CHAPTER 8
Temi raised a hand and traced her face gently.
“Neji Helen, my love, you bring me such happiness!” he murmured lovingly. “I love you so much!”
Rose sighed and kissed his lips slowly, running her hands lovingly over his body.
“I heard stories, my love,” she said softly. “When I was brought in, I saw a girl leaving the palace in great strife. She looked extremely sad.”
He raised his eyebrows.
“Really?” he asked softly. “Who could it be?”
“I asked the Grand Oracle, and he told me the girl’s name is Rose, and she left the palace because you couldn’t bring yourself to forgive her for a moment of folly.”
Temi’s face tightened almost immediately and his arms became hard bands around her.
“That girl is a traitor!” he said with bitter gall. “Twice she tried to kill me, and in the end, she caused the death of my Nneka and my brother! Oh, I detest her with passion!”
Rose shut her eyes, bitterly hurt by his tone of voice and his evident hatred of her.

She was brainwashed, and she seemed genuinely remorseful. I was told the awful way she behaved was because of a misplaced drive for vengeance for her mother’s murder, and father’s imprisonment. If she is truly sorry now, can’t you find it in your heart to forgive her?”
He pushed her aside and got up from the bed, his face troubled as he looked at her gravely.
“Can we stop talking about Rose Amaefule?” he asked tightly.
She got up from the bed too and approached him, and then she took both his hands in hers.
“Please, do forgive her, for my sake, please,” she whispered earnestly.
“Why do you care about her anyway?” he asked furiously. “You don’t know that girl! She’s a snake, a very venomous snake! I wish you would not bring her up in our conversations!”
“But I want you to forgive her!” Rose cried in anguish, unable to restrain herself, and then she turned toward the door as if to leave the room. Temi took her hand and drew her into his arms again, and his expression was troubled.
“Alright, my love, alright!” he said tightly. “If that’s what you want, I’ll try to forgive her, for your sake!”
“Oh, thank you, Temi, my love, my sweet love!” Rose groaned with tears in her eyes.
She kissed him then, fiercely, passionately, without holding back.
With a groan Temi lifted her up and carried her to the bed, his lips never leaving hers. He held her gently, lovingly, as his lips descended behind her ears, his tongue flicking across her earlobes, and then down her neckline to the tops of her shoulders.
She shuddered hard, moaning in ecstasy as his lips flicked across her right nipple. She held his head, moaning, unable to take the pleasure, and then she spoke in a gasp.
“If you don’t stop, Temi, my love, I wouldn’t be able to stop you, and I’ll humiliate myself in front of you,” she cried in agony. “If you want me, marry me, and then take me, and make me a woman!”
He stopped then, his face still suffused with passion, and then he slowly smiled and got off the bed. He held out his hand to her.
“Come with me,” he said. “Let’s go meet my mother and sister.”
And, as it turned out, the Queen and all the others were waiting anxiously for news about how it went, and when the door finally opened and they saw Temidayo approaching, looking unbelievably regal in his robes, face radiant with the depth of the love he was feeling, they all looked at each other and gave sighs of relief.
He hugged his mother warmly and then introduced the lady to them.
“This is Neji Helen, Mama, from Earth,” Temi said proudly. “A woman I love and adore. I want her to be my wife.”

The Queen, sick to her heart at the deceit she was involved in, smiled bravely and took Rose’s hands.
“I’ve met her, my son, and she is most presentable indeed, a real gem of a woman more than fit to be the new Queen of the Dayo Empire,” she said solemnly.
“I’m so happy for you, little brother,” Princess Akenzua said with a beaming smile. “I liked her the moment I saw her.”
There were happy smiles, hugs, and congratulations all around, and then Temi looked at the Grand Oracle.
“I’m indebted to you once more, my Grand Oracle,” he said in a gentle grateful voice. “Thank you for bringing my love to me again.”
“I’ll do anything for my Heir Apparent, and for Dayo,” Jhon Moziz said calmly. “And I am happy to see you happy once again.”
“I am indeed very happy,” Temidayo said with a broad smile. “But I am also in haste. I want to be married to Neji Helen tomorrow.”
There was a stunned silence in the luxurious room, and then Ayaka Nsugbe looked at Jhon Moziz briefly before getting up and bowing low to Temidayo.
“Alas, that cannot be possible, my Lord,” he said firmly. “It will not be possible for you to marry this maiden.”
Temidayo scowled darkly as he turned his eyes on the leader of the Keepers.
“And why can’t I marry the lady of my heart?” he asked coldly. “If it is more of your customs, then it shall be changed instantly!”
“It is not a custom, my Lord,” Jhon Moziz chipped in with an expressionless voice. “It is the way of Dayo, as instituted by the Creator of all Things. An Heir Apparent shall not marry until he is crowned King.”
There was a cold glint in Temidayo’s eyes as he took a step toward the Grand Oracle.
“If that be the case, then I don’t see it as being any case,” he said, his voice brimming with mistrust. “I’m ready to be crowned king, and then I will marry Neji Helen.”
Jhon Moziz looked levelly at the prince without batting an eye.
“No king of Dayo will be crowned as long as the Spirit of Dayo is in ashes!” he exclaimed.
“The Spirit of Dayo?” Temi asked with narrowed eyes. “You mean the olive tree on top of the Rock of Redemption?”
“Yes, but the Olive Tree is no more, if you remember, my Lord!” Jhon Moziz exclaimed. “The last leaf fell, and it ushered in the great Apocalypse, the Stone Curse. Until the day a new Olive Tree shimmers green on top of the Rock of Redemption, the Dayo Empire shall crown no king!”
Temidayo growled suddenly and took a menacing step toward the Grand Oracle, causing Rose, Queen Kelly, Princess Akenzua and Prosper Freeman to move toward him with sudden unease.
Kelly Philip put a restraining hand on Temi’s shoulder.
“My son!” she whispered.
Temi shrugged free from her hand and looked fiercely at Jhon Moziz.

“Now I see your rotten core, Grand Oracle! So, this is why you brought Neji Helen here, isn’t it? You didn’t do it from the dictates of the good intentions of your heart, but you did it because of your vile scheming mind! Indeed, you brought her here to force me to go for your vile olive plant in the White Lands, didn’t you?”
“You will not blaspheme, my Lord!” Jhon Moziz grated out in a passionate, furious voice. “It is anything but vile! That is a significant covenant between us and the Creator of All Things! And yes, I will do anything for the survival of Dayo! Millions of our people have turned to stone, hit by this hideous Apocalypse! Millions of people on Earth shall be faced with extinction if Dayo is not brought back to life! If I could, I would have gone for the olive! But alas, I can’t! Only you can! So yes, you must adhere to the principles of your destiny!”
“It is not my destiny!” Temidayo shouted furiously. “For how long shall I continue to give to this accursed destiny? If Dayo is so precious, why didn’t the Creator of All Things stop Leke Olugbade Bally?”
“You don’t understand, do you?” Jhon Moziz cried furiously. “There will always be a divide between good and evil! No one understands the ways of the Creator, and I will not stand here and listen to your blasphemy! You must go out there and save Dayo!”
“At the cost of whose life?” Temidayo hissed furiously at him. “Who dies next, huh? My mother, after wasting eighteen years of her life in the vile dungeons? My sister, after wasting her life in a damn lonely tower? You, after wasting eighteen years of your miserable life trapped inside a rock? Prosper, Ayaka, Suncity, after wasting eighteen years running from death? Is that what you want? More deaths? Is that going to appease you and your Creator?”
“Death is inevitable and eventual, my Lord!” Jhon Moziz cried. “Please, I beseech you, we have only a few days left! Save our land!”
“You go save it!” Temi cried, and then he turned away angrily. His mother and sister tried to hold him, but he marched furiously away.
Rose turned to follow him.
“Please, let me,” she said softly. “I will convince him in any way I can!”
“You must!” Jhon Moziz said, his voice suddenly scared. “Even if it means sacrificing yourself, maiden, and letting him have what you treasure between your thighs, you must do it for the greater good of Dayo! We’re here in this mess because partly, you’re also a cause! Go to him, convince him! Let him have you, and when he finds the pleasure of your lips and your loins, he would like to prolong it, and he will leave here for the Dead Olive!”
With a heart beating with trepidation and sheer misery, Rose turned and ran after Temidayo.
“May the Creator give you a way through!” Queen Kelly said, her voice almost mournful. “Please him, and encourage him to fulfill his destiny.”

And as Rose knew, her heart throbbing with almost irrepressible pain, she knew that indeed she might have to lose her virginity to a man she loved dearly, but who thought she was someone else.
It was one of the most painful things that could happen to any woman.
But, if it was for a good cause, a matter of life and death, she might have no option.
She had to do it!
