tears fell a bit heavier, and then the air blasted out of the window…and he knew Jhon Moziz was gone.
