BLEEDING HEART
On Friday morning, she called me to tell me she was going out and won’t be home all day and I asked if I could come the next day but she said all her family will be at home so she won’t be able to go out. She suggested we meet on Sunday but I suggested Monday’s night vigil will be better because I needed enough time to talk to her, so we agreed on that.
Monday night before the vigil, I went out in search of a frame and flower to buy for her but unfortunately I couldn’t get the items, so I decided to buy another thing because if I show up empty-handed, she would think I just wanted to know where she lives and if you don’t get what you need, you can always get a substitute, what matters most is that it was gotten from a sincere heart, so I got her a vanilla ice cream and bread.”
Tosin looked at me as if he wanted to cry.
“I know, don’t look at me like that, it was the best I could do at that time, don’t crucify me.”

Monday 19th Dec 2011, after vigil, I said to myself “Today is the last time am proposing to her, if she is still adamant, then so be it, am done trying to prove anything.”
So I called her and gave her the things I bought for her, she thanked me and was about to go back when I called her back and told her we needed to talk.
“Okay, so what are we talking about this time around?” she asked.
“Shade, why did you say our relationship can’t work?”
“I thought I already told you that before?”
“Well, you only said it can’t work, I want to know why you said no?”
“Nothing, just like that,” was her reply.
“What do you mean by nothing, are you saying you just sat down, thought of nothing and then told me no?” I asked surprised. “Come on, give me something, there must be a reason for you to…
“What if I say yes?” she suddenly asked me before I could finish what I was saying.
Shocked and confused at the same time, “Yes it is then,” I said without knowing what else to say.
Then the reality just struck me, “wait, did you just accept my proposal?” I asked
“Oh, you are just getting it?, well yes, I did. I was just testing you to see if you really loved me as you claimed, that was why I had to make you propose three times. Now that you’ve proven yourself, I’m ready to be yours as long as you want me.”
“Ofcos, I do.”
“Wait, what would have happened if I didn’t ask you out for the third time?” I jokingly asked her.
“That would have been your loss then,” she replied.
“Well that is over now, I love you,” I told her.
“I love you too, dear,” she replied.
So that was how I got my first love on Tuesday 20th Dec 2011, a day I can never forget.

During one of our discussions, she told me something that surprised me. That day was Christmas day during our night call, “You know Shade, I fell in love with you the very first day I saw you after secondary school before our graduation day and I have never loved any girl before or after you?” I told her,
“Stop lying to me, Segun,” she replied smiling and I could felt her blushing.
“I’m been serious here dear.”
“Wow, that’s amazing to hear, thanks love.”
“So what about you, when did my humble self capture your heart, because I know what you made me go through before making you mine?” I asked.
“If I tell you, you will make fun of me.”
“Try me.”
“Fine, I started loving you from the beginning of our SS3 and no other guy could make me love them like I did you.”
“No way, how did that even happen, we weren’t even friends then and I didn’t know you were my church member not until during our graduation?” I asked surprised.
“You were the one that didn’t know me but I always knew you.”
“Yea, I know I’m that popular, I can’t help it,” I teased.
“Look at this one, be deceiving yourself there,” she replied laughing.
“But, how did you do it?” I asked her.
“Do what?”
“Have feelings for me and never spoke to me?”
“I couldn’t help talking to you.”
“Why?” I asked confused.
“Because the feeling was so strong that I knew talking to you might make me end up confessing my feelings to you which I didn’t want to.”
“Imagine I didn’t propose to you the third time after rejecting me twice, what would have happened?”
“Then that’s it, life goes on.”
“You think you can live with it?”
“What made you think I can’t?” she asked.
“Because it will be difficult keeping your feelings for someone in check while seeing that person on a daily basis.”
“Well, that’s true, but all that is old story now, what matters most is that we are now together and I don’t plan on losing you anytime soon.”
“Hahaha,” I laughed, “that’s true dear, I love you and don’t plan on losing you soon too, you are all mine.”
“I love you too with every fibre in me.”

“Wow, wow, wow, what an incredible story,” Tosin said clapping.
“Thanks, man,” I replied smiling.
“You really did it, you got your girl even with all the obstacles.”
“Yes, I did.”
“You know, I didn’t expect you to go back to her the third time after rejecting you twice.”
“Why did you say so?”
“Considering the fact she told you the second time that she didn’t have the same feelings for you, man that’s tough.”
“I know right?, but I already made up my mind to make her mine which I did.”
“Sure you did, you really did, kudos to you.”
“Thanks, man.”
“But seriously,” Tosin said laughing.
“What?” I asked him, already knowing what he was driving at.
“Ice cream and bread, for real?” he answered rolling on the sand.
“Thought I already told you to cut me some slack. That was what I could think of then and you know, no day passes without me thinking of it and laughing.”
“Yea, it’s kinda hilarious, but like you said, it’s the fact that it came from your heart that matters.”
“Exactly, that’s what I tell myself every time I think about it, and when I saw the way she appreciated it and the sincerity in her eyes, I was relieved.”
“Did she tell you how she got it into her house because I recall you saying her mom was strict?” he asked.
“Funny thing is that, it actually crossed my mind when I got home and I couldn’t help but laugh at myself,” I said laughing, “When I asked her, she laughed at me first and asked me why I didn’t think of that in the first place, but she said she had to hide it outside their house and wait for her mom to go out before taking it inside and ate it with her siblings.”
“That’s smart of her.”
“I know right? And it was actually a big bread.”
“You are kidding me, right?” he asked laughing with tears in his eyes.
“I’m serious, it was really big I tell you,” I replied laughing too.
“But I’m still baffled about something,” he said and stopped laughing.
“What’s that?” I asked him.
“When I first approached you and asked you to share your story with me, you looked sad immediately and you even told me it still makes your heart bleed, but from what you’ve told me so far, it been beautiful. So I figured there’s still more you haven’t told me.
At that, I sighed and dropped my head, that was when I knew I was crying, I had to wipe the tears from my eyes and because it was dark he didn’t notice. “You are right man, there’s more, but are you sure you won’t come back tomorrow, it already late you know?”
“I know, but I can always spend the night at a hotel, I really can’t postpone this story, I want to get everything today.”
“Fine, here comes nothing,” I replied, laying down on the sand too.
