CHAPTER 18
Even as he sat beside Temi and spoke, Okakuo could not keep the stunned incredulity out of his face as he stared at this apparition. The kings of the Dayo Empire had always been fine men, the finest at any given moment in time, but the man he was seeing was cast from a different mould altogether.
Temidayo was physically incredible to look at, but there was another quality to him, a calm disposition that lent credence to his royal stature and seemed to make him larger than life.
As he listened to the atrocities that had led to Okakuo’s mother being murdered in cold blood, and Queen Kelly Philip dancing on broken glass, the young prince’s face became increasingly pained, and for a brief moment, tears shimmered in his eyes.
He reached out and placed a hand on Okakuo’s shoulder.

“You have suffered because you loved my sister, and you gave her a little happiness,” he said softly. “You have lost everything, Okakuo, son of Agbons. Let me be your brother now, for as long as you draw breath.”
“The honour is mine, my Lord,” Okakuo said and began to stand up to bow to the Heir Apparent.
“Stop the bowing thing, would you?” Temidayo asked, his voice irritated. “Save that till Dayo is free.”
“Alas, that cannot be,” Suncity said gravely as he glanced at the door. “The customs of Dayo is what makes us proud, my Lord.”
“Ah, my people, you irk me sore sometimes with your tenacity toward customs, customs, customs!” the prince said and leaned back. “Now, can we discuss how to get the eyes of a wild beast to make your creation of a mimic artefact possible?”
Emmanuel Suncity looked at Temi with appreciative eyes.
“It gladdens my heart that you’re of a hurried disposition, my Lord, to get the wheels of redemption moving. But it is getting late. Relax your nerves, and get some rest for your body. I will surely think of a way, and tomorrow we shall go deep into the forest to find those eyes at all costs.”
“I do not feel tired yet, Uncle,” Temidayo said carefully. “But I will heed to your words because I want you to have an early rest too and a refreshed mind to mull over our problem.”
Emmanuel Suncity began to speak, but just then the whole building shook horribly as if from the effect of an earthquake, and almost immediately horrific screams came from outside the room.
The men in the room rushed outside where a most bizarre sight was awaiting them!

There was a gigantic, three-headed anaconda on the ground, and it was moving quite strongly and fiercely around the settlement, and already Temi could see the legs of two men sticking out of two of its mouths!
“Evil at its worst!” Emmanuel Suncity screamed. “This, indeed, is from Leke Olugbade Bally! Protect the Heir Apparent!”
Already, the warriors of Emmanuel Suncity were attacking the ferocious beast. They were throwing spears and shooting arrows at it, but the weapons bounced off the skin of the reptile! Some of the braver ones had gone near and were cutting at it with their swords, but there were just metallic clangs as the swords bounced off the anaconda’s skin!
It was as if it was made of metal!
‘Evil incarnate!” Daniel Godwin whispered with shock. “No blade can harm it!”
The beast was relentless in its sheer evil wickedness!
It lifted its heads and suddenly fixed Temidayo with its red eyes, and then it began to slither toward him as he stood in the doorway. And as it moved, it reached out to grab the screaming horde of people surrounding it, catching them in its massive jaws and swallowing them!
“It is coming for the Prince!” Emmanuel Suncity screamed earnestly. “Protect the prince with your lives!”
He screamed and charged at the mass of slithering black skin, spinning in the air and bringing his sword crashing down on the body of the snake!
His sword bounced off the back of the beast with quite a clanging sound!
“Get inside, get inside, my Lord!” Prosper Freeman shouted as he pushed Temi into the house and followed.
The snake pounced on Emmanuel Suncity who rolled away from its thrust and then came running toward the door. He dove through the doorway just as the snake’s tongue wound around his ankle and began to pull him toward its gaping jaw.
Okakuo Agbons screamed and jumped forward, slashing at the devil beast’s tongue! His sword sliced through the tongue, and blood poured out as the snake shuddered with pain and recoiled.
Emmanuel and Okakuo then dove through the doorway and shut the door.
“This is bad, this is bad!” Commander Freeman said with great agitation. “No weapon can penetrate the skin of that demon!”
“Indeed, we’re in very dire straits!” Suncity said, his voice edged with fear. “What are we going to do? That vile thing is from that vile Leke Bally, and its target is the Heir Apparent!”
The door suddenly splintered with a loud crash, and one of the heads of the gigantic anaconda crashed into the room with its jaws gaping open and seized Okakuo, swallowing him with a gulp.
“No!” Temi cried with horror, and at the same time one of the reptile’s heads popped through the window with a huge crash and fell on a screaming Daniel Godwin, and gobbled him up!
“Oh, dearest Creator!” Suncity screamed with horror. “Prince Temidayo get under the tables, please, quick!”
“I do not flee evil!” Temi screamed with passionate wrath. “That beast from the crypt took my brothers!”
Suncity and Prosper screamed with terrified horror when Temi suddenly raced to the shattered door and stood outside waving his arms wildly.
“Hey, you damn evil! Come get me!” Temi shouted.
Leke Olugbade Bally, watching the destruction on the wall of his room whilst still hanging in the air and the dark souls whirled around him, saw the cloudy shadow coming out of the room.
“Yesssssss!” he whispered fiercely. “Get hiiiiiiiim, my horror slave…get hiiiiiiiim!”
Prosper and Suncity rushed through the door and saw the anaconda rearing up above Temidayo and its middle head coming down in a swoosh, its mouth wide open and its fangs dripping with slippery bile that it shot on the prince, and then it picked up Temidayo and swallowed him whole!
“Noooooo!” Prosper screamed and dropped to his knees with uncontrollable tears on his face.
But Temidayo had noticed something no one had paid attention to…
Okakuo had cut off the serpent’s tongue, and it had remained cut!
It only meant one thing…
The beast was impenetrable on the outside, but inside, it was vulnerable!
As Temi travelled through the belly of the beast he could breathe! It was hot and humid and very frightening, and he felt the life ebbing out of him fast! His breathing was blocked, and he knew he had only seconds before death took him, and it also meant Danny and Okakuo had even less time to live!
“Swords of Destiny!” Prince Temidayo screamed in his mind, hoping it would work. “To me!”
Suncity, Prosper and the terrified warriors of Suncity watched as two glowing short swords flew through the shattered doorway behind Prosper, and sailed through the air toward the anaconda’s middle head and then forcibly crashed through the mouth of the beast!
Temidayo’s heart was bursting when he felt the hilts of the swords in his hands!
“Kata!” he whispered in his head.
With great concentration, Temidayo spun in the body of the anaconda, and the swords began to cut and mangle up the insides of the gigantic beast!

It let out a series of frantic hisses and raised its heads in agony, and then the people watching suddenly saw the side of its body shattering open and Temidayo emerging out in an explosive blast of blood and internal flesh!
Temi swung gratefully round in the mid-air and planted the swords in the gaping hole on the side of the anaconda, and then with a loud scream, he ripped downward, opening up a long, straight cut as if he was opening a zipper on the side of the beast!
They all saw that the edges of the swords were now shimmering with blue fire, and as the rip continued downward the fire burned its way down and through the body of the beast!
The anaconda thrashed wildly in agony, rearing its three heads down toward the prince, but it was already too late!
It crashed to the side, breaking down trees and buildings, writhing in great agony! Temidayo’s down split had opened up the bulges on the anaconda’s body, and Daniel Godwin was the first to pop out, followed soon afterward by Okakuo!
“Quick, open up the bulges!” Suncity screamed shrilly.
He and Prosper raced toward the gigantic beast which was thrashing wildly in its death throes as the fire spread over its body.
The warriors sliced through the gaping wound in its side, bringing out more people that the demon had swallowed.
The fire was spreading widely, burning up the anaconda.
Emmanuel Suncity paused suddenly and looked at the fire licking toward the heads of the beast.
“Shit on me!” he whispered suddenly. “The eyes, the eyes…for the mimic! Hey, Prosper, come with me! Get the eyes…the eyes!”
“The Mimic Artefact!” Prosper got on immediately!
The two of them raced toward the heads of the anaconda.
“Prince Temidayo!” Suncity yelled. “The beast is burning up! We need its eyes!”
Temi, kneeling on the ground after cleaning the mucous from Daniel and Okakuo’s noses and face, struggled to his feet and raced wildly after Prosper and Suncity. Already the middle head of the anaconda was in wild flames, and the fire was spreading to the other heads!
“No, no, no!” Suncity screamed as he jumped over a fallen tree. “Too far away!”
Temi saw that indeed they were still far away, and the two other heads might get consumed with fire.
He held the Swords of Destiny and suddenly jumped high into the air with a wild scream. The edges of the sword were burning furiously as he came down on one of the heads and slashed down hard on the edge of the fire consuming toward the head!
The head sliced off and rolled lethargically into the shallow edge of the lake near the burning anaconda. Its other head was now burning, but the head Temi had severed was lying safely in the lake with two red eyes now filled with hatred, but still quite dead.
Temi sank to the ground in sheer exhaustion and fell on his side still covered with blood, gore and mucous from the demonic beast. Emmanuel Suncity was smiling broadly as he bore down on the beast and took out a small knife to gore out its two eyes.
Prosper loomed over him, his face filled with concern.
“My Lord, my Lord, are you alright?” he asked as he took off his top and cleaned Temi’s face frantically.
“I’m okay,” Temi said weakly. “Please, check on Danny and Okakuo. See if they survived!”
Prosper looked up toward the settlement and saw a wobbly Daniel Godwin and Okakuo shuffling toward them like zombies.

“They’re fine, my Lord,” Prosper said with a groan of wonder and sheer awe as he looked down at Temi. “You saved them. Indeed, you’re the Chosen One!”
Temi smiled weakly and closed his eyes.
He fell asleep almost instantly on the soft moss amongst all the chaos, still covered with blood and gore and mucous from a demonic reptile.
Suncity walked up to them, his hands bloodied from gouging out the eyes of the anaconda, and he stood looking down at the handsome face with awe on his face.
“Remarkable,” he said softly. “He sleeps in the midst of the horrible. Dayo is in good hands, Prosper.”
“I know,” Prosper said fondly as he sat down and leaned his back on a tree stump. “I know.”

Leke Olugbade Bally was still hanging in the air looking at the blank wall.
That spectral thing killed the unkillable?
For the very first time in a long while, there was sudden unease and a hint of fear in the white, glazed eyes of the evil man, and his long horrible fingers kept rolling and rolling and rolling.
He knew that thing, whatever it was, was very great trouble for him and his ambitions!
It was time to put in some plans fast now that he knew something was coming his way!
