UNTIL YOU
EPISODE 7
Her parents had been taken aback by her new look even though they admitted her hairstyle was on point.
Her mom in particular was very surprised Naa would cut off her long silky hair because she knew the girl loved her hair and she wondered if something had triggered the action.
“I hope you are not being pressured to look a particular way, dear,” her mom had said, sensing there could be more to the haircut than met the eye.
“No, mom. I just wanted a change, to look different and sexy, if you get what I mean. Don’t tell me you don’t love me like this.”
“You know I’ll love you no matter what. I just want to be sure all is well. The change was a bit drastic and I didn’t see it coming, that’s all. You look good, great in fact.”
Her Dad had just looked at her as if expecting her to tell him more. He could swear there was more to what she was telling them but try as he did, Naa maintained that all was well in her life.
As long as she was happy, they had no qualms about her looks so they took her word for it.
Naa knew that the only thing her Dad did not like was for them to wear very short clothes to town so she did not think her haircut would get him that pensive look.
It was like he could read her but she was not ready to talk about Nii and his silly acts. It was her problem and she had to live with it.
When her parents were ready to go to the airport, Naa jumped into the chauffeured car and sat between her parents. Her Dad had pushed to high heavens but when he realized she was not ready to share whatever was happening in her life, he let it go.
Naa waited for their flight to take off after a teary goodbye and hugs that were difficult to disengage from. She knew she was going to miss them, especially her Dad. At times, she had just wished she could bring herself to have her edication in the States just like her siblings so they could all be together.
She knew her parents struggled between the schedules of keeping an eye on them but they had not forced her to do anything she was not ready for.
The morning after their departure, Naa got out of bed grudgingly and after a quick bath, fixed herself some breakfast.
After that she checked on the staff if they needed anything. She, somehow, loved it when it happened that she called the shots in her parents’ absence.
She was on her way to her apartment when the usual tone she had saved for Nii started playing. She realized then that she had not thought of him the whole of the previous day and that morning.
She had been too tired after getting home from the airport that she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow and had not even remembered their usual goodnight talk.
Wow. exhilarating and yet terrifying, in an exciting sort of way.
Naa picked the call.
“Hello, handsome,” she answered.
“Hi, my Princess, why have you made me miss you like this?”
“Miss you more, Nii,” she said, rolling her eyes.
“I was wondering if you are riding with me to school today, sent you messages yesterday but did not get any reply because the messages are still unread.”
“Unfortunately, no. I have a few rounds to make after school and didn’t want to bother you with it. I guess I’ll join you some other time. So sorry about that, Nii.”
The silence that ensued after that was heavy.
Nii was almost sure Naa was avoiding him.
It was true it wasn’t every day that she rode with him to school but she would have informed him about it earlier. They had always been frank with each about those things. The strangest thing to Nii was the fact that she had neither returned his calls nor messages the previous day and now she had taken a decision without even bothering to share it with him.
He felt a bit uneasy but fought hard to stop the urge to start an argument that morning.
“Are you cool?” she asked, sensing his trail of thoughts. “Sorry, I didn’t inform you ahead of time. I was overtaken by events yesterday. Just saw the calls and messages.”
“It’s okay. I was just worried. I came by your place too but you were not home. That was so unlike you. I do stuff like that without remembering to inform you but you always let me know. Anyway, I’ll see you on campus then,” he said hurriedly and cut the call.
Naa Shika smiled in triumph. She had managed to get Nii to get worried. That was her plan. It was time he felt her pain whenever those things happened and any time she talked about it, he made it look like she was overreacting.
A few minutes later, dressed in a sea blue shirt and dark-blue pair of jeans, Naa maneuvered her plush car out of the compound through the heavy and tall gates of the Martey mansion she lived in.
She saw Nii’s car coming out of their gates down the road around the same time and by the way he sped off, she could tell he was unhappy.
Naa stepped on the accelerator in a bid to catch up but Nii just increased the distance between them, and when she saw him going dangerously faster just before the junction to the main road, she decided to go at her own pace.
It was a beautiful morning and she needed to take it all in. She felt happy and untouchable all of a sudden.
A few meters to the main road she came face to face with the reason Nii had increased his speed just around that spot. Dressed in a mini pair of shorts and a top that exposed her navel and high boots was the dark-skinned beauty, Korkor. She looked kind of funny with the heavy makeup and the shoes but on the whole, she was a beautiful and well-endowed lady.
Naa made to zoom past her without much of a glance but decided against it a few meters away from her. She stopped when she passed her, backed up carefully and pulled up very close to her and gave her a sarcastic smile while she opened the car doors with the remote.
Korkor stood undecided for a spell, then she opened the front passenger side and got in, muttering her thanks as she grudgingly admired Naa’s new look.
They drove in silence for a long while without saying anything to each other and Korkor was getting uneasy by the second. She was ready for a confrontation, anything but the suffocating silence.
Even when she tried to start up a conversation with the statement that Naa looked incredibly stunning in her new look, Naa just behaved as if she had not heard her.
They entered the university through the south gate and this stretch of road was usually quiet almost with no activity at all.
“I get it, you are mad at me for what I did with Nii. But you can’t really blame me for what happened. He could have walked away if he wanted to, but he stayed, that meant he…”
Naa stepped on the brake without a second thought and swiftly shifted into reverse. With a grim face she stepped on the accelerator and the car shot backwards with a screech of tyres, moving swiftly on the stretch.
“Nah!” Korkor shouted in alarm. “What are you doing? What the hell are you doing?”
Naa paid no heed to her as she moved at speed with her eyes glued on the side mirrors. She swung the steering wheel around the corner and stopped at the mouth of the long stretch of road.
Coldly, she turned her gaze on Korkor who had wilted and was staring at her with horror.
“Get out! I see I made another big mistake helping you out,” Naa said coldly.
“You can’t leave me here, Naa!” Korkor cried with horror as the implication of Naa’s actions hit her. “I’m not getting out. It’s a long walk from here to the lecture hall and my heels, I can’t…”
“Get out this instant or you’ll be sorry. Let’s see how you enjoy the walk from here in your shoes, slut, ” Naa said as she reached over and opened the door to the passenger side. “Get out before I throw you out of a moving car.”
With the door still open, Naa moved the car forward a bit and stopped when the girl screeched with sudden fear.
Korkor shivered at the cold look on Naa’s face. She had never seen her that dead serious in all the time she had known her and knew without a shred of doubt that Naa would do just as she had threatened.
She shouted as she eased herself out of the car.
Quickly, she unbuckled her seat-belt and stepped out.
She turned towards Naa and spoke spitefully.
“It’s not my fault your boyfriend prefers my wet p***y, loser!”
“Did you say prefer? I’d have believed it if he left me for you but as it stands, he only uses you to while away his boredom when I’m unavailable. That’s more like a whore, right? You lose, Korkor. You mean shit to him so get over your pompous tantrums. He prefers you indeed. Now walk, bitch. That’s for wishing me dead because of a d**k,” Naa said, reached over and closed the passenger door Korkor had left open, and sped off without heeding to Korkor’s cries for mercy.
