CHAPTER 13
With great roars, the nine other White Kombas leaped high in the air and spread out behind the silver-headed one. They all crouched, as if getting ready to leap on Temi, but the silver-headed one raised furiously and pushed two of its arms backward as if telling the rest to stay put, and then its red eye drove into Temidayo, and right then the battle lines were drawn. It growled deeply in its throat, and its knife-like teeth beat a horribly dangerous beat in its yawning mouth.
Temidayo could feel the hilts of the Swords of Destiny humming in his hands, and their emerald core shone brightly, making the sharp edges turn a dangerous laser blue.

“Now listen, you vile crawler of the ground!” Temidayo said as he raised the sword in his right hand and pointed at the White Komba. “I have respect for you, and respect for your foraging atrocities, but as Prince of Dayo, I detest you holding my people to ransom and denying them the joys of the beauty of the stars. If you will leave here with your vile cohorts, and go back to your lairs, and never set a stinking foot here ever again on any part of Dayo land, I will let you live the rest of your vile lives in peace!”
The silver-headed White Komba growled furiously, its eyes filled with unspeakable evil and malice. It roared fiercely in a battle cry, two of its arms spread wide and the third one pointed at Temi. Its middle foot pawed the ground furiously.
It was the most horrible sight to behold.
It was about three times the size of Temidayo, with no soft spot on its cutaneous crust body. This was a monster that had murdered many humans and had no respect for any of them, and absolutely no fear either.
Watching from the other side of the lake, Daniel Godwin looked into the anxious face of Commander Freeman.
“I’m going to help Temi,” Daniel said in an anxious voice. “We can’t stand here and watch him killed in cold blood!”
Commander Freeman reached out and grabbed Daniel’s shoulder.
“There’s something going on, DG,” he said carefully. “This is beyond us now, and out of our hands. First, we wait and watch what happens. If the Heir Apparent wins, there’ll be peace, I feel. If that vile piece of dung wins, then I guarantee we’ll have a fight to the death on our hands.”

“That’s a White Komba!” Daniel Godwin screamed. “No man, no matter how strong, can survive any of them alone! Temi could die!”
“Somehow, I doubt that,” Commander Freeman said with an unsteady voice. “Somehow I doubt that very much.”
The silver-headed White Komba let out a roar again, and then it lunged at Temi with its three arms flailing. The left sword-edged hand came in a wide swipe for Temi’s throat, the middle one slashing upward toward his stomach and the right one slashing sideways for his knees.
It was a horrible attack move that would have slashed his legs off, severed his head from the body and spilled his intestines all in one move. It was a fast, vicious attack mode that no ordinary human could have avoided, but Temidayo was primed like a fine set of a perfect machine, and his movements were faster than the naked eye could follow.
“Abdi!” Temi murmured as he moved back and swivelled away from the flailing attacks of the maddened monster. “Taca!”
He moved in, slashing fast with the Swords of Destiny. His movements were in a blur, graceful and deadly. He came in under the monster’s attacks, and the swords slashed with deadly accuracy into the arms of the White Komba.
He slashed off the middle arm of the White Komba, and it flew through the air and landed on the green grass.
“Gilima!” Temi whispered, spinning with blinding speed and slicing off the remaining arms of the White Komba.
The beast took a step back, stunned that Temi’s blade had sliced off its arms so effectively and easily! Its single eye was filled with a flash of unease.

“Wooow!” Mickey King whispered with awe. “Did you see that? Did you see the Prince moving? And those blades? Jeez! Cut right through that shitty bastard!”
Temi and the White Komba stared at each other…and then an amazing thing happened!
The White Komba’s long arms lying on the grass suddenly flew into the air, one at a time, and reattached themselves on the monster again!
“Oh, Temi!” Nneka gasped from the doorway. “That thing is indestructible! Run, my love, run away please!”
“What vile evil!” Commander Prosper whispered with sudden horror. “Monster’s arms just…flew back on!”
Temi’s eyes narrowed with disbelief and watched as the monster gloated, pawed the ground with its legs, and then it roared defiantly and lunged at Temi again, attacking him relentlessly and strongly this time, its movements fast and deadly, extremely hard for Temi to block.
Temi felt a searing pain ripping through him as the monster stuck a sharp arm through him, right through the left side of his chest. The arm went right through Temi and emerged straight out of his back. If it had been the right side of his chest his heart would have been shattered, and he would have died instantly.
The White Komba roared with victory, sure it had killed this human it detested so much.
Blood spurted out of Temi and he could hear Nneka and Rose screaming shrilly behind him.
“Goodness, no!” Prosper shouted with horror as the White Komba raised Temi off his feet, forcing its sword-arm deeper into him, and then it flung Temi to the ground hard.
Blood oozed out of Temi as he got to his feet, and then his mind took over as his psychic healing abilities – honed to impeccable perfection by his impartation – took over, and by the time he got to his feet, his wound was completely healed.
But he knew without a shadow of a doubt that if he had sustained that wound in his heart, he would have died. He looked at the White Komba with new fury, and it was the turn of the monster to look stunned and gaze at Temi with apprehension.
“He mastered…the psychic!” Daniel Godwin whispered with awe and admiration as he put his heavy arm around Prosper’s shoulders. “Did you see that, Commander? He healed himself in seconds!”
“As only the kings are capable of,” Prosper Freeman said in a stunned voice.
“He is the One,” Daniel whispered, his voice filled with wonder. “He’s been the One all along!”
“Aye, he is,” Prosper replied.
Temidayo whirled the swords in his hands, and then he rushed toward the White Komba, slashing and attacking with incredible and unbelievable skill, and words left his mouth with each attack move, words of the ancient arts known only by the imparted.
His sword moved in a blur, slashing maddeningly!
The White Komba stood its ground at first, but it was no match for Temi’s blinding speed, and soon it began to move backward as two of its arms were slashed off again, and then one of its legs!
Temi spun round with both swords slashing in, cutting the monster through the abdomen and separating it into two, so that its trunk fell to one side, and its legs fell to the other side!

The White Kombas let out a horrified wail to see their leader cut into two, whilst the humans of the Haven screamed with indescribable joy.
Temi stood panting over the separated figure of the monster. He was now getting a bit tired, and his arms ached from the exertions.
And then it happened…again!
The White Komba’s severed body parts were first to slide over the grass and reattach themselves to the upper trunk and legs of the beast, and then, unbelievably, his trunk and waist moved swiftly together and fused into one…and the roaring White Komba got to its feet and looked defiantly at Temi.
“Oh, bother!” Temidayo groaned with increasing frustration. “If I had a fire I’ll burn you to ashes!”
And immediately the blades of the Swords of Destiny burst into flames!
“Oh, Mama!” Walexman screamed and jumped into the air. “Oh, Temi, if you die leave those swords for me!”
“Fool!” Prosper shouted and rapped Walexman across the head.
Temidayo was staring at the blazing swords with acute shock. He had not known they could change like this! It was so exhilarating and still scary, but there was no time to gloat over it now.
He turned dazedly toward the monster again.
